T

he Malad Police claimto have busted a gang of fake police officers after arresting two accused in this connection. They used to dupe people by claiming that they were cops. The arrested accused have been identified as Amit Harishankar Jalan (25) and Asif Yunus Ansari (40), who are having more than 16 cases registered against them. The activities of the gang came to light on July 16, when the complainant, Vikram Singh, approached the Malad Police after being duped by the fake cops. According to the police, the accused conducted a fake raid at the complainant's distance education coaching class at Sheesh Plaza in Malad west. The accused introduced themselves as crime branch officers and threatened Singh

that he would be booked for providing fake educational degree certificates. They then demanded Rs 5 lakh from Singh. They got one lakh rupees from Singh's ATM account, and Rs 1.5 lakh wastransferred into their account through net banking. While leaving the class, Singh alleged that the accused had damaged documents which were kept there, while they took away some. The complainant informed the police that the accused had come in a Nissan car which has also been recorded on a CCTV. Post the incident, the victim immediately approached the Malad Police and registered a case against the accused. Both the accused were booked under various sections of IPC including 420 and 386. Further investigation is on.

Yakub Memon continued his study in jail By Asif Rizvi

T

he conviction in 1993 Bombay serial blasts case did not affect Yakub Memon, chartered accountant by profession, from pursuing his further studies. It was his hobby to gain knowledge and pursue education. “Yakub studied literature from 2010 to 2012 and pursued Political Science during 2012 -14. He completed his Literature degree in April 2013. Yakub also passed his MA in Political Science in December 2014 but, I guess, the degree has yet not been conferred on him,” said a family friend of Memon. In an interview that ADC published on Monday, Yakub's wife said, “Yakub wants his daughter to study hard and do an MBA.” Yakub has done his MA in English Literature and Political Science, while being an inmate in Nagpur jail, through Indira Gandhi National Open University

Yakub Memon ID (IGNOU). Memon's plea in Supreme Court on Tuesday divided two Supreme Court judges who today asked the Chief Justice of India to take a call. The 53-year-old chartered accountant is scheduled to be hanged at Nagpur jail on Thursday.

The razed portions of the extensions of the Hotel White House at Mira Road.

A

fter much dilly-dallying the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) finally woke up from its slumber and initiated action against Hotel White House situated in the Sai Baba Nagar area of Mira Road on Tuesday. However, only the extended portions and extensions accompanying the original structure was razed

amidst tight police cover by the anti-encroachment unit led by Chandrakant Borse. “Notices have been issued and after following the due process of law including clearance of legal hurdles, action will be taken against the original structure,” assured Borse. It may be recalled that two local scribes, Shashi Sharma and Santosh Mishra who had gone to cover a police raid at White House bar on 16, July

were brutally attacked by bar-operator-Ganesh Kamath and his cronies. In a shocking turn of events, the editor of a local Hindi newspaper identified as-Raghvendra Dubey alias Pravin (38) was found murdered, a few meters away from the bar next morning. Demanding action against the bar and all such illegally operating institutions, the media fraternity had staged a series of vocif-

erous agitations against the MBMC. As per highly placed sources, the White House bar is owned by slain gangsterO.P. Singh- a former aide of fugitive underworld don Chhota Rajan. Singh was killed inside the Nashik Central jail in September 2002. His wife had leased out the bar to Ganesh Kamath. However both were entangled in a bitter tenancy dispute.
