The North Rim of the Grand Canyon Arizona’s Ultimate Fall Leaves Driving Tour!

September 30th – October 2nd, 2025 Tuesday-Thursday

$599 Per Person (Double Occupancy) +$169 (Single Supplement)

Day One: We’ll leave the Valley with a stop for coffee and goodies on our way to Cameron Trading Post for lunch on self. Nestled along the Colorado River and just 30 minutes south of the Grand Canyon, this historic trading post has been catering to Arizona tourists for over 100 years, serving great food at moderate prices. After lunch, it’s back in the Transits as we head to Kanab, Utah an incredibly scenic drive through Navajo land, with views of Marble Canyon, Lake Powell, Glen Canyon Dam, and more. After checking into our hotel, we’ll take a little time to refresh, gather for our own Happy Hour, and then head out for dinner on self.

Day Two: Breakfast is included at the hotel, then it’s back in the Transits as we head for the North Rim of the Grand Canyon! More remote and less developed, the North Rim attracts far fewer tourists than the South Rim. At an elevation ranging from 8,000 to 9,000 feet above sea level, the North Rim forms the edge of the Kaibab Plateau offering some of the most spectacular views in the world. In early October, autumn colors should be at their peak, the weather fingers crossed still pleasant, and the crowds greatly diminished. Our journey to the North Rim is a dramatic one, taking us past golden stands of quaking aspen and into forests of ancient spruce, fir, and pine trees. We’ll explore the North Rim as a driving tour along paved roads, stopping at key viewpoints with an eye out for wildlife. We’ll enjoy lunch on self at the Kaibab Lodge, offering ringside seating to all this breathtaking scenery. Late in the afternoon, we’ll return to our hotel, enjoy our own Happy Hour, and then dinner on self.

Day Three: Breakfast is included at the hotel, then it’s bags out as we head for home, with a stop for lunch on self in historic downtown Flagstaff and plenty of great sightseeing along the way. Don’t miss this bucket list tour!

Silver City, New Mexico!

August 18th -20th, 2025 Monday-Wednesday

$779 Per Person (Double Occupancy) +$150 (Single Supplement)

Day One: Situated in the Southwest corner of New Mexico, Silver City offers equal parts Old West Heritage and vibrant arts community. We’ll enjoy a scenic journey to this boyhood town of Billy the Kid, with plenty of pitstops, including a stop for lunch, on self, along the way. We’ll check into the completely refurbished Silver City Holiday Inn Express, and after a refresh we’ll gather for our own Happy Hour before heading downtown to enjoy a Welcome Dinner, included, with your fellow travelers.

Day Two: Breakfast is included, at the hotel, then we’re off to explore the Trail of the Mountain Spirits Scenic Byway. We’ll travel through the beautiful Mimbres Valley, into San Lorenzo, a quiet village and home to the historic San Lorenzo church, said to be the site of an actual miracle. Further into the Mimbres Valley, we’ll take the cut-off to beautiful Bear Canyon Lake and head for the famous Gila Cliff Dwellings. For thousands of years nomadic people used the caves of the Gila River as temporary shelter. By the late 1200’s, people of the Mogollan Culture settled into this region, building rooms in the cliff dwellings for a brief period of about 20 years, then moving on. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch, included, at the Gila Cliff Dwellings trailhead, a gorgeous setting overlooking the ruins. If you’re feeling ambitious, a 2 minute walk will take you to a wall of pictographs, a 5 minute walk will take you to a three-room dwelling, and an uphill climb that is equivalent to 18 flights of stairs will take you into the Gila Cliff Dwellings. After lunch, we’ll continue past lush green fields and grazing horses, with plenty of scenic stops along the way to enjoy the butterflies, 337 different species of birds, and abundant wild flowers. We’ll stop at Lake Roberts, where it is very common to find whole herds of deer grazing along the road. From here we’ll head for the old mining community of Pinos Altos, where gold was discovered in 1860 and many of the buildings from that era are still standing. Continuing on the Trail of the Mountain Spirits, we’ll stop at an overlook to explore a panoramic view of the Chino mine, one of the largest open pit copper mines in the world. From here we’ll head back into Silver City for a refresh at our hotel before heading out to enjoy dinner, included, followed by a free evening.

Day Three: We’ll enjoy breakfast, included at the hotel. After breakfast, it’s bags out, and we’re off to explore Catwalk Recreation Area, a half-mile-long bridge dramatically suspended along a beautiful canyon, over a cool creek that borders the Gila Wilderness. The Catwalk follows the path of the pipeline built in the 1890’s to deliver water to the mining town of Graham. Workmen had to enter the canyon by crawling atop the narrow pipeline named the “Catwalk.” In the 1930’s the Civilian Conservation Corps rebuilt the Catwalk. Metal walkways were bolted to the narrow canyon walls where there was no room to cut a trail, creating an easy walkway that is universally accessible for all visitors. Here’s your opportunity to explore the canyon once used as a hideout for both Geronimo and Butch Cassidy! Later back in the Transits we’ll head for home with a stop for lunch, on self, and plenty of great sightseeing along the way. Don’t miss this Kindred Tours Classic!

The Chiricahuas A Wonderland of Rocks!

September 16th -17th, 2025 Tuesday-Wednesday

$399 Per Person (Double Occupancy) +$69 (Single Supplement)

In the far southeastern corner of Arizona are the impressive Chiricahua Mountains, one of several “sky island” mountain ranges rising sharply from the surrounding desert grasslands. The Chiricahua Mountains are an inactive volcanic range roughly twenty miles wide and forty miles long. They form part of the Mexican Highland section of the Basin and Range Biogeographical Province and rise dramatically from the valley floor to over nine thousand feet, cresting in a series of rugged, volcanic looking peaks. At the northern end of the range is an extraordinary area of striking geological features and remarkable biodiversity. Tucked deep into its steep, forested valleys and craggy peaks are the remains of a massive volcanic eruption that occurred some 27 million years ago the pinnacles, columns, spires, and balanced rocks of Chiricahua National Monument. The Apache people called this place “The Land of Standing Up Rocks,” a fitting name for its canyons of towering stone formations. Early pioneers in the late 1800s, including the Ericksons and the Riggs, recognized the unique beauty and singularity of the area and were instrumental in persuading Congress to protect this “Wonderland of Rocks,” leading to its designation as Chiricahua National Monument in 1924. In 2023, Congress authorized its redesignation as Chiricahua National Park, poised to become Arizona’s newest national park and cementing its place as one of the state’s premier natural treasures.

Day One: We’ll head south for Tucson, where we’ll enjoy lunch on self in the historic Congress Street District, home to many fantastic restaurants. Back in the Transits, we’ll travel to Birds and Barrels Vineyard, where the onsite tasting room is located on the Willcox Bench, offering remarkable views of the Sulphur Springs Valley to the west and the Dos Cabezas Mountains rising over the vineyard to the north. We’ll taste a flight of five wines at Birds and Barrels, where the focus is not only on producing great wine but also on offering its guests an Arizona wine experience and it’s all included. Later, we’ll check into our hotel rooms at the Holiday Inn Express, and after a refresh, we’ll enjoy a Welcome Dinner, complete with a glass of beer or wine, at the Double S Steakhouse, a great favorite with the locals included.

Day Two: We’ll enjoy breakfast, included at the hotel, then we’re off to explore Chiricahua National Monument. Early afternoon, we’ll make our way to Tirrito Farm, a welcoming destination farm in the heart of Arizona’s wine country, where we’ll enjoy lunch on self. Tirrito Farm offers visitors a fabulous and affordable lunch menu that includes a lineup of craft beers, artisan cheeses, and local wines. After lunch, we’ll jump on the Old West Highway and hightail it for home. It’s gonna be fun!

featuring Mesa Verde & Chaco Culture National Parks

October 20th -23rd, 2025

$949 Per Person (Double Occupancy) +$231 (Single Supplement)

The Trail of the Ancients is a modern-day drive that connects the migration routes of America’s first peoples— the Ancestral Puebloans—who occupied a vast region of the American Southwest for over 2,000 years. The only National Scenic Byway that was designated primarily for its archaeological sites, the trail passes through some of the southwest’s most protected places. With no particular right or wrong way to explore this multi-state trail which the Federal Highway Administration says is 480 miles in total we’ve planned a route that takes us through the trail’s most iconic sites, including Mesa Verde and Chaco Culture National Parks.

Day One: We’ll leave the Valley headed for Farmington, New Mexico, enjoying plenty of pitstops along the way, including a stop for lunch, on self, at the Painted Desert Diner at Petrified Forest National Park. Late afternoon, we’ll check into the Holiday Inn Express, and after a refresh, we’ll head out to enjoy a festive Welcome Dinner, included.

Day Two: Breakfast is included at the hotel. Back in the Transits we’re headed for Chaco Culture National Park. Chaco Canyon is home to the densest and most exceptional concentration of pueblos in the American Southwest. The park preserves one of the most important pre-Columbian cultural and historical areas in the United States. Between 850 to 1250 CE (Common Era), Chaco Canyon was a major center of culture for the Ancient Pueblo Peoples. Chacoans quarried sandstone blocks and hauled timber from great distances, assembling fifteen major complexes that remained the largest buildings in North America until the 19th century. Many Chacoan buildings may have been aligned to capture the solar and lunar cycles, requiring generations of astronomical observations and centuries of skillfully coordinated construction. Climate change is thought to have led to the emigration of Chacoans and the eventual abandonment of the canyon, beginning with a fifty-year drought commencing in 1130. Chaco Canyon is a World Heritage Site and considered sacred ancestral homelands by the Hopi and Pueblo people, who maintain oral accounts of their historical migration from Chaco and their spiritual relationship to the land. We’ll enjoy a picnic lunch, included, while exploring Chaco Canyon. Late afternoon we’ll head back to our hotel, and after a refresh we’ll gather for our own Happy Hour, included, before heading out to enjoy dinner on self.

Day Three: Breakfast is included at the hotel. Back in the Transits we’re headed for Mesa Verde National Park. For over 700 years, the Ancestral Pueblo people built thriving communities on the mesas and in the cliffs of Mesa Verde.

Today, the park protects the rich cultural heritage of 27 Pueblos and Tribes and offers visitors a spectacular window into the past. This World Heritage Site and International Dark Sky Park is home to over a thousand species, including several that live nowhere else on earth. Early afternoon we’ll travel to historic Durango, Colorado, where we’ll enjoy lunch, on self, with several wonderful restaurants to choose from. Later we’ll visit Aztec Ruins National Monument, a Chaco Canyon outlier, home to some of the best-preserved Chacoan structures of its kind. We’ll learn about the ancestral Pueblo people in the park's museum and explore the Aztec West great house to see exceptionally advanced architecture, original wooden beams, and a restored Great Kiva. Aztec Ruins is a deeply sacred place to many Indigenous peoples across the American Southwest. Early evening we’ll return to our hotel, and after a refresh we ’ll gather for our own Happy Hour, included, before heading out to enjoy dinner on self.

Day Four: Breakfast is included at the hotel, then it’s bags out and we’re headed for home. The Riordan Mansion

July 7th, Monday……………………….……...$133

Brothers Timothy and Michael Riordan were members of a prominent Arizona Territory family involved in lumber, railroads, cattle, banking, and politics. Sons of Irish immigrants, they moved to Flagstaff to run the local lumber mill, which was established to provide wood for the Transcontinental Railroad. The Riordan brothers married two sisters, Caroline and Elizabeth Metz. Working together the brothers built two nearly identical Arts and Crafts style mansions, connected by a large billiards room for a total of over 13,000 square feet of living area and servants’ quarters, with each family living in one of the mansions. Charles Whittlesey, who was chief architect for the Santa Fe Railroad and designer of the Grand Canyon's El Tovar Lodge, designed the state-of-the-art home in 1904, using local materials, such as volcanic basalt and Ponderosa pine trees to blend into the surrounding environment. The family lived in the mansion until the 1980’s when the second generation gifted Arizona State Parks the property. Arizona State Parks received a warranty from the surviving members of the Riordan family, conveying the Riordan homes, most of the contents, such as the east and west wings of the mansion, and five acres of surrounding land for State Park purposes. The state park opened on August 4, 1983, to preserve and share the history of not just the

Riordan family, but of the city of Flagstaff. We’ll also enjoy lunch, on self, in historic downtown Flagstaff, home to many wonderful restaurants, so there is sure to be something for everyone.

Walnut Canyon

National

Monument

August 25th, Monday………………...….$115

We're beating the heat this summer with a journey into Arizona's High Country to explore Walnut Canyon. Established as a National Monument in 1915, Walnut Canyon preserves numerous cliff dwellings located along the limestone ledges of this deep canyon in the Flagstaff region. Let the Good Times Roll

A

New Orleans Gumbo at Phoenix Theatre

August 28th, Thursday ….…………..…$139

Embark on a musical excursion through the insatiable joie de vivre that defines a city known as “The Big Easy.” Fresh from a staged reading in the 2024 Festival of New American Theatre comes the tale of a heartbroken young woman as she discovers it is possible – in fact inevitable – to be reborn in the “city that care forgot.” With an ensemble of six representing the wide range of populations in one of the world’s most diverse cities, Let The Good Times Roll: A New Orleans Gumbo takes audiences on a journey through history, hardship, and ultimate triumph that is the hallmark of a place where even major catastrophes – from the Great Flood of 1927 to Hurricane Katrina – are somehow always overcome by faith in the future, and an unbridled enjoyment of the present. With a rich gumbo of melodies from

the renowned ragtime artist Jelly Roll Morton and “Empress of the Blues” Bessie Smith to the iconic funk, R&B, and jazz music of Fats Domino, The Meters, Dr. John, Harry Connick Jr., and the Neville Brothers, comes a toe-tapping world premiere that pays tribute to the life-changing spirit of Nawlins. Are you ready to let the good times roll? We’ll also enjoy lunch, on self, at the Miracle Mile Deli, prior to arriving at the theatre. “There is a story of a woman running away from tigers. She runs and runs and the tigers are getting closer and closer. When she comes to the edge of a cliff, she sees some vines there, so she climbs down and holds on to the vines. Looking down, she sees that there are tigers below her as well. She then notices that a mouse is gnawing away at the vine to which she is clinging. She also sees a beautiful little bunch of strawberries close to her, growing out of a clump of grass. She looks up and she looks down. She looks at the mouse. Then she just takes a strawberry, puts it in her mouth, and enjoys it thoroughly. Tigers above, tigers below.

This is actually the predicament that we are always in, in terms of our birth and death. Each moment is just what it is. It might be the only moment of our life; it might be the only strawberry we’ll ever eat. We could get depressed about it, or we could finally appreciate it and delight in the preciousness of every single moment of our life.”

In loving memory
