Entry Procedure

All children seeking entry into King Edward’s School will need to sit an Entrance Examination for Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 (please see separate section for entry into Year 12). Please check on availability of places for Years 8-10, as they may be limited. In all cases, please complete the relevant Registration Form and return it to the School with a Registration Fee of £100 (Year 6 King Edward’s Junior School pupils do not have to pay this fee, as this was already paid on entry into the Junior School). Once the Registration Form is received, we will contact the child’s current school to obtain a reference. It would be advisable for parents to inform their child’s current school that they are making an application to King Edward’s School.

ENTRY TO THE SENIOR SCHOOL – YEARS 7, 8, 9 AND 10 Entrance Examination – Saturday 22 January 2022

If you are new to the School and wish to register your child for the Examination, please complete and return the Registration Form, together with the Registration Fee, by Monday 29 November 2021, as this helps us considerably with the administration connected with the Entrance Examination and interviews. You will then be sent further details. Please note that those applying for Year 7 from King Edward’s Junior School will have to complete and return the Registration Form for their child by Friday 29 October 2021. We will then send further information, including the interview appointment for their child(ren) which will be held before the end of the Autumn Term. Prior to the Entrance Examination, interviews for external Year 7 places will take place in January 2022. By mutual agreement with the other Bath independent schools, parents will be asked to accept a subsequent offer of a place by 7 March 2022, although earlier responses are appreciated. Pupils in Years 8-10 will be called for two interviews (one will be in a modern language, taken from French, German or Spanish) within two weeks of taking the examination. ENTRY INTO YEAR 12 Interview Day – Saturday 13 November 2021 Places for entry into Year 12 will be offered on the basis of a satisfactory report from the pupil’s present school and a series of short interviews with the Headmaster or one of the Deputy Heads, the Head of Sixth Form or a Senior Sixth Form Tutor, and two subject interviews with Heads of Departments. Applicants are also required to reach a minimum target for entry, consisting of: • GCSE grade 4 or IGCSE grade 4 or C or above in English Language and Mathematics (grades 6 or B or above are preferable) • a minimum points score of 54 (taken from the 9 best subjects including English Language and

Mathematics) with points taken at face value for numerical grades or for alphabetical grades as follows: 8 points for an A*, 7 for an A, 6 for a B, and 5 for a C. Short courses and grades below 4 or C are not counted for the purposes of entry scores. It is recommended that pupils also gain GCSE grade 7 or IGCSE grade 7 or A or above in the subjects chosen for A Level or in allied subjects for A Levels that were not studied at GCSE (eg Physics for Electronics.) The main Interview Day will be on the morning of Saturday 13 November 2021 and the closing date for registrations to be considered for this day is Friday 29 October 2021. A further and smaller allocation of places may be offered, if places are still available, on a similar basis in the Spring of 2022. Year 11 KES pupils are not required to complete the Sixth Form Registration Form or attend for interview but must still meet the same examination entry requirements.
