August/September 2016

Hi there I pray that you are well. I must apologise for not having sent out my newsletter over these past few months. It really has been a wonderful time of resting and seeking God as to His will for us in this new season. During this time some wonderful new opportunities have come our way. In August I started volunteering as an assistant English teacher at a local primary school. Not having much experience teaching at a primary level, it was a real step of faith as I walked into the classroom on that first day, but so far I have really enjoyed it. I am assisting with English teaching for Grades 2, 3 and 4 three mornings a week. When I first heard of the opportunity I was very worried about what I would do with Zoe during that time, but God has been faithful in providing us with a wonderful young woman by the name of Lucy who looks after her. Zoe took to her very quickly, which as you can imagine was a huge answer to prayer. I am also particularly enjoying getting to know the kids and learning how I can encourage them in their studies. The school is bilingual, but almost all of the children are second language English speakers, so it is quite a challenge for them to do half of their curriculum in English. My great desire is that I not only teach them the required content, but that I can also inspire confidence in them and help them feel accepted and secure in their school environment.

Jaime has also had an exciting opportunity come his way. He was approached by a small Christian NGO, Vida Abundante (Abundant Life) to help them seek fundraising for some of their projects. Vida Abundante works to acheive sustainable human development through eco-efficient projects that improve the quality of life of those in poverty. An example of one of their most successful projects was the creation of sustainable vegetable gardens in a township school virtually surrounded by a garbage dump. Their project was so successful that they were given an award in the Environmental Congress COP20. At the moment Jaime is basically volunteering, but we hope in the future a more permanent position might open up. Kai and Zoe are both well. This winter they have struggled quite a bit with various colds and fevers, but I take courage knowing that their immune systems are only getting stronger. They both continue to keep us on our toes, but at the same time bring us so much joy. Kai still tends to struggle a bit with going to school, but he is doing much better. Thank you so much for your continued support of and prayer for our family during this interesting new season. Please know that Jaime and I so appreciate your kindness and faithfulness as you sow into our family here in Peru. May God bless you abundantly! Lots of love, Kim
