The ACB is leaving no stone unturned as each search has been video-recorded and was conducted in the presence of two witnesses. The ACB had filed an FIR against Bhujbal, his son Pankaj, nephew Sameer and many state government bureaucrats in the Maharashtra Sadan case, a multi-crore construction scam pertaining to constructing a library at Kalina in Mumbai and a housing project at Kharghar in Navi Mumbai.

He was arrested by the APMC police after two days. A special Thane court ordered him to be hanged till death just after five months. The fourth convicted accused was arrested by the Khanda Colony police. The police say that in several cases the accused and the complainant make some compromises outside that court.

THREE new rare pooch breeds, a French Berger Picard, a small American Shepherd herding dog and a curly-haired Lagotto Roagnolo Romagnolo truffle hunter have been added to the roster of the prestigious American Kennel Club. The new breeds have been added to the list of pure-bred canines maintained by the New York-based club, raising the total recognised breeds to 187. Nearly 200 fuel stations, including nearly 45 pumps belonging to IOC and 80 odd pumps belonging to HPCL and BPCL, supply petrol to Mumbai. While over 18 lakh vehicles ply in Mumbai, Thane and Navi Mumbai region, each petrol pump supplies over 13,000 litres of petrol every day. The pipeline owned by MbPT, connects a refinery of HPCL with tank farms located nearby. The MbPT pipeline is used to transport liquid fuel by all companies which had started leaking a few hours before the mishap. The pipeline in Sewri was used by HPCL for transportation of its fuel and it was during the process the leakage was reported. However, HPCL spokesperson has claimed that the transported fuel be-

longed to a private lubricants company whose office is close to the pipeline. Even now conflicting versions on the cause of explosion are emerging. According to one version, the explosion caused when HPCL was pumping from its refinery in Trombay to Wadala where they have a depot. Whereas according to yet another version, the fire erupted apparently due to a burning cigarette butt thrown in the mangroves, where the fuel had leaked. The work of pumping out the residue oil in the pipeline is still on. Meanwhile due to the fire, a long patch of mangroves in the area has been destroyed.

he Mumbai Police's Property Cell has arrested two youth for duping a Northeastern youth of Rs. 6 lakhs on the pretext of getting him admitted to a college of his choice in Mumbai. The victim, Roshan Singh, is a resident of Assam and he wanted to pursue PGDM studies in a reputed college but could not get admission in a college of his choice. The accused identified as Ashish Kumar Jha (28) and Amit Dubey (29) got his mobile number from a social networking site and messaged him to contact if he wished to get admission into a college. Hence the victim contacted the accused who asked Singh to meet them at a coffee shop in Bandra with Rs. 2 lakhs to book his seat in a reputed college. The accused told Singh that they have good relations with the Trustees and Management of the college and his work would be done in a few days. After taking Singh into confidence over the phone calls exchanged between the Singh and the accused, Singh agreed to pay the first installment. A few days later, the accused asked for second installment amount of Rs. 4 lakhs. amiat Ulama-E-Maharashtra (JUM), an organization that provides legal aid to accused involved in various cases including terror and bomb blasts, has denied giving any legal support to Kalyan youth Areeb Majeed, who joined the outlawed Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Areeb is at present in judicial custody and booked under various sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has already filed a chargesheet in the case recently. Gulzar Ahmed Azmi, Secretary, Legal Cell, JUM said, "The family of Areeb Majeed had met us when he was back to India but did not turn up to seek help from JUM. If they seek our legal assistance we will look into it." However, ISIS recruit's father Ejaz Majeed refused to comment on the matter.

ACB says it would complete probe against Tatkare in 3 months T

he Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Tuesday informed the Bombay High Court that it would complete the investigation against former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Sunil Tatkare for alleged money laundering and land grabbing within three months. The ACB submitted a report before the division bench of Justices N.H. Patil and S.B. Shukre on Tuesday, informing that the probe was still underway, reports PTI. The High Court, in response to a public interest litigation filed by BJP MP Kirit Somaiya, had earlier directed the ACB, city police's Economic Offences Wing and the Raigad collector to conduct

inquiry into the allegations and submit periodical reports. Somaiya had sought a CBI probe alleging money laundering and land grabbing by various companies floated by Tatkare and his relatives, mainly in the neighbouring Raigad district. The investigating agencies had time and again faced the ire of the court for failing to conduct a fair probe against the minister and his family. Somaiya has listed 51 companies formed by Tatkare which have his family members and friends as directors, and alleged that they purchased benami lands in Maharashtra and indulged in money-laundering, causing loss to the public exchequer.

hief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said that a cabinet sub-committee headed by health minister Deepak Sawant would frame rules regarding setting up of an enforcement agency to implement the proposed anti-spitting law. The law envisages social punishment for those spitting in public. Fadnavis was speaking to reporters after the weekly meeting of the cabinet. The committee comprises water supply minister Babanrao Lonikar, FDA minister Girish Bapat and school education minister Vinod Tawde. The committee will submit its report in a month's time and the government may introduce the bill in the monsoon session of the state legislature. Provide homes for displaced families T

HE Metro lines across the city can in no small extent solve the growing transport problem. Every possible effort needs to be made to provide increasing Metro transport for the citizens. Mumbai is a crowded city and with people utilising every inch of available space. With such a scenario existing in the city, it becomes difficult to construct Metro lines. Several buildings have to be pulled down to build the line. They want to do this in Shivaji Park, Dadar, Girgaum and Colaba. If they go ahead and do it, hundreds of families will be homeless. Notices have already been sent to several families to vacate. Naturally, the residents do not want to quit because they have nowhere to go. They offer residence and the authorities have to use force to make them leave. The problems of the residents have to be recognised. One fine morning they are asked to quit and they have no go but to obey the order. Is it right the authorities should throw them in the streets and expose them to rains? It may cost them a fortune to provide the hapless people alternate accommodation, but they have got to do it. It is a fact that Metro lines are highly useful and attract prior attention, but even so, if they lead to suffering of hundreds of families, there should be rethinking on the transport project. The Metro folks have a right to lay lines through buildings only if they provide adequate housing for the displaced families.

LTHOUGH the Modi government has finally come out with an official defence of Sushma Swaraj for her role in the raging Lalit Modi controversy, BJP circles are wondering whether the matter will rest here. Internal fault lines seem to have only deepened in the 72 hours since the story first broke about Sushma’s hand in facilitating UK travel documents to the former IPL czar who is wanted for questioning by the ED serious financial fraud. It is baffling indeed that it has taken the government so long to defend Sushma. Till the joint press conference addressed by Rajnath and Arun Jaitley, it was left to BJP president Amit Shah and party spokespersons to do the talking. There was not a single official word from any of the ministries involved in the matter (External Affairs and Finance) or the PMO. The government’s reticence was odd because Sushma acted in her official capacity as foreign minister, not as a BJP leader, to help Lalit Modi gain the desired freedom to travel and party. She certainly could not have assured the British High Commissioner in India as merely a BJP spokesperson that India-UK ties would not be affected if his government gave Lalit Modi the passport he so desperately wanted. No. It was her authority as External Affairs Minister that swung it for Lalit Modi. The government’s silence was making Sushma’s position untenable. With no official word forthcoming on a matter concerning the government, it seemed that the PM had washed his hands off the whole affair and Sushma would have to resign. Jaitley has now clarified that the government owns her action on the principle of collective responsibility. Yet, despite this certificate, murmurs continue in the BJP that Sushma may still quit. Apparently, she did offer to resign when she got wind that a British newspaper and an Indian TV channel were hot on her trail. She met the PM and said she would put in her papers to spare him blushes. He appears to have rejected her offer. It would seem that we haven’t heard the last word on l’affaire Sushma-Modi.

he Association of Hospitals (AOH) is planning to make Mumbai a healthcare hub in India for which it has set four strategies. Revealing its plans in a press conference in Mumbai on Tuesday, AOH officials said their focus is not on medical tourism but to give better healthcare to people in the city. “The first strategy is to give the patients better quality care. The second is the know patient experience. The third is infrastructure and the fourth is collaborations and reputation management,” said Vice President of AOH Gautam Khanna. “For better quality of patient care, it is necessary that we have good quality doctors, nurses and staff looking after the patient. It is also the patient's first expectation that they receive good healthcare. This can be done with the help of our second strategic measure, patient experience,” said Khanna. Survey conducted among 380 young adults in Mumbai reveals positive attitudes regarding children and a strong, concerned voice against child labour

he United Nations in a 2014 report on young population across the globe pegged India as the leader with 356 million 10-24 year-olds. India officially now has the world's largest youth population despite having a smaller population than China. These 356 million youths will carve out the future of this nation and keeping that in mind, Child Rights and You (CRY) has decided to reach out to young adults across the city of Mumbai, to understand their perspective on issues relating to children. In a first amongst a possible series of studies amongst the youth, CRY decided to focus on the issue of child labour first given the scale of this problem in India. According to the 2011 Census child labour data, the total number of working children in India between the ages of 5-14 years is 10.13 million. This might be a smaller number in comparison with the number of children in India, but when one realises that roughly every 11th child in India is a child labourer — the seriousness of this epidemic, finally, dawns on you. In the CRY survey, youth from 60+ colleges were targeted and a team of 10 volunteers and interns conducted the interviews. The questionnaire featured 13 questions, some open-ended, some close-ended and most with multiple answers to choose from. Most questions also evolved into a semiinterview, allowing the interviewee to have short conversations with the interviewer, duly recorded. “Foreseeing this generation as the future of the country leaves us with a lot of hope. The findings of this CRY survey have indicated that the youth of today are sensitive towards children and we hope that they continue as ardent supporters of child rights, working proactively towards a safe childhood for all children across India,” said Kreeanne Rabadi, Regional Director, CRY (West).

Sources said a team of lawyers and other representatives of the actor reached the probe agency's office at Salt Lake here and handed over a Demand Draft (DD) to the investigating officer (IO) of the case. "This was part of Chakraborty's earlier commitment that he would return the funds that he had received from the group. The DD has been given to the IO of the Saradha scam probe case," sources said. They added that the agency is satisfied with the said action and the statement recorded by the actor-politician regarding his role in the operations of the group, which has now become defunct in the wake of allegations against it of perpetrating a large-scale chit-fund scam in West Bengal and other states. Jaguar aircraft crashes near Allahabad, pilots eject safely

ALLAHABAD: A Jaguar aircraft of Indian Air Force crashed near here yesterday morning during a training sortie and the two pilots ejected safely, the second such incident this year. The aircraft crashed on a piece of uninhabited land near a warehouse of Food Corporation of India at Naini, about 50 kms from the Indian Air Force's Central Air Command at Bamrauli on the outskirts of the city from where it had taken off at 7:25 am. Police said that there was no casualty or damage to property on land. The IAF said both the pilots ejected safely at 8.47 am and a court of inquiry has been ordered into the crash. "Fortunately, the pilots ejected safely. Other things like the probable cause are to be assessed," Defence spokesman Group Captain B B Pande said.

We don't want to do that. LUCKNOW: The Allahabad High Court yesterday directed the Uttar Pradesh government to file a status report within one week in the murder of a journalist in Shahjahanpur, in which a SP minister and five others have been booked. The court asked government counsel to inform it about the stage of investigation by June 24 along with their objections raised during course of hearing the matter. The order was passed by a vacation division bench of Justices Narain Shukla and Pratyush Kumar on a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) seeking directions for a CBI probe into the killing. The order was issued on the PIL filed by 'We The People', an NGO, on June 11. A direction has also been sought in the petition for providing adequate compensation to the deceased scribe's family.

JAMMU: More than 40 members of the AIIMS coordination committee yesterday took their turn as the chain hunger strike entered fifth consecutive day. The chain hunger strike launched by the AIIMS coordination committee, an amalgam of more than 70 religious, social, political, business and civil society groups spearheading agitation in support of setting up of an AIIMS in Jammu region, entered fifth day yesterday. Around 40 members from various groups, including SOS International, an organisation of the PoK refugees today took their turn to sit on strike. "We have already extended our support to the cause of setting up of AIIMS in Jammu. Mount Litera School International, located at the heart of Bandra Kurla Complex in Mumbai, organized a mega session for parents and kids on Capoeira, a Brazilian martial art form. This event, titled ‘Batizado 2015’, was organized in association with Centre For Capoeira India recently. The event witnessed some spectacular performances from the students of Reza Baba Massah, Instructor and Founder of Capoeira Cordao de Ouro in India. Capoeira is a Brazilian martial art form which combines music, dance and self-defence movements. Mount Litera School International aims to provide quality education to students along with the inclusion of various art forms such as Capoeira. am a Graduate (BMS) and I opted for Marketing major at my Graduation level in college. I spent my energy in college preparing myself to become a managerial expert. But it wasn't until my internship after my graduation that I began to develop my interest in Public relations. I was assigned a mentor who helped me understand the field better and map out my career plans. I feel the field is quite challenging but at the same time is fun as well. You get to meet new people and get to explore new things with every client you handle. verybody has heard of big fat Indian weddings, a source of much celebration in India. In India no celebration is complete without dancing, singing and, most importantly, firecrackers. The dancing and singing, of course, are enjoyable. However, the firecrackers not only create noise pollution, but also create a mess. When a firecracker is burst, nobody thinks of cleaning up the mess caused after it burns out. Instead, it is commonly assumed, that with the crackers going up in flames, nothing remains. Clearly, no object can just disappear into thin air, and these scraps, like many others that are neglected, build up until they become a visible mountain of trash long after their invisible fumes merge with the surrounding atmosphere. These days we are all bombarded by messages about the Swachh Bharat campaign, which translates to Clean India in English. However, not everybody knows exactly what the movement entails, nor do they know how to get involved. For the movement to succeed, it is vital that the people of the country are directly involved with the process. A country can only take steps forward through the combined effort of these citizens. Swachh Bharat operates on three levels. The first level includes projects on the governmental level, which are funded by the 2 per cent cess in service tax that was introduced for that very purpose. These projects would include things such as the cleaning of roads, installation of garbage cans, etc. The second level consists of voluntary activities carried out by different housing societies or neighbourhood organisations. This level of Swachh Bharat includes the cleaning of India by the citizens and is spurred by the lack of cleanliness in their country.

This level would be manifested in several ways, such as citizens gathering together and cleaning the streets and the citizens separating their trash correctly so that it can be recycled or disposed of correctly.

The third level of Swachh Bharat is the mandatory level, in which the government, in order for the progress of the Swachh Bharat project, mandates cleaning or the changing of policies.

Despite the action of the government regarding Swachh Bharat, a government only exists for its people, therefore, it is up to the people to do their duty and help this movement for a clean India. A government can make policies and also in cases, impose fines but the real groundwork has to be done by the people. That not only requires physical work but needs a change in attitude too. The issue with waste in India comes from the very roots of Indian culture, which have come to promote freedom without the sense of civic responsibility. Most Indians believe that cleaning is somebody else’s job. This is reflected in the way that people dispose trash. Many people throw trash on the street because they think they are only responsible for keeping their immediate environment clean and not their streets. In spite of the presence of dustbins, people do not care and throw trash wherever they want. Many small packets of trash not disposed of in a timely, proper manner can turn into a mountain of trash in no time. Therefore, I call upon the people of India to take responsibility for their actions and make sure that trash is disposed of correctly. Only a collective will and desire to change this will show us a path towards a cleaner, better India. It is important that each and every citizen of this country is part of this initiative, because, as it is with trash, a big impact is only caused by a multitude of smaller impacts. It is time to take responsibility for our actions and look at the big picture in terms of trash. It may take less effort to throw a small piece of trash onto the street than to wait and dispose of it correctly, but this effort is vital in the endeavor of making Swachh Bharat a reality.

It is a remedial, supplementary procedure used along with oral medicines. It is one of the rapidly growing areas of medicine that involves heat radiation, massages and diathermy. Physiotherapists are as essential as doctors in helping recovery and rehabilitation of a patient from a state of incapacity, due to genetic defect or the result of an accident or an illness. The job of a physiotherapist, which is preventive, restorative and rehabilitative, is challenging but lucrative at the same time. They are qualified to perform a history and physical examination, conduct assessments to determine a diagnosis process, select appropriate physical therapy interventions to treat the dysfunction, and monitor the effectiveness of treatment. Physiotherapists use various therapeutic intervention techniques to treat a patient. The growth in the domestic economy has lead to growth in almost every sector and the emergence of new age sectors. With the entrepreneurial boom, the ecosystem now looks at the role of Chartered Accountants from a different dimension including Chartered Accountants themselves. The opportunities have opened up in not only once considered traditional sectors like Banking, Insurance, Manufacturing but also in new age sectors like modern retail, Healthcare, Information Technology, Education, E-Commerce, Logistics includ-

ing segments like Investment Banking, Venture Capital/Private Equity. Chartered Accountants are also partnering with businesses like never before to increasingly move up the corporate ladder to occupy positions of a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) or a Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Venture Capital/Private Equity once considered to be the domain of management graduates from Ivy league schools is also seeing a fair share of Chartered Accountants evaluating deals, raising funds, working with entrepreneurs and being a part of company boards.

A stint with a large accounting/audit firm itself today has undergone changes with areas like Mergers & Acquisitions, International Tax, Consulting, Risk Management, Corporate Finance opening up new vistas for CA’s. Many CA’s consider entrepreneurship itself as a viable career option today. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) needs to take a large part of the credit since they have managed to retain the standards of the course fairly high, which has ensured that largely the quality of the Chartered Accountants is good and they are sought after by prospective employers. The number of people who are registering for the course has gone up significantly over the years; students and parents are able to see the opportunities that a career as a CA offers. However, with the increase in demand, the institute needs to ensure that the supply of CA’s is not a bottleneck while ensuring that it works closely with companies to ensure that the gap between academics and expectations from companies is narrowed down.

REVIEW OF THE PREVIOUS DAY: The Nifty rose marginally on Tuesday (June 16, 2015) a net 33.40 points (0.42%) and closed at the 8047 point level. The market opened down with a gap at the 8004 points level. It then declined and registered the day’s low at the 7952 points level at 1.56 p.m. The index then rose sharply into the green and registered the day’s high at the 8061 points level at 3.28 p.m. and then turned into a range bound movement until closing at the day. The Nifty witnessed a volatile session and moved in a range of 110 points. Sentiment was bullish and amongst the 50 Nifty stocks 38 were gainers, while 12 stocks closed in the red. Substantial buying was witnessed in consumer durables and auto stocks.

TECHNICAL ANALYSIS: Volume: Volume (Qty shares) decreased 1.22%. This change is small and indicates a moderate participation by investors. Market Breadth: Overall Market Breadth on the NSE was positive. Amongst all the traded stocks, 736 were gainers, 692 were losers and 48 remained unchanged.

Further, the velocity parameters which were negatively trended have now turned neutral. This is positive. But, the index continues to remain below its 15, 25 and 200 day moving averages. Further, the 15 and 25 day moving averages are declining. This is negative. As such these are mixed signals. A clearer picture will emerge in the coming few days.

Nokia, LG Join Hands, Ink Smartphone Patent Licence

LG Electronics will soon embed technologies developed by Nokia in its smartphones as the Korean firm has agreed to take a royalty-bearing smartphone patent licence from the Finnish telecom gear maker. "We are pleased to welcome LG Electronics to our licensing programme," Nokia Technologies President Ramzi Haidamus said in a statement. LG Electronics is the latest of more than 60 licensees for Nokia's 2G, 3G and 4G mobile communication technologies and the first major smartphone manufacturer to join the licensing programme since Nokia divested its devices and services business to Microsoft in 2014.

Govt Plans Selling 3% Stake In BPCL To Raise Rs 1,800 Cr The government plans to sell 3% stake in Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd, the nation's second largest state oil firm, this fiscal to raise around Rs 1,800 crore. Finance Ministry has moved a Cabinet note for inter-ministerial consultations for selling 2.16 crore shares in BPCL through a public offer, official sources said. At current trading price of Rs 820, the stake sale will fetch the government over Rs 1,778 crore. The government holds 54.93% stake in BPCL. Divesting 3% interest will help government keep its shareholding well above 51% - the minimum strategic holding it has decided to keep in key public sector unit.

MF Exposure To Bank Stocks Climbs To Rs 79,000 Cr

Mutual Fund managers have been on a shopping spree for banking stock, raising their allocation to the sector to over Rs 79,000 crore in May in anticipation of a rate cut by the Reserve Bank. In comparison, equity fund managers' deployment in banking stocks stood at Rs 48,419 crore in May 2014. According to industry experts, fund managers raised their allocation last month to bank stocks expecting a rate cut by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). The allocation is expected to increase further this month as RBI, in its policy review on June 2, had cut interest rate by 25 basis points to 7.25%, they said.

ndia’s exports stood at $22.35 billion in May, down 20.2% y-o-y after falling by 14.0% last month. This marks the sixth consecutive monthly decline. Cumulatively during April and May 2015-16, exports declined by 17.2% y-o-y to $44.4 billion. The decline in exports in May was broad-based. While oil exports fell by 59.1% y-o-y in May from 46.5% y-o-y in April (though average Brent crude oil prices rose to $64.1/barrel in May from $59.5/barrel in April), non-oil exports declined by 9.7%. Besides oil, exports of the other two most-shipped items – engineering goods (25.2% share) and gems and jewellery (13.4% share) declined by 8% and 13% respectively. Services exports too have started feeling the brunt of weak demand. India’s services exports fell by 4.5% y-o-y to $13.1 billion in May. With this, services exports have declined for the second consecutive month. Incidentally, the Trade deficit remains under check as imports also plunged and fell for the sixth consecutive month, by 16.5% y-o-y to $32.75 billion in May. The fall was the largest since December 2014 owing to a sudden drop in gold imports. Gold imports grew by 10.5%

ndia is home to the fourth largest number of Ultra-High-Net-Worth Households that have more than 100 million dollars in private wealth, according to a new report by the Boston Consulting Group's 'Global Wealth 2015: Winning the Growth Game'. The report says continued economic expansion of China and India was driving growth in wealth in the Asia- Pacific region. The US remains the country with the largest number of ultra-highnet-worth (UHNW) households at 5,201, followed by China (1,037), the UK (1,019), India (928) and Germany (679) in 2014, it said. India's UHNW households grew manifold from 2013 when the number stood at 284. Private wealth in the Asia-Pacific region expanded by a steep 29% in 2014 to reach USD 47 trillion, enabling it to overtake Europe (Eastern and Western Europe combined) to become the world's second-wealthiest region, the report said. With a projected USD 57 trillion in 2016, Asia-Pacific (excluding Japan) is expected to surpass North America (a projected USD 56 trillion) as the wealthiest region in the world and will be the largest pool for client acquisition. "At such a pace, the region is expected to overtake North America as the world's richest region in 2016, with USD 57 trillion in private wealth," the report released yesterday said. The region is also projected to hold 34% of global wealth in 2019. With a projected annual growth rate of almost 10%, private wealth in Asia-Pacific will rise to an estimated USD 75 trillion in 2019. Growth in wealth in the Asia-Pacific region was driven heavily by the continued economic expansion of its two largest economies China and India, the report said. Private wealth in China and India also showed solid market gains driven mainly by investments in local equities, it said.

China's equity market rose by 38% and India's by 23%, it added. Global private financial wealth grew by nearly 12% in 2014 to reach a total of USD 164 trillion. The rise was in line with 2013, when global wealth also grew by just over 12%, the report said. Over the next five years, total private wealth globally is projected to post a compound annual growth rate of 6% to reach an estimated USD 222 trillion in 2019. The US remained the wealthiest individual country, ahead of both China and Japan, it said. At a projected annual growth of 12% over the next five years, private wealth held by the UHNW segment will grow to an estimated USD 18 trillion in 2019.Globally, the total number of millionaire households (those with more than USD 1 million in private wealth) reached 17 million in 2014, up strongly from 15 million in 2013, the report said. The increase was driven primarily by the solid market performance of existing assets, in both the new and old worlds, it said. From a regional perspective, the US still had the highest number of millionaire households in 2014 (7 million), followed by China (4 million), which showed the highest number of new millionaires (1 million). Japan was third, with 1 million millionaire households, down from previous years due to the fall of the yen versus the US dollar. According to the report, the highest density of millionaires was in Switzerland, where 135 out of every 1,000 households had private wealth greater than USD1 million, followed by Bahrain (123), Qatar (116), Singapore (107), Kuwait (99) and Hong Kong (94). As for offshore wealth originating in Asia-Pacific (excluding Japan), Singapore and Hong Kong remained the top destinations. Preparations for new Kailash pilgrimage route in place: China WORLD

MUMBAI | WEDNESDAY, JUNE 17, 2015

EIJING: China is pressing ahead with preparations to open the new second Kailash Manasarovar Yatra road route to Indian pilgrims on June 22 despite difficulties caused by the recent devastating earthquake in Nepal which has badly affected the border regions in Tibet. "While coping with the earthquake and despite the difficulties, relevant authorities of China are pressing ahead with the preparation work for opening the route in a well-organised way," the Chinese Foreign Ministry said in an e-mail response to PTI here. The first batch of the pilgrims was expected to travel through the new land route through Nathu La in Sikkim on June 22. Several Indian and Chinese officials were expected to take part in the event. The April 25 devastating earthquake in Nepal has also caused havoc in the border regions of Tibet with heavy landslides and house collapses. Eighteen people were killed in Tibet and dozens injured in the quake. The damage caused by the earthquake has earlier created un-

certainty about this year's Kailash pilgrimage. However, China said preparations for the new route were made keeping up with the schedule. China has agreed to open the second route, which is completely accessible by road during last year's visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made a request to Xi on the issue. Indian Ambassador to China Ashok Kantha had visited Tibet and travelled to Kailash Manasarovar last October to discuss the preparations with Chinese officials. About 250 people were expected to take part in batches to go to pilgrimage in batches.

EW YORK: India is home to the fourth largest number of ultra-high-net-worth households that have more than 100 million dollars in private wealth, according to a new report topped by the US. The Boston Consulting Group's 'Global Wealth 2015: Winning the Growth Game' report said continued economic expansion of China and India was driving growth in wealth in the Asia- Pacific region. The US remains the country with the largest number of ultra-

high-net-worth (UHNW ) households at 5,201, followed by China (1,037), the UK (1,019), India (928) and Germany (679) in 2014, it said. India's UHNW households grew manifold from 2013 when the number stood at 284. The private wealth in the AsiaPacific region expanded by a steep 29 per cent in 2014 to reach USD 47 trillion, enabling it to overtake Europe (Eastern and Western Europe combined) to become the world's second-wealthiest region, the report said.

Elder abuse lowest in India among Asian countries

ASHINGTON: India has the lowest prevalence of elder abuse in Asian countries, according to a new global review which found that 14 per cent older adults in the country may face psychological, physical, and sexual abuse and financial exploitation compared to 36 per cent in China. The researchers said that in Asia, the highest prevalence of elder abuse was found among older adults in China (36 per cent), while the lowest was reported among

older adults in India (14 per cent). The study found that elder abuse is common among communitydwelling older adults and is especially prevalent among minority older adults.

Indian banker commits suicide in UAE

UBAI: A 30-year-old Indian banker in the UAE allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself in his room attached to the bank's premises, a media report said today. The worker, identified as SL, had been working in a Sharjah-based bank for several years and reportedly did not suffer from any mental illness. The deceased's colleague found the body yesterday, Khaleej Times reported. The police transferred the body to the forensic laboratory for an autopsy. They collected forensic evidence from the room. The deceased's acquaintances are being questioned by the police to ascertain the reason behind the alleged suicide, the report said.

EW YORK: In a significant verdict, a Sikh-American student at a city-based university after a long struggle has been allowed by a US court to enrol in an army programme without removing his articles of faith. A federal judge on Friday ruled in favour of Iknoor Singh, a student at Long Island-based Hofstra University, to enrol in US Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps (ROTC) programme without shaving his beard, cutting his hair or removing

his turban. The 20-year-old student, born and raised in Queens, New York, had previously been denied the right to enrol in his college's ROTC programme due to his religious articles of faith. Singh had alleged that the army's refusal to accommodate his religious exercise violates the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA) and had brought a lawsuit against Secretary of the US Army John McHugh and Commander of the ROTC programme at Hofstra University.

Project Premonition, launched by American tech company Microsoft, is developing a system that aims to detect infectious disease outbreaks before they become widespread. Project Premonition could eventually allow health officials to get a jump start on preventing outbreaks of a disease like dengue fever or avian flu before it occurs, whether or not it is a disease spread by mosquitoes, researchers said. It will do that by relying on what Ethan Jackson, the Microsoft researcher who is spearheading the project, calls 'nature's drones' - mosquitoes - to look for early signs that a particular illness could be on the move.

Amjyot Singh, 6 foot-9 inch forward, and 7-foot centre Amritpal Singh have signed a three-month contract with the Hyogo Impulse of the BJ Challenge Summer League. They will be the first ever Indians to play professional basketball in Japan. Both Amjyot and Amritpal have been stars of the Indian men’s national team over the past two years, leading them to the historic, first ever victory over China in 2014 during the 4th FIBA Asia Cup held in Wuhan, China. The two Indian big men will participate against Japanese hopefuls with an eye toward being picked up for one of the three professional leagues in Japan – the top league - NBL (National Basketball League), its development league – NBDL (National Basketball Development League), or the BJ League. TAVANGER (NORWAY): Indian Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand lost to world champion Magnus Carlsen from a winning position to finish fifth in the blitz event that acts as a curtain raiser for the Norway Chess tournament which begins here. After starting off with two victories, Anand missed out on a winning opportunity against Norwegian Carlsen and finally ended fifth with 5.5 points out of a possible nine in the blitz event. Pakistan players get Indian visa for South Asian TT

NEW DELHI: The Pakistan squad has got the Indian visa to compete in the South Asian Cadet and Junior Table Tennis Championships which began yesterday. Dhanraj Choudhary, secretary general at the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI), told PTI that Pakistan team has confirmed its participation alongside Sri Lanka, Nepal and Maldives. "They (Pakistan paddlers) are on their way to Delhi from Wagah Border, they should reach by midnight. The players got the visa as all the formalities were completed in time. We look forward to their participation along with other teams. Bangladesh players are

still awaiting their visa, hopefully they will be here by tomorrow," said Choudhary. Last week saw a blame game between the sports officials of India and Pakistan after the wrestlers from across the border were denied the visa to India for the Cadet Asian Wrestling Championship that concluded here on Sunday. Pakistan wrestling body refuted its Indian counterparts' claim that it had not submitted the visa documents on time. The previous South Asian Cadet and Junior Table Tennis Championships took place in Islamabad, where India won a rich haul of 10 medals.

Milan sack manager Inzaghi after poor season

ilan: AC Milan dismissed manager Filippo Inzaghi on Tuesday after a disappointing season in which they finished 10th in Serie A and failed to qualify for Europe for the second time in a row. The 41-year-old had been in charge for one season and was the third coach to be sacked in the last 18 months by the floundering seventimes European champions following Massimiliano Allegri and Clarence Seedorf. Inzaghi, who spent 10 years at the club as a player, struggled throughout much of a campaign that brought their lowest number of wins since 2001 and his future had long been questioned. OSLO: The Nobel Peace Centre in Oslo announced that it will end its partnership with football's world governing body FIFA, which has been engulfed by an unprecedented corruption scandal. The Nobel centre and FIFA have been partners in the "Handshake for Peace" initiative between team captains and officials since 2012. "The board of directors asked management to end cooperation with FIFA as soon as
