We are delighted to share our 2023–24 season, full of extraordinary artistic experiences, blockbuster shows, and countless ways to celebrate the transformative power of the arts together. We hope you will join us on the Kimmel Cultural Campus as we continue to create a unique, inclusive, and multi-faceted home for the performing arts.
This season, the GRAMMY-winning Philadelphia Orchestra takes us on a musical journey of discovery, beauty, and inspiration, led by Music and Artistic Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Broadway enlivens Broad Street with new hits, popular revivals, and beloved classics. Families can enjoy performances tailored to the youngest arts lovers. And we’ve taken care to assemble an array of presentations from jazz and rock to comedy and pop. Plus, we are proud to be the home of acclaimed Resident Companies, each presenting work that reflects the diversity and vibrancy of our city.
If you have yet to visit Garces Trading Company at Kimmel, we invite you to stop by the café inside the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts for a coffee, sandwich or salad, or pre- and post-show cocktails. Open daily, this onsite dining experience provides the perfect reason to come early and stay late!
Mark your calendars for our annual Philadelphia Fall Arts Fest on Saturday, September 23. This free festival kicks off our season in spectacular fashion, alongside more than 50 arts and culture organizations from across the region. Immerse yourself in all that Philadelphia’s arts community has to offer! We can’t wait for you to experience the magic on our stages and in our venues all season long.
With warmest best wishes,

Where were you born?
I was born in Tacoma Park, MD.
What piece of music could you play over and over again?
Anything by Richard Strauss.
Tell us about your instrument. I have many violins that I bring to work and rotate from week to week. My husband is an aspiring “collector” and is fascinated with the centuries of luthiers and the tonal differences among the various violin schools. I am his “tester!”
What’s in your instrument case?
The usual: two bows, rosin, extra pencils, extra mutes, shoulder rest, hair ties, violin cloth to wipe rosin dust, humidifiers, and tons of extra strings.
If you could ask one composer one question what would it be?
J.S. Bach: Did it concern you that many passages in the solo sonatas and partitas would be quite awkward to play on the violin because it was not a keyboard instrument?
Do you speak any other languages? Japanese. I can get around Japan with it but I can’t converse like a college grad!
Is there a piece of music that isn’t in the standard orchestral repertoire that should be?
Dvořák’s Violin Concerto. It’s never programmed as often as the other Romantic concertos and it has a gorgeous slow movement. Dvořák wrote the best melodies!
We are proud to provide classical, jazz, and musical theater education programs to thousands of students across the Philadelphia region and around the globe.
–Student in Jazz4Freedom program, St.
Other than Verizon Hall, where is your favorite place to perform?
I absolutely love playing on stage at Carnegie Hall! Every time we perform there, I hear details in the music that I don’t hear so readily elsewhere. The Musikverein in Vienna is my favorite in Europe. The best concert halls not only sound superb but feel magical at the same time.
FREE arts education programs that serve 50k students annually!
What piece of music never fails to move you?
“The Fairy Garden” from Maurice Ravel’s Mother Goose. It always makes me a bit misty onstage.
When did you join the Orchestra?
January 2008.

The Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia’s 2023–24 season is built on pieces composed by some of your favorites like Beethoven, Mozart, and Bach, created specifically to display their own prodigious talents as virtuosic soloists and conductors. From the magnetic energy of Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 1 to the acrobatic joy of Shostakovich’s Concerto for Piano, Trumpet, and Strings, you’ll hear music that not only held special significance for the composers but also featured those composers as premiere soloists in the concert hall. Through each concert in this season, the impressive physicality of these works, made even more vivid by the intimate, personal experience of chamber orchestra performance, will resurrect the spirit of these great artists and deepen your connection to their lives and their music.
