Solice

Solace is more than a home, it is a sacred space that is a symbol of regeneration. A home inspired by indigenous based design philosophies by utilizing the flexibility, resilience and elegance of bamboo to create a connection with our great Mother Nature. Solace is a starting point that allows navigation towards a better future for generation to come, igniting hope, tranquility, and peace.

Through use of engineered and treated bamboo the materiality is designed to preserve the natural beauty of raw bamboo. Interior gardens, retractable bamboo curtain walls, and trees that shoot through each story of the home , is a reminder of our connection to nature. The open floor plane, curtain walls and minimalistic design create an adaptive space that allowsthe spontaneity of hosting small dinner party, community engagement while also transforming curtain walls to create opportunity for refuge, creativity, and rest.

This kind of approach can providea healthy, safe, affordable luxurious bamboo home options. Bamboo is considered nonpolluting, earthquake & hurricane resistant, fast-growing, durable, sustainable, and accessible.

WILL THIS PROVIDE FOR COMMUNITY & STUDENTS?

Through exploration of various types of Pedagody, I was able to set a couple of goals and design intent that I wanted to include in the children’s learning journey. Since the site has a very steep slope, I believed interacting with the environment was the best way to allow the freedom of learning wihtout boarders. Though the kid’s are their own teachers, there are teachers who supervise and help the child learn and act as a partner that guides them in their explorations.

DESIGN INTENT

Various elements of design were used to further engage the child such as: stained glass, reconfigurable furnitures, landscaping, and the use of a tensile net that allows the space to become one big playgorund.

Grammercy Park co-op

Jane Kim Architect I Jan 2022 - July 2022

A 1,400SF post-war Gramercy apartment was modernized with warm finishes to create an inviting home. The main hallway was widened and lined with a bookshelf to improve circulation and create views to the outside. The hallway became a room in and of itself to spend time in with books and objects.

The kitchen was expanded with custom millwork into the dining area with an integrated seating nook. Unique pink quartzite stone gives warmth to the modern kitchen. Bathrooms were designed with custom millwork to maximize the functionality of the compact spaces.

Chelsea Penthouse

A 1,200SF Chelsea penthouse that is currently being renovated to display a new beautiful custom made kitchen with a large island at center of it and a long white oak witting bench along the back wall of the living room to provide more storage and a spacious dining area.

A unique detail added to this project was a simple 1/8” reveal along the base of all walls throughout the entire penthouse for a more modern look.

Working closely with the client and revising some design decisions has allowed for this project to be complretely peronalized for the user and maintain flexibility of space for future owners.

Fifth Ave Apartment

A 700SF studio apartment on Fifth Ave that is currently being renovated to create a more spacious layout for a more flexible use.

We have worked with this client before on his apartment but this time this studio will be used as a guest apartment for when his mom or other firends come to visit. Having this in mind, we wanted to open the space to allow the natural light from the living room and bedroom windows to come in, as well as also include a nice and cozy library by the dining area to be bale to be used as a work-from-home space.

New additions to the floor plan include a laundry room and an extended custom made kitchen with plate display cabinets at the end, and a big sliding door by the small bedroom to allow the illusion of a bigger space once the door is pocketed into the wall.
