“How lucky are we to call this place home,” Scott Ripmaster stated when discussing his love for the Boulder area. Originally a Michigan native, Scott found himself moving to Colorado to attend the University of Colorado. While obtaining a communications degree, he found himself falling in love with the Colorado lifestyle. Upon graduation and a move to Telluride, allowed him to find his true passion in life, which would lead to a career in real estate.

For the past sixteen years, Scott has built himself a successful portfolio while working for his family-owned real estate, Colorado Landmark, Realtors. Founded by his uncle in 1977 and has been an integral part of Landmark’s success over the past sixteen years. He has not only grown a close relationship with his uncle, but it has also connected him closer to his roots. He remembers his

grandfather telling him when he was younger, “A salesperson is only as good as their product, and we have the best product in the world.” In turn, this motto has been engrained throughout his career. Not only has he been able to help his clients find their dream homes, but he has also been able to showcase the beauty of his city.

“The quality of life here is booming, and many people are seeing Boulder as a new tech home area,” states Scott.

As a residential real estate agent, he loves the “people” aspect of real estate.

His extroverted personality has even allowed him to form lifelong relationships with his clients, especially after the sale. He prides his success on being able to provide for his family and knowing he gave each of his clients his all, every time!

One thing he would change about real estate is the idea that it is a tech business. Real estate is still very much a client-based industry, and those relationships will always serve the clients the most, it is what they expect from realtors and what Scott does best. “Tech tools for the agents to stay organized,” but the real secret is perfecting hands-on, heartfelt, honest hard work that makes the transactions work.

Scott is an expert in getting things done, especially over that “last mile” of each transaction. He even stated that during COVID he faced some difficulties not being able to see a client face-to-face. He missed the random acts of kindness and even seeing the client’s smile. However, Scott was able to handle these hurdles in stride. In today’s market, Scott advises purchasing as soon as possible since homes have record yearly appreciation. He also wants buyers to give real estate their best shot. He has seen a trend where buyers want to give up too soon. He advises against this since it is important to keep persevering. Persevering and working with a realtor who is invested will not only make the process easier but will make the home purchasing or selling process seamless.

One of his favorite properties he has presented is 780 Grant Place near Chautauqua Park in Boulder. This is one of Boulder’s largest

parks and it is known for its gorgeous landscapes. With a beautiful view of our flatirons. Scott has always had a love for this Chautauqua Park, and he loves seeing new generations experience its beauty for the first time. During his free time, Scott is an avid trail-runner and marathon runner. He enjoys running for the peace and tranquility one receives. He is also an avid snowboarder, skier, and fly-fisherman. When he is not actively working, he enjoys spending time with his wife and their two young children.

The University of Colorado, located in nearby Boulder, has over 27,000 undergraduate students and accepts over 84% of students who apply to the school. A majority of the students are male with 45% coming from out of state with over triple the tuition costs of in-state students. There is a tuition guarantee for admitted students. In 2020, the average freshman student profile (for those providing test scores) had an average ACT score of 28 or an average SAT score of 1240, and an average high school GPA of 3.67. The most popular majors for CU students are business, biological and life sciences, engineering, social sciences, communication, psychology, physics, and music. CU has seven schools or programs to apply to, all with varying entrance standards and requirements.

Qualified undergraduates can receive merit scholarships worth an average of $9,000. CU does allow an “open option” or basically an undeclared major to allow students the time to explore different fields of study and has over 100 majors and 50 minors to choose from. The school also offers more than 30 concurrent five-year combined bachelor’s and master’s degree programs and an undergraduate research opportunities program.

If you are on public water, then no concern is necessary. If you have a well, however, you may be at risk. The amount of radon in your water supply depends on your location, so it would be a good idea to have your water tested. If your well water tests high, there are mitigation systems available.

What is radon? Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is colorless and odorless and formed from uranium decay. It is found in soil, rocks, water, and air and is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, causing approximately 21,000 cases each year.

How often should you have your home tested?

The EPA recommends testing after any lifestyle changes, renovations, buying a new home, and every two years as part of your home maintenance program.

Radon can enter your home in several ways, and it can get in from cracks in the foundation, holes around pipes, or water from wells. Once inside your home, it is trapped, and levels can start to rise.

Some measures can be taken to slow down the rate of radon getting into your house, such as sealing cracks in the foundation, walls, and floors and increasing the airflow through your house by opening windows and using fans and vents to circulate air. However, this is a temporary measure in most parts of the country. You can ask for radon-resistant construction in a new build or install a mitigation system in existing homes for a more effective and long-lasting solution.
