What is a Bespoke Kitchen and How You can Create One? ‘Bespoke’ is a word you will often see pop up here and there. The term originated from 17th-18th century England when master tailors created made-to-order products for the elite clients. They tailored the outfits to their clients specifically and followed certain requests. As a result, the upper class stood out from the rest, thanks to these made-to-order goods. Nowadays, bespoke is often associated with kitchens, as in kitchens that have been tailored to your preferences. But unlike the past few centuries, a bespoke kitchen is much more accessible and much more widespread. That is because people are going after kitchen ideas and concepts that define their interests and serve their way of life. If that sounds intriguing to you and you feel like a bespoke kitchen would fit right in your home, then you will have to consider a few ways to achieve such effect. While creating your bespoke kitchen won’t have the same effect, there are a few things you should consider that can still help you achieve what you want with the place. Here is a quick rundown: 

Start with the most important – kitchen cabinets – if there is one thing in the kitchen that stands out in quantity, it is the cabinets. Even in a small kitchen, where space is limited, it is the cabinets that take most of the available area. That is because this part of the kitchen defines its very use. Therefore, kitchen designers all agree that investing in good kitchen cabinets is probably the best thing you can do. Cabinets are timely and they always contribute the most with their style and presence. That is why it is fully possible to build your kitchen around this part of it and the result will always be a fantastic one.

Where can you use a tile – long gone are the days when the only tiled surface in the kitchen would be the backsplash. Nowadays, bespoke kitchen designers think outside the box and don’t confine themselves with tiles only in the backsplash. Tiles are particularly popular with bespoke kitchens, especially when it comes to the flooring. You will often see a simple backsplash transformed with chevron or arabesque styles. Sometimes people also go with custom hand-painted patterns for a truly unique touch in the kitchen, so that is another thing to consider.

Light fixtures make all the difference – when it comes to kitchen lighting, you can browse from numerous options and have them delivered/installed whenever you wish. This makes it very easy to get the most of this aspect of the place. Make sure you check some estate sales, kitchen lighting distributors and home boutiques for the lighting options that best fit your needs and preferences.

Catering to your passions – a bespoke kitchen would hardly deserve its title if it didn’t feature things that cater to your hobbies and way of using the place. For instance, if you love baking, perhaps you will be interested in getting a steam oven. If you are into fixing up various cocktails and beverages, then a station that supports all your tools and ingredients is something you should get. That is just the beauty of bespoke kitchens – you can add whatever interests you and get the place to fit your way of life and your hobbies. That is not something that comes easy with a kitchen that comes off the shelf.

Evidently, a bespoke kitchen is something you should consider. It will not only make the place your favourite room in the home but also serve you well over the years. © K&I Kitchens
