Newry BID - helping you to ‘SHOP, EAT, STAY’ safe in the city this Christmas NEWRY.COM #HandsFaceSpace

Newry - Shop, eat and sleep safe in the City this Christmas 2020 has been a challenging year for business, like no other. We have had three lockdowns, countless changes in ‘rules’ and advice on how to run our businesses, and a completely different way of going about our daily lives. We see glimmers of hope with the vaccine programme starting and the easing of restrictions; but coming into what should be the busiest couple of weeks of the year for retail and hospitality, it is hard to gather momentum. This is however, something we need to do. We have no choice; it is survival mode for many businesses. We in Newry are preparing positively for the last push for Christmas. We are asking people to shop local and shop safe in Newry to help save local jobs. In Newry BID we are working harder than ever to support our members. We are collaborating more with other organisations, we are delivering more support, more training and more advice. We are working with our members to ensure Newry is safer than ever this Christmas.

We have taken to the streets and we are cleaning them from top to bottom. Shop fronts and premises through to the footpaths and kerbing are getting a freshen up. From Canal Street to Patrick Street our teams are out most weekends making Newry streets as clean as they can possibly be. We are working with our retailers and businesses to ensure they have proper supplies of PPE. We have supported hundreds of businesses through grant applications for additional sanitising stations, and screens. Our new Bio Fogging service is proving popular to ensure business premises are as safe as possible. We developed QR codes and a local track and trace solution for our hospitality providers. Social Distancing signage was provided for members so that our

city centre is clearly laid out and easy to get around safely. Newry is a small city, so it is easy to walk around. Newry BID provides free parking at North Street so you can park all day for free and easily walk to wherever you need to get to. We have two fantastic shopping centres, a city centre hotel, vibrant shopping streets and many independent restaurants, cafes and retailers alongside high street names. Newry has an awarding winning mentality and ethos. We won the ‘Rising Star Award’ in the British High Street Awards in 2019; Newry also picked up the ‘City Category’ accolade in 2020 in the Bank of Ireland ‘Begin Together’ Awards and it boasts Purple Flag status. This is where Newry city centre has been recognised as an excellent and safe evening and night-time economy location. This Christmas we are open for business and we are ready to welcome you. We have ‘S’ for Shopping, ‘A’ for Atmosphere, ‘F’ for Fabulous Food and ‘E’ for Enjoyment. Newry BID is working to make sure you feel SAFE and welcome in our city this Christmas.
