1- Stop QB poS Shell proceSSeS from running and rename the poS Shell folder
This error won’t let you run QuickBooks Point of Sale when the background processes of the software get interrupted by other applications. You’ll receive this error message as soon as you launch the software, and the software will automatically close after freezing for some seconds. You can rectify the problem by stopping the background processes of QB POS, which restarts them the next time you run QB POS. Follow these steps-
1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Delete altogether on the keyboard and tap Task Manager in the menu.
2. Go to the Processes tab and search for QBPOS Shell.
3. Single-click QBPOS to highlight it and select the End Task option.
4. Close the task manager after the process stops running.
You must now rename the QBPOS shell folder, as this error can also stop the software from launching if the folder contents get damaged. This’ll prevent the software from processing the files inside it, and the software will crash in the absence of essential program files. Use these steps-
1. Press Windows + E to open the file explorer and tap the View option at the top.
2. Mark the Hidden items checkbox.
3. Navigate to C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\Intuit and open the recently modified QBPOSshell.exe folder.
4. Right-click on the user.config file inside the folder and tap Rename.
5. Type ‘.old’ at the end of the file name and save the file as ‘user.configold.’
6. Rerun QB point of sale.
If QBPOS fails to launch due to the error again, try the next solution.
Solution 2- Sign in with your windowS admin account
QB Point of Sale also fails to run when the Windows account you are using doesn’t has the permissions to access the files in the system drive or execute some software tasks. You must use your Windows Admin account to fix the problem-
1. Click the Windows Start button and tap Username from the options.
2. Select Sign Out to go to the login screen.
3. Sign in again using your Windows Admin account and launch QuickBooks
Point of Sale.
The software won’t cause any problems while running after applying the methods.
