The Maintenance Plan by: Pastor Joyce Rockwell-Bennett

The first topic of discussion is to provide you with the definition of maintenance. The definition of maintenance is the process of maintaining or preserving someone or something, or the state of being maintained.

The purpose of this is to remind each reader how special we are; each person has a purpose and place in this world.

We each are to be celebrated, recognized, and rejuvenated. The cares of this world will melt the core of your inner man without those basic needs from the people around you. Remember you are loved, unique and special; if no one else ever tells you this just remember that “I” just did.

If you go into the store to purchase a cell phone you will have several choices of phones to choose from, your choices are the latest to the greatest and the lowest and slowest.

If you go into the dealership to purchase a car there are several choices to choose from… again the latest to the greatest. When a product is purchased by you the consumer, the norm is to be provided with a basic warranty plan.

Warranty plans usually promise coverage such as repair or replacement, which usually covers days, weeks, months, or years for the purchased product.

There are some conditions with your warranty plan, which is called maintenance. The retailer usually explains there must be maintenance practices in place by the consumer for your warranty to be honored.

The consumer must adhere to the guideline covered in the maintenance description. If repair is not a choice for your product, usually there is an option for replacement.

Now there is a maintenance of a relationship between two or more people.

Every relationship must be maintenanced, in the hope to produce longevity. When a relationship is established, it is essential that a maintenance plan in place.

The first relationship you have in the natural will be with your biological mother. When you are in your mother’s womb there will some nurturing, frustrations, cravings, eating, happiness, sadness, hopefulness, morning sickness, weight gain, fluid retention, hair loss, hair growth, massaging of the stomach etc. Your mother hopefully will attend regularly scheduled doctor’s appointments and take a prescribed vitamin regimen. She will need to care for herself and the baby (which is YOU) that she carries in her womb. If she follows all the basic guidelines you will feel the love from where you are.

The most essential relationship you will ever have is with the creator.

This relationship is the lasting one, it is the “BEST” one. I am singing…

because he first loved me.” The FATHER loves you so much that: John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believes in him shall not perish, but have an everlasting life.” What an amazing maintenance plan in place for the body of Christ! We all have access to the warranty plan. There is no discrimination in this plan, everyone qualifies for this benefit.

The word of God speaks so many promises to the believer. The word of God gives us an assurance that he has a mapped plan for each of us to follow. The word explains that in Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” This mapped plan gives YOU a purpose.

The word is rich with the maintenance plan, the word also confirms in Jeremiah 33:3 “Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not.” The Maintenance Plan also confirms in Matthew 6:33 “but seek ye first the kingdom of God and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

I need to mention the component of “The Maintenance Plan” we need to maintain our natural health. Take care of your health, mental, spiritual, and emotional.

Also, in the maintenance plan, there must be some “FAITH” the word of God confirms in Hebrews 11:1 “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.” It is imperative that the believer have some “FAITH.” The maintenance plan is void if you do not have any “FAITH.” After you have achieved any level of “FAITH” The reason I stated ANY level of faith is the word of God declares in Romans 12:3 “God has dealt with every man a measure of “FAITH.” pray. I Thessalonians 5:16-17, 16: Rejoice evermore 17: Pray without ceasing” your prayer life is detrimental to survival.

Wake up praying and lay down praying. The word is especially important to your purpose. Psalms 119:11 “Thy word have I hidden in my heart, that I might not sin against thee.” The believer must know the word of God, it's jointed to your purpose.

There is another portion of a relationship that we fail to mention, there is an important fact that we as believers must take the time to minister to each other. The Apostle Paul confirmed in the book of Philemon that we must encourage each other, Paul is writing to Philemon and providing him with an assurance that he prays for him.

We must pray for each other and make mention of one another in our prayers. When someone requests prayer, remember to do just that pray for them. Philemon 1:3-4 “3. Grace to you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. 4. I thank my God, making mention of thee always in my prayers. This is one of the shortest letters of the Apostle Paul, which he encourages Philemon to forgive Onesimus.

The believer must learn to be peacemakers and learn to forgive one another. Unforgiveness is a hindrance to your joy, peace, and growth.

Forgiveness is a major component of “The Maintenance Plan."

The minute we lowered my sister Janine into the ground for burial, I didn’t feel right.

It wasn’t grief or bereavement; it was just different. I didn't feel like myself. Later that evening, after being consoled by family and friends at her home, I became fatigued and had to lie down. I thought I was just tired from doing so much over the past few months from my sister's hospitalization—the going through her transition to be with the Lord, then making preparations for the actual funeral.

I thought I was just tired from being in constant communication with family and friends as they called, texted, visited, provided food, flowers, prayers, encouragement & consolation during our time of bereavement.

I wore a mask anytime I left home but never in the house (although many were visiting to console our family & to express their love for Janine). I took the necessary precautions, so I knew it couldn’t be the dreaded disease & infection that has taken over 2020 known as Coronavirus.

But now my sister was gone, dead & buried. The adrenaline that kept me pumped & going was gone…..& I’m running on fumes. With all assignments completed and no more tasks to scratch off my “Things to do list”, I was tired, grieving & couldn’t go another step

I went to bed early that evening (July 15th) on the day of the burial. I was in bed by 8:00 pm.

That’s odd for me because I’m a night owl, usually never seeing my bed before midnight.

When I awoke the next morning, I knew it was MORE than just being tired; I knew INSTANTLY what I felt was more than grief. I had all the signs & symptoms of a sinus infection.

Congestion, little to no taste; still fatigued after waking from ten hours of sleep. But no fever, no coughing, none of the signs experts were stating regarding Coronavirus.

Therefore, I was going to try and CURE myself with over-the-counter medicine UNTIL…..I coughed up yellow phlegm. The phlegm signaled that I was beyond over the counter medicine; it was a full-blown sinus infection (so I thought).

Since I was still in my hometown following the funeral arrangements & service, I decided to go to a local urgent care clinic for treatment. The nurse practitioner diagnosed me with an acute sinus infection; I was prescribed antibiotics, hydration & rest. But the medicine wasn’t working & clearing up things as expected. As time progressed, after much-needed rest & antibiotics, my symptoms grew worse instead of better! I began coughing more & more; then my spit, phlegm, everything turned RED! Wait!.....is this BLOOD! Am I coughing up BLOOD! I instantly knew “this” was MORE than a sinus infection.

I am a woman of faith (although Coronavirus was in the back of my mind)…….my faith instantly kicked in!!! I began to quote scripture! I began to pray & call on the name of the Lord!

As a Pastor, I relied on my faith!!! I started speaking, “Whatever THIS is Lord, I shall LIVE & NOT DIE”! But in the back of my mind…..is it?

NO! Don’t even THINK IT! Don’t think it, don’t suspect it or question it……don’t even speak it into the atmosphere…..NOOOOOO, YOU DO NOT HAVE CORONAVIRUS! I was diagnosed with Coronavirus—a 49 year old medical professional who didn't contract the disease at work. A Pastor & woman of FAITH who didn't acquire the infection at church…..tested positive for Coronavirus/COVID-19! And it was BRUTAL for me!!! Fever for six days to the point of delirium.

Fever for six days that ice couldn't relieve, cold baths couldn't relieve; Tylenol gave me relief for maybe one to two hours & then it would rear its ugly head again!

While hospitalized, I was pumped around-theclock with doses of antibiotics, steroids, vitamins & fluids while taking breathing treatments. I was discharged two days later (after showing signs of improvement & I believe, to make room for an increase of sicker patients). I lasted two days at home and was hospitalized again! I was now one of those "sicker" patients who needed another room. When admitted to the hospital, I was immediately placed on oxygen around the clock, pumped with antibiotics, steroids, vitamins & fluids. You better believe I called on God like never before!

With outstretched hands (see picture), as alarms & lights are sounding in my room!!! With hands Zarn often reaching toward the sky for Ballentine God in Editor in Chiefme!!! prayer!!! I asked God to take me or restore I wasn't giving up; on the contrary, I begged God for my life!!!

I pleaded with God to help me & to heal me!!! I reminded God that I could not do any work for Him from the grave. But it was His choice; all I wanted was some RELIEF! I didn't believe I would lose my life (although all signs pointed that way)…..but I did beg Him for it!

While at the hospital alone, with no family or friends allowed visitation due to the pandemic, you have a chance to think. I thought about my Mother having to lose another child within weeks of each other. I thought about my congregation, the people God had entrusted to me. I thought about family, friends, and the unsaved…..had I done enough? Had I accomplished all that God sent me to do? Being significantly short of breath with low oxygen levels makes you appreciate life & each breath. But the peace of God in the hospital room each night was unexplainable! I can remember THE NIGHT I knew God healed me; I knew I would survive…..I knew my life would be changed FOREVER (for the better!)

The road back to restored health wasn't easy: Once discharged, I couldn't cook for myself, it was challenging to shower/bathe, challenging to put on clothes, move ……difficult to BREATHE! All I wanted to do was SLEEP. But the recommendations said MOVE, walk, sit up, do things to increase your lung capacity….. don't sleep for lengthy periods!!! Don't allow pneumonia & other problems to set in!

During my month-long battle with Coronavirus, I didn't realize how much we use AIR for everything Wake up & breathe, walk & breathe, brush teeth & breathe, bathe & breathe, talk & breathe…..eat & breathe. I KNOW NOW how precious every breath is! It gives new meaning to "Let everything that hath breath praise the Lord!"A healthy, young (yes, I'm still young at 49 year old) & vivacious chick……had to use portable oxygen to survive temporarily!!! I like God's air, not human-made, manufactured air! I like breathing to be automatic, not through machines. I lost weight (the ONLY plus to having Coronavirus ). I was off work and away from the pulpit for well over a month!

I used to think the "Big C" was cancer from various family and friends diagnosed with it. Then 2020 changed my concept of the "Big C" to coronavirus.

But through it all, through the ups & downs of life's experiences, I now KNOW for sure…..that the "Big C" is CHRIST! He HEALED me! He RESTORED me! He made a way FOR ME! He is the ONLY ONE that has brought me this far & He will bring you through EVERYTHING your life has in store as well. I am a testament to what God can do!

To some, "C" may be chaos & confusion with all that's going on in the world today!!! Or the "C" may stand for courage; for what medical professionals & all those on the front lines of this pandemic have exemplified & shown us this year. But I hope you come to know (as I did), that the Big C is CHRIST! Here's another C…COMFORTER! Christ calmed & comforted me in the hospital & He is still with me today. Here's another C…..COUNSELOR! He's there any time of the day or night to listen, console, to guide & advise. Here's another C…..CALL on Him!!! Call on Him when you're in trouble!!! Call on Him if you feel like giving up! Call on Him if it seems like life is tossing you to and fro. Don't take that breath for granted; use it to call on God like never before!

Even when you're NOT sick or fear you're at the end of life; CALL ON HIM! Use your mouth, heart & each breath to PRAISE the Lord! Enjoy life, spend time with family & friends, build genuine & sincere relationships….& keep "The Big C" at the forefront of your life; His Name is Jesus Christ!

CAN YOU TRUST HIS DRIVING? As I can recall, the organizational announcement was slightly sounding different than the draft I had submitted about myself. If my memory serves me correctly, the announcement had my picture inserted along with these words: ‘We are pleased to welcome Kendra Rockwell to the position of Senior Training Coordinator – Medicare Part D at our Richardson, Texas site. Kendra joined the company as a Clinical Services Technician I contingent worker in May of 2014 and since has built an extensive knowledge of the Prior Authorization process. Additionally, she’s participated in various projects such as quality control, subject matter expert (SME) of new hire training classes for pharmacists and technicians, and continued to provide job knowledge for various Prior Authorization processes to her colleagues as an Interim Supervisor during our company-wide Welcome Season.

Kendra became involved with Pharmacy and Healthcare at an early age, which has ascended to a variety of job opportunities through health sciences, legal, and business departments of universities, hospitals, and clinical trials laboratories. She received a bachelor’s degree with a focus in Humanities and has a background in Chemistry. She also has a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree with a concentration in Health Care Administration.

In her spare time, she loves providing a confidencebuilding experience to each young person she meets through the non-profit organizations she volunteers for.

She also volunteers for various youth groups in the Ark-La-Tex region to serve as a mentor and teaches modeling, acting, and dance to young women in her leisure.

As I sat at my computer reading the email over and over again, I just began to fill with excitement, and then suddenly questions began to run quickly across my mind.

What do I need to do now to prepare for this new position? Who will be in my first training? How can I be the best corporate facilitator that I can be? Am I comfortable enough with ALL lines of business to train?

Wait…what about when I must train pharmacists?

‘I will be just fine’, I thought to myself. I have helped pharmacists before with learning their jobs. But this time it was different, I would be the lead facilitator instead of just a subject matter expert.

At that moment I thought back to the training classes and the moments serving as an Interim Supervisor while training the pharmacists…I tried to encourage myself and stay positive by thinking to myself again, ‘I should be fine’, the pharmacists here have always said I made learning easy. In fact, they have mentioned several times that they perceived that I was a pharmacist because of how I trained individuals on pharmacy processes.

Right at that moment; at that thought, I laughed out loud because I remembered my expression when I worked in retail pharmacy that customers and new hires both would always think that I was the head manager. My reply to their presumption would always be to sigh, then take a deep breath, and say, “well that is one of my goals, to keep growing and moving up, but I haven’t made it there just yet.”

Now as I sat at my computer re-reading that emailed announcement again, I began to ponder on what if this were the announcement introducing me as the new pharmacist within the company or the new pharmacy manager or even the director? We have new executive leaders that are announced all the time, I thought on that day my announcement came out, March 3, 2016, I made up in my mind that I was not going to settle for just any career or just becoming a Senior Training Coordinator since that was a big promotional leap within the company. I have to continue to put my career in God’s hands and just trust God because I know He has shaped my career to fit what I couldn’t even have imagined it to be!

As I cannot help but to keep Jeremiah 29:11 before me as my motivation on the daily ever since I was a teenager, “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Even since my Career Investigations classes in middle school and high school, I had always chosen pharmacy as my first career choice. I even received a pharmacy scholarship as a high school senior but turned it down when my parents felt it was just too far away on my own at such a young age.

In my undergraduate years, I was the only student working under a grant-sponsored research program to select pharmacy as my special area of summer research and I later received an invitation to apply for the pharmacy school program on our campus and was awarded a pharmacy school scholarship in 2005 but Hurricane Katrina damaged the city and flooded it with so much violence at that time that my family felt it was not safe for me to return there alone and deep down I knew it was not safe either.

While I was back home after Hurricane Katrina, I was emotionally up and down. Words truly cannot express how I felt then. I felt like that natural disaster completely ruined everything and my educational goals, but I remember visiting my grandmother’s church one Sunday while back at home and the pastor called me out of the audience and asked me to come to the alter. Of course, I was nervous, but I walked toward the altar and the pastor began to smile and said, “I see you. I see you in a pharmacy.

Being over people, managing them…a pharmacy and pharmacists.” It was unclear to me at that point. Maybe because I was nervous or maybe because, at that point, I was not even attending any college or university at that time. I had almost been out of school for an entire year now. I just remembered nodding my head in agreement with the pastor and he prayed for me at the alter that day in 2005.

Now that I am older, wiser, learned life’s lessons from my experiences, I also learned along the way the importance of allowing God to take control of my destiny (not leaning on my understanding – Proverbs 3:5,6).

Fast-forwarding to 2019-2020, I received a career opportunity that only God could have ordained; I am currently a college Pharmacy Program Director. But even though I am currently a director, I can never forget the key skills I learned before now.

Personal growth and development are reflected in what I have done and what I am focused on accomplishing next, which is ‘whatever God has planned for me’. I am constantly advancing myself by taking the time and dedication to continue to learn even though it is not a direct requirement. My actions of performing pharmacy research, being a pharmacy clerk, becoming a pharmacy technician, transitioning from retail pharmacy to pharmacy benefits management at a corporation, and now becoming a pharmacy program director overseeing technicians and pharmacists all form just a small fraction of what God has written just for me.

It is a combination of these experiences along with what I am required to do as my purpose and destiny is fulfilled (before we were even born, He gave us our destiny – Ephesians 1:11).

When you let go and let God; just let Him take the wheel and drive… watch what happens. That’s what I had to do.

I still have a pulse that beats with the thought and mindset of pharmacy. This is what I must do! Not just for me but for the individuals I serve and have served over the years in being a health care professional.

BY NANCY HUMPHREY LOTT I think that one of the greatest falsehoods ever propagated by proponents of racial desegregation, assimilation, and unification is, the idea of not seeing color when we see people.

We, the body of Christ, have helped, to perpetuate the “I do not see color” farce. Yes, we have played a major role in this satire. Oh, you know it. Perhaps you have even uttered the phrase yourself a time or two.

Well, I must admit that hard as I might, I have not achieved this select status yet, and am beginning to wonder if it is indeed attainable, or obtainable for that matter.

First, let me just step out in deep water and say for the record that I DO SEE COLOR. Whew!

That felt good! I decided to reveal that statement of truth for myself and for those “who don’t see color as well as for those who do see color but say they don’t.” Whoa, hold your horses. Before you put this article down in selfrighteous derision and disgust, allow me to expound upon my predicament if you will.

This is my dilemma. Simply stated, I am mystified by the concept of color-less people.

I admit this can be attributed to the fact that when I look at people, I happen to see color. I find it inconceivable and downright impossible to do otherwise when looking at people. When the Master created us, He created us in color. My perplexity produces many questions such as, Is, not seeing color when we see people, really a Godly perspective? Did God see color when He created us? Is God colorblind? However, out of my quandary of questions, comes answers, such as God created a colorful universe with colorful inhabitants. We cannot look at all of God’s creation and see color, and not see color when we look at His most preeminent creation, man!

The sin is not in seeing people in color, the sin lies in how we act and react to people based on the color we see!

To my knowledge, as finite as it may be, ecologists are not in the throes of a major campaign geared toward persuading people that we live in a colorless ecological environment.

When was the last time you heard someone say, I don’t see color when I look at trees or I don’t see color when I look at flowers? Vegetation is recognized by its color and treated, NOT MISTREATED, according to its specific needs. Yes, When I see animals, I see color. If I did not see color when I look at animals, I could walk up to skunks rubbing and petting them by mistake. You get my drift….

Yes, I see color. Heck, I even know the available colors of my favorite models of vehicles. When I see houses, the same thing! By the way, anything farmhouse is my current favorite.

Often, I choose my clothing based on color. I love all shades of black, white, and navy blue because they work so well together. Besides, you can pair those colors up with just about anything. I pick my shoes by style and color. Most people do, right? In this day, where hair colors range from blonde to blue and from gray to green, I still see color.

However, I must admit that not seeing color in some instances might not be such a bad idea. Lol! When I see brochures, newsletters, flyers, any form of print media I see color. Often, I am enticed to read a pamphlet or post solely because of its attractive spectrum of colors.

In a world of such gloriously vibrant colors, to say that we do not see color in people is a travesty in terms, a parody that even Shakespeare, in all, of his writings did not match. It is an ironic euphemism that is improbable, irrational, and illogical.

This thing goes far beyond reasoning. It's incredulous! To see or not to see, that is the question. To attempt to see people in color-less hues is comparable to trying to find the fountain of youth or the gold at the end of the rainbow. It is like endeavoring to know the day and the hour of Christ’s return (irrespective of the fact that Christ himself said no individual has this knowledge). Talk about attempting the impossible.

An awesome question was posed and a revelatory statement declared by the Psalmist in the 8th Psalm, lines 3- 9, as he paused to consider all of the Creator’s vast creation, the heavens, moon, stars, and such that he wondered, 4 What is a man that You are mindful of him, And the son of [earthborn] man that You care for him? 5 Yet You have made him a little lower than God, and You have crowned him with glory and honor. My God, My God!!! What is man? Man is the most wonderful creation of God, made a little lower than the gods or angels (depending on the version).

Man has been given dominion over all of God’s other creations. To the psalmist, I say, Man is created in the image and likeness of an omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent God. Man is the product of a loving, gracious, merciful Father who was mindful of His creation. Man is made by the same God who gave Noah a hue- filled rainbow as the sign of a promise. And though we have been created in a variety of hues, we are the people of the promise.

As we honor God and glorify Him as Creator we must see His Creation in the way in which He created it, recognizing our diversities, and allowing these dissimilarities to enhance, not inhibit our daily walk in Christ and with each other.

In conclusion, in this world filled with color, I, a woman of color still see color when I see people. I like David, a man of color, say to the master Creator: 14 I will give thanks and praise to You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Wonderful are Your works, And my soul knows it very well. 15 My frame was not hidden from You, When I was being formed in secret, and intricately and skillfully formed [as if embroidered with many colors] in the depths of the earth.

16 Your eyes have seen my unformed substance; And in Your book were all written the days that were appointed for me, when as yet there was not one of them [even taking shape]. 17 How precious also are Your thoughts to me, O God! How vast is the sum of them! Psalm 139: 14- 17, AMP I originally penned these thoughts on July 21, 1998, and I have held them and meditated on them and tweaked them to release them for such a time as this. PRAYER IS BETTER THAN SLEEP

The purpose of this article is to compare and contrast the benefits of sleep with the benefits of prayer. You will notice that there are striking similarities between the benefits of prayer and the benefits of sleep. Sleep is a precious gift from the Lord that brings rest to our weary flesh and refreshment to the depths of our very soul. Sleep is restorative: during times of sleep the body repairs itself, the immune system is strengthened and our brains and memory performance improves.

Sleep is necessary for individuals to successfully adapt to the challenges of everyday life. Specifically, reaching the REM stage of sleep. This is the stage when most of the dreaming takes place and causes a person to feel rested. Dreaming also assists with helping individuals to solve problems. A lot of research has been done on these phenomena, but it is not entirely clear how this works. Entering into the REM stage of sleep takes time and it needs to be a consistent occurrence.

Consider this, if an individual were to go night after night and never reach the REM stage of sleep, he/she would not feel rested. He/She would experience agitation, heightened stress, and a sense of becoming overwhelmed by the issues of life that most people have to navigate; finding the act of getting through a normal day a real struggle.

Studies reveal that fatigue presents with similar symptoms to those of an intoxicated person. When an individual lacks sleep and fails to enter into the REM stage for long periods, there is a risk of triggering psychotic episodes and other mental stressors. Suffice it to say, sleep is important. But, not just any sleep.

Quality restful sleep is necessary for optimal health and improves the quality of one’s life to be more productive and well-balanced. If one were to go day after day without getting into the presence of God he/she may become agitated, disillusioned, and find it difficult to navigate daily life. His/Her faith may become frail and unsteady. If a person does not take advantage of the privilege of confessing his/her sins and receiving forgiveness through Christ, the burden of sin may lead to both physical, mental, and spiritual consequences.

Think about it, sleep is a state of consciousness that can be likened to the state or the place of prayer in the spiritual realm. If one spends quality time lingering in the presence of God, taking the time to rest and find refreshment in the presence of God one will experience a sense of detachment from the natural world; which I would suggest is the act of rising above the realm of the natural or that which is referred to as the flesh. Now, one can enter into the realm of the spirit which enables individuals to more effectively connect with the Lord.

Hence, enabling one to receive revelation, instruction, strategies, direction, peace, joy, and rest! It is restorative, it is redemptive and it is medicinal. The prayer of faith can bring healing and deliverance to one’s body and to one’s sin-sick soul. Prayer can empower one to adapt to the challenges of life. The act of prayer when offered in earnest sincerity of faith can enable an encounter with Jesus in the realm of the spirit. Now, we can comprehend spiritual instruction, direction, and guidance. Now, we can receive strength to deal with the day, and the courage to seek resolution to our problems. Now, we can be sustained and empowered to resist the devil.

Prayer is BETTER than sleep! You and I can consciously bring every issue that concerns us before the throne of grace into the very presence of God and obtain His mercy. We will receive healing and strength. We will experience peace, hope, and joy in the presence of our God. Now, close your eyes, you are in the presence of God. It’s safe here, you can visualize each situation and talk to the Lord about everything.

Imagine yourself safe and secure in the arms of Jesus.. Rest in His strong embrace.

Now, take a deep breath….Breathe in and breathe out. Breathe in…and breathe out.

Now, you may rest in the presence of your God.

Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The books give us a picture of Jesus and how he was born, how He lived and died. Even Though these books tell a similar story they all have their own perspective like students who graduated the same class and came back years later to tell the story of their teacher.

The stories are about the same guy but told differently because of the type of relationship each student had with the teacher. The following are these Gospels and the authors that wrote them: MATTHEW This book was written by a guy named Matthew who was also called Levi and was a first-hand witness of all of Jesus’ public teachings.

MARK This book was written by Mark also known by the surname John and was cousin to Barnabas who was an early companion to Paul in his missionary trips. Mark was not a first-hand witness to Jesus and his teachings but actually wrote his account from the knowledge of Peter.

LUKE This book was written by the doctor Luke who collected first-hand witness accounts from those who witnessed all the events that happened in and around Jesus’ life.

JOHN This book was written by John who wrote more independently on his experience with the Lord. His perspective focuses more on who Jesus is instead of how He lived.

WOMAN OF GOD My Grandmother, strong, wise, faithful, and intimidating. As the first missionary of Taylor Memorial Church of God in Christ, Mrs. Eula Mae Thompson left one or all those impressions on you. Growing up in my grandmother's house was a real blessing. We didn't have much, it was me, my twin Timothy and my older brother and sister Tyrone and Sheniqua.

When we came to start living with my granny it was too far back that I can’t remember, but I do remember sleeping on mattresses that were on the floor with me and all my siblings on it. I remember my granny used to cook those homemade biscuits from scratch for dinner. We ate what was cooked or didn’t eat at all. What helped me seek God was my grandmother's own walk with the Lord. Looking back you cannot explain any of the trials we faced and endured if you don’t put God in them. My grandmother used to pray for us every day before we went to school. She was always trying to make sure we were in a good position to succeed in life whether it was moving us to a new area or putting us in a new school. Of course, my grandmother took care of us but looking back she always had a choice between enjoying her own life without raising kids that was not hers or sacrificing her life to tend to our well-being.

I still wonder if I would be able to do the same thing if I was presented with those options. I remember going into my grandmother’s room, and it has the atmosphere of a sanctuary. My grandmother kept a bottle of extra virgin olive oil in her room and she kept this big bible in which she had marked up with pen marks and highlights. She also stayed on the phone praying with whoever. My grandmother was wise as she was spiritual. I remember when I started hanging out with the wrong crowd and my grandmother confronted me about my newfound marijuana habit she told me “if you ever try anything stronger, you are getting out of my house.” I was thinking she was going to kill me because I knew how serious she took her relationship with God and how serious her desire for me to live saved. I was just so confused, the love my grandmother had was love that was unconditioned. When I think back it made me want to know God even more. I could write a book about how my grandmother invoked the desire to know the Lord on me, But just to witness her and everything she did in my life was something you can’t forget. Sometimes I feel like my grandmother is still looking down on me happy that I realized that she didn’t do all the things she did because of me. She did it because of the Lord Jesus. Now that is a life worth living!

During my childhood years, we moved to a small town in Oklahoma, after three years there I was introduced to tornados! Learned whole new respect for the weather! We lost everything we owned! The most sufficient memory of my childhood is our family and our community came together to help us rebuild. They built our house!

After trying to put things back together and finding it difficult to do in a small town my dad moved us to Tulsa, Oklahoma. We endured many more difficulties in that time and both brothers went off to serve in the military.

Due to the civil unrest in the big city and riots, my dad felt it was time to move to another city. We moved to Catoosa, OK in my high school years where I learned about friendship and belonging. The seventies were tough years, which resulted in me ending up lost and confused. Then 1983, I met my husband, and God had big plans. After we married in 1984 we started a youth ministry and a very long journey of serving the Lord! God has blessed us and provided for us in so many ways throughout the years. What fun we have had serving the Lord in any way God allowed.

Glynnis is blessed with 14 grandchildren and three beautiful daughters that are all serving God in their way and her daughters are blessed with wonderful husbands. Her children are successful in the things that God has called them to.

Many difficulties forced her husband to retire from health issues. She believes now that those difficulties were God's way of taking their ministry outside of traditions. True ministry has no title or needs to be inside four walls. Where ever I am always looking for whom God wants me to reach out to and be a support system too. I love serving people. I love to see the hand of God moving!! God never lets us down or leaves us alone! What a powerful thing to get to teach others through experience and God's word! Your life will never be the same! Leap of faith and God will be there to catch you!

WHAT DOES BLACK AMERICA AND THE 12 DISCIPLES OF JESUS HAVE IN COMMON? BY TITUS BANKS

Jesus came in a time when people were really sick, not only physically but spiritually and mentally. They were sick of the feeling of defeat. Sick of not enjoying the freedom of being able to enjoy their life how they deemed fit as a people. They were always given certain freedom at a price and rather they liked it or not; that price was always unfair. Whom am I talking about you may ask yourself? The Jews or Black America. It is obvious ain't it?

The Jews knew suffering on so many levels and I’m not trying to count them out ( for my well-studied bible scholars Romans 11:19-24) I understand that we are giving grace only because of the hardened hearts of God’s chosen people. So what I’m explaining is that Black America has experienced suffering on many levels also, In this day in age we still have people without education but are very smart. We have people who are a part of zealous interest groups that are fighting for equal opportunity in a country that shows partiality.

You will say then, “Branches were broken off so that I could be grafted in.” 20 Granted. But they were broken off because of unbelief, and you stand by faith. Do not be arrogant, but tremble. 21 For if God did not spare the natural branches, he will not spare you either.

Romans 11:19-24 We have even traitors to the blacks that are in America trying to make progress- yes the dope dealers, the gangbangers, even the sold-out brothers and sisters who become rich but fail to help other blacks rise up out of the ghettos, yes they are traitors helping the same force that oppose the blacks in America progression. What can we do to change what is going on in America, how can we turn the page on this side of history and enter the promise that God gave to Dr. King jr.? The only answer is to pray because only God can solve a problem this big. We need to pray and be on one accord in faith and as Jesus came at a time when people were sick and tired so shall our time of true freedom will come.

Most of us heard about the life of the closest followers of Jesus, the inner circle of our Lord is very diverse, some were just fishermen with no prior education, others were apart of zealous interests groups fighting for the Jewish people freedom, others were seen as traitors to their own people morals and standards; serving a government of the foreigners who ruled over them. All and all the things that these disciples and Black America have in common was the struggle to find their identity in a new way of life and make progress in a world that was against their progression.

When Jesus came; it was a new life that came with Him. You could say it was the same as the emancipation coming for the blacks in America. You had to have a lot of courage to live a new life that was laid out for you so perfectly with an opposing force, constantly present, who would be violently against you walking into this life of heartfelt promises.

BY DEEDRA JOHNSON Joshua 6:20-21 NIV “When the trumpets sounded, the army shouted, and at the sound of the trumpet, when the men gave a loud shout, the wall collapsed; so everyone charged straight in, and they took the city. They devoted the city to the Lord and destroyed with the sword every living thing in it—men and women, young and old, cattle, sheep and donkeys.”

The Israelites had wandered 40 years through the wilderness with Moses. Now, Moses has passed on without seeing the promised land and Joshua is the new leader. They are presented with a new trial as the land that God has promised them is now inhabited by the Canaanites, who practice all manners of evil.

They would have to boldly step in and claim what God had promised them. Has God ever promised you something? Did you begin to take the steps toward claiming that promise only to be faced with opposition? God promises us many things in the Bible. For example, He promises us peace if we keep our thoughts centered on Him. He promises to provide our every need according to His riches in Christ Jesus. God also promises us deliverance and protection. Sometimes you believe and grab hold to God’s promises, but you don’t know the journey that is going to take us to the fulfillment of that promise. This is exactly what happened to the Israelites. God promised Abraham that He would give the land to His descendants. Israel is in bondage to the Egyptians for 400 years and is delivered by the hand of God through Moses. Their journey leads them through the Red Sea, through the wilderness for 40 years and around hostile territories, and finally to the promised land only to find it occupied by the Amorites, Gergashites, Jebusites and many other peoples. God instructed the Israelites to fight. You mean to tell me they had to fight for what God had promised them? Yes! We must follow the example of the Isaraelites when we are faced with opposition from Satan because of God’s promises. We must be willing to step out on faith and fight with the weapons God has given us. These weapons are not carnal, but mighty to the pulling down of strongholds. God went before the Israelites and was for them as he does and is for us.

However, we need to be willing to follow God into the battle.

Whatever God has promised You is already yours by faith. Will you follow God and fight as He leads you to the fulfillment of the promise?

Father God, Thank you for this day. Thank you that your promises are Yes and Amen. Your word says that you are not a man that You should lie nor the son of man that You should repent. I bless you for knowing that the victory is already ours in Christ. As we choose to follow you into the battle each day, I take comfort in knowing that You go before me. In the name of Jesus I pray.

MOTHERHOOD

There is something about a mother and her child(ren).

Motherhood is much too complex to try to explain it and cover every compartment, every responsibility, every emotion, every angle of it. Motherhood, for me, is being awake every morning before anyone else raises their head from their bed.

It is walking through the house in the night hours praying and declaring words over my children’s lives. It is having foresight that may grant access into situations that can be covered in prayer and allow time for strategic planning. That can only be done by access to a greater power. It is sacrificing your sleep, your time, your energy, your food, your money, your body, and sometimes even your desires.

There is so much on a mother’s back from the moment of conception. Many mothers get overwhelmed by all things that are thrown their way before anything ever occurs. One thing that a mother should always keep in mind… “take it one day at a time.” Yes, we want everything to be perfect.

We want everything in life to line up in a way that sets our children up for success. We want things to be easy for them, and many of us try our best to be the one who creates that environment. We want our children to be happy

We want them to obtain wealth. We want them to have love. We want them to be treated with respect and dignity. We want people to see them through the lens we see them. To us, our children are angelic, they are pure, they are loving, they are sacred, they are a replica of who we are.

One thing motherhood shows me every day is that whatever I pour into my child(ren) is what they will pour out. I had an experience recently that made my heart smile. I was away on a trip with my husband and my children were with my parents. My father called me, and he told me, “your son gave you a compliment today.” I asked what he said. My father told me, they were at the store and a lady gave my son a compliment on his looks and he turned around and told her “why thank you, thank you very much, you look nice as well.” My father proceeded to tell me that my son looked to him and told him, “my mother taught me; I must be polite.”

This reminded me that my teachable moments are not in vain.

It is important that our children know they are loved. It is important that they receive a healthy balance of nurturing and discipline. The more positivity we pour into them, the better our legacy is represented.

I am motivated by the scripture that says, “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward” (Psalm 127: 3). I take this perspective with my children. They are a gift from God, and I must cherish them, my gracious reward.
