Dear Friends,
We cannot wait to share what’s in store throughout the 2024–25 season. At the heart of everything we do is our mission to share the transformative power of the performing arts with the widest possible audience. In the following pages, we have something to delight everyone, whether it’s a night with the GRAMMY-winning Philadelphia Orchestra or a mid-week matinee of the Broadway smash hit The Wiz
This season with Music and Artistic Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin and The Philadelphia Orchestra is full of rare musical events, bold artistic juxtapositions, and new discoveries. Join us as acclaimed filmmaker M. Night Shyamalan hosts an evening of music from his mind-bending thrillers; as former Philadelphia Orchestra Music Director Riccardo Muti makes his heralded return for Verdi’s Requiem in a not-to-be-missed engagement; and as Yannick leads the Orchestra in three iconic symphonies by Mahler, and a once-in-a-lifetime concert performance of Richard Wagner’s exquisite Tristan and Isolde with two of the most incredible vocalists performing today.
Our stages and venues showcase a myriad of genres all year long, with the best of Broadway, comedy, jazz, pop, and family programming. We are also proud to serve as a home for world-renowned Resident Companies presenting opera, ballet, modern dance, chamber music, and more.
Whenever you visit, we invite you to enjoy a new culinary experience with Rhubarb Hospitality Collection by Oakview Group (RHC). With RHC’s elegance, quality, and experience, guests to our iconic venues will enjoy a beautiful food and beverage experience that contributes to the lasting memories made in our spaces. RHC will unveil a fresh new concept for the Commonwealth Plaza café and a new restaurant at the Kimmel Center later this fall.
This is our first season in the newly dedicated Marian Anderson Hall at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. Named in honor of the legendary Black singer, civil rights icon, and Philadelphian, Marian Anderson Hall is a permanent monument to its namesake’s artistry and achievements, a reflection of the inclusive future she helped to engender, and an active testament to the intersection of music, art, and positive social impact. As Marian Anderson continues to inspire us, we look forward to welcoming you as we forge a bright, inclusive future in which the arts are for everyone.
With warmest best wishes,
Matías Tarnopolsky President and CEO The Philadelphia Orchestra and Ensemble Arts

Behind the Scenes with Your Philadelphia Orchestra
Violist Marvin Moon
Where were you born?
I was born in Philadelphia.
What piece of music could you play over and over again?
All of Beethoven’s string quartets.
What’s your favorite Philadelphia restaurant?
When I lived in Center City, I went to Amada very often.
Tell us about your instrument.
It’s a viola made in 1997 by Robert Brode of Maple Shade, New Jersey. It’s a copy of a viola that was once owned by our principal violist, C.J. Chang!
What’s in your instrument case?
A lot of pencils, a lot of extra strings, photos of my family, drawings by my kids, and a very special painting of bamboo that my father gave me. It means so much to me that I had it tattooed on me.
If you could ask one composer one question what would it be?
Mr. Berlioz, can I buy you a drink?
What piece of music never fails to move you? Schumann’s Second Symphony.
When did you join the Orchestra? September 2007.
Do you play any other instruments? I’ve blown through a trombone and bassoon at some point, but I don’t think it qualifies as “playing.”
Do you speak any other languages? Korean.
Do you have a favorite movie? The Godfather
When was the first time you heard The Philadelphia Orchestra?
When I was nine years old. It was Mozart’s Symphony No. 29 led by Kurt Masur. I remember every note of it.
Other than Marian Anderson Hall, where is your favorite place to perform?
The Musikverein in Vienna, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Suntory Hall in Tokyo, and, of course, Carnegie Hall in New York.

Marian Anderson Hall
Honoring an Artistic and Civil Rights Icon
On Saturday, June 8, 2024, Verizon Hall at the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts was officially rededicated as Marian Anderson Hall, home of The Philadelphia Orchestra, in honor of the legendary contralto, civil rights icon, and Philadelphian.
In naming our hall after Marian Anderson, we make very visible and very real our commitment to the ideals by which she lived her life: equity, justice, freedom, and the belief that the arts are for everyone.
