THE CAMPAIGN FOR THE PHILADELPHIA ORCHESTRA AND ENSEMBLE ARTS

Our story begins with a blizzard in 1857, when the Academy of Music first opened its doors to a full house of determined concertgoers. Since then, a deep commitment to the arts has been central to our city’s identity.
For generations, The Philadelphia Orchestra and Ensemble Arts has stood at the heart of Philadelphia’s cultural life. Each year, we welcome nearly one million visitors, support 3,800 jobs, and reach 40,000 students through arts education and special programs. Our impact extends far beyond our stages, enriching neighborhoods and inspiring the next generation of artists and audiences.
Now, as we celebrate The Philadelphia Orchestra’s 125th anniversary and approach 25 years of the Kimmel Center, we are building on this foundation with renewed vision and purpose. The Campaign for The Philadelphia Orchestra and Ensemble Arts is a bold, $330 million investment in a vibrant future for the arts. It is our shared promise to champion artistic excellence, expand education and community access, and preserve and reimagine our iconic venues—the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, the Academy of Music, and the Miller Theater.
All of this depends on the enduring support of our community. From that snowy night on Broad Street to today’s thriving cultural landscape, this legacy continues to shape Philadelphia and guide our vision for a brighter future for the arts.

WE ARE SHINING A LIGHT ON:

Philadelphia deserves worldclass art. This campaign ensures we can continue to bring bold, multidisciplinary productions to our stages, elevating new voices and presenting the world’s most celebrated performers to inspire generations of diverse artists and audiences alike.
We are committed to expanding access to the performing arts for all Philadelphians through robust education programs, authentic partnerships, and community outreach. Our ambitious goal: to welcome every Philadelphia-area student to our venues at least three times during their K-12 years.
Our iconic venues—the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts, the Academy of Music, and the Miller Theater—require ongoing care and investment. This campaign allows us to preserve their historic beauty while reimagining how these spaces can serve artists and audiences in more welcoming, accessible ways.

My goal in life is to make sure that everyone feels welcome in the music and in the concert halls. Everyone should feel that this is for them.”
