& MEET DENNIS VINH

Evan Lam and Dennis Vinh pride themselves on their unique approach to real estate. The two met in 2016 when they were working for the same brokerage and quickly realized they had a similar business philosophy. After the brokerage they worked for was purchased by a national firm, the focus changed from real estate to recruitment, so Evan and Dennis decided to partner together so they could offer their clients the type of service that came naturally to both of them. In 2019, they founded Colorado Key Properties and haven’t looked back since.

Dennis shares, “Evan and I operate in real estate differently than I’ve seen other people; we love customizing how we approach our business to each individual client. We could produce more sales if we had a more systematic way of going about business but we don’t think that’s necessarily the best approach, so we’re always willing to spend extra time and think outside the box to make sure every client has the best result.” Evan agrees, sharing, “We don’t really focus on how much money we can make, which is a huge difference in how we do business. We’re happy with our income, but it’s not the primary driver of what we do. Our focus is on creating a service that people rave about; we believe in quality over quantity. We would both turn down business to avoid overextending ourselves before we’d give up the quality of our service.”

Evan was born in Hawaii and moved to Boulder with his family when he was nine. Dennis grew up in Westminster and moved to Boulder in 2004 to attend the University of Colorado. Evan was inspired by his uncle to get into real estate in 2008. “He was a real estate agent and a

firefighter, and he had a lifestyle that was inspiring to me. I liked the idea of real estate because you can choose your own destiny and you’re not limited by what a company pays or the services you can offer.” Dennis began working in restaurants as a teenager and continued after college, but helping manage his parent’s investment portfolio inspired him to go into real estate in 2015.

Evan and Dennis enjoy showing their clients how real estate can be accessible for everyone. Evan

shares, “I love working with first time buyers, since a lot of people we work with don’t realize home ownership is something they can participate in. I’m also an investor myself, so I enjoy helping people make investor-minded decisions.”

Dennis echoes Evan’s sentiments, “That’s exactly how I feel. I really enjoy doing the first sale for clients, because that’s when they see the reward of their actions and investments and the ability to grow their portfolio and live a better life.”

One of the aspects most important to Evan and Dennis is being able to customize their real estate deals. They both feel strongly that what they do is not a “one size fits all” approach. Recently, Dennis worked with clients on a complicated transaction selling two condos and purchasing a replacement property. The end property was an old 1900s farmhouse in Niwot, which had been owned by one family, so not much was known about the property. Dennis’ clients had grand ideas for what they wanted, which required a lot of extra steps from getting surveys to talking with mineral, oil and gas lawyers to working with the county and city. “Overall, all three deals took about six months, and we didn’t know if everything was going to work out until the week before it went through. It was fun and complicated and completely out of the norm.”

Another unique aspect to their partnership is that even though Evan and Dennis have their own clients, they talk every day and know about each other’s clients. Evan shares, “We’re constantly going back and forth with each other, and it’s nice for our clients because we’re very similar people.” Before they started their own brokerage, Evan

was on a rock-climbing trip to Greece when he got an email from a client. “I began replying and before I could hit send, Dennis responded to the client exactly what I had already typed. At that moment, I knew I could enjoy the rest of my vacation, knowing my clients would be taken care of.” Dennis adds, “Even though Evan and I built our real estate careers independently of one other, we saw teaming up as a benefit to our clients. Every real estate deal is so different and this way they get twice the perspective, resources and contacts.”

When asked what advice they would give to new agents, Evan and Dennis share, “Don’t mistake activity for productivity. It’s easy to have a full day when you’re starting, but new agents often avoid the most important part, which is talking to potential buyers and sellers. They’re often terrified they won’t know what to do or say, so they want to be fully prepared before any opportunity comes across their desk. It’s impossible to do this because you’re never going to have all the answers.” They also share that “Real estate isn’t a job, it’s a lifestyle. Every conversation could lead to another transaction so you should be willing to have a conversation anywhere because that conversation could lead to your best client for the next decade.”

In his free time, Evan enjoys spending time with his family, traveling internationally and all of the Colorado outdoor activities, especially rock climbing. He also loves “geeking out” on the MLS and studying the market and can often be found late at night searching properties all over the country. He is passionate about supporting people recovering from addiction and donates time and resources to Phoenix Multi Sport. Dennis enjoys spending time with his wife Heidi and lab mix Charlie and is looking forward to

ing the city through food. He recently served on the board of the Harvey Park Community Organization’s scholarship committee which focused on micro scholarships for kids within the Harvey Park Neighborhood.

Customer service and always going above and beyond are at the heart of what Evan and Dennis do best. “We are very accessible, extremely flexible and have a hard time saying no to things, which is part of what makes us so good.” They’ve helped clients move, gone on the roof to wash windows and shoveled snow, amongst other things.

“So much of what we do isn’t just to get a sale. We truly enjoy time spent with our clients, and once they’re our clients, they become our family.”

As a first-time home seller, I was naturally overwhelmed at the prospect of selling my largest investment and uprooting all of my things. My concerns were elevated by market uncertainty being in a highly seasonal geographic market and in a rising interest rate environment. That being said, my experience could not have gone any better with anyone other than Dennis Vinh. Dennis was realistic about expectations, but aggressive in marketing my home to ensure the best possible outcome. His prompt communication and solid expertise assuaged all my concerns at every step. I am glad that I took Dennis' advice on listing preparation and staging because my home was under contract with two offers above the list price in less than 24 hours! Dennis was firm and attentive in the negotiation process, both advocating for my interests and ensuring a swift closing. I will certainly utilize his services in the future. Everyone wins with Vinh!

As a first time home buyer in a competitive buyers market, Dennis was the perfect agent! He was flexible with my many requests, patient with my lack of experience and indecisiveness, worked as an excellent liason between myself and the sellers and helped me get exactly what I needed for a great price on an intimidating market for buyers. Very knowledgeable with the area and his craft as an agent. He made me feel comfortable and informed making such a big change in my life as a first time buyer.

Evan is a pleasure to work with. He has helped me buy and sell a home. On both ends he leaves nothing out! He is very efficient on keeping you up to date throughout the whole process. He is also very honest and straight forward with his professional opinion. Whether that is in regards to the reality of what you want from listing your property all the way to what he believes is the best fit for you on the purchasing end of things. Again, It's a pleasure to work with Evan and I would recommend him to anyone I know that needs assistance in the world of real estate!

Evan is extremely professional and knowledgable yet comes across as very personable and as someone who is truly looking out for your best interest. Throughout the process of selling our home he continually kept in touch letting my wife and I know the latest without us having to bug him for status updates. Ultimately marketing and the final sale price is what truly matters and that is where he hit it out of the park. He took our property on at the 11th hour and worked his magic to include physically knocking on doors and got us multiple offers way over what we ever imagined and ended up closing for $20k more than asking price. I don’t write reviews often but without hesitation Evan is our new go to guy in real estate! We've referred him to a few people already and he's now helping my parents find their dream home in the front range.
