NCS Highlights

Since November our winter athletes have put a tremendous amount of time and energy into their respective sports. In recent weeks their hard work has paid off with impressive post-season results. Hightlights below from recent competitions: …Both Varsity Basketball Teams earned exciting 1st and 2nd round wins in sectional competitions. …Brendon DeClerck and Chloe Louthan-Green placed 3rd in Varsity Alpine Ski Sectionals. …Phil Hall took 1st Place (Class C Doubles) and Hendrik Huber took 1st Place (Class C Singles) in the Varsity Bowling Singles/Doubles Tournament. …Dane Hoselton, Chad Plante, Kyle Pridmore, and Connor Kansco brought home sectional championships in Varsity Swimming. …And finally, Dane Hoselton will be representing Naples at the New York State Meet for Swimming!

Kyle Johnson Signs Letter of Intent with Mercyhurst University “Friends, family, staff, and media gathered on the afternoon of Monday, February 10, 2014, to witness Kyle Johnson sign his letter of intent to attend Mercyhurst University, where he will be playing soccer on partial scholarship starting this fall. The signing ceremony, which took place in the Naples High School Library Conference Room, was the culmination of a storied career for Kyle during which he earned several recognitions while playing for the Big Green. Congratulations Kyle and best of luck at Mercyhurst!

Student Running Club Proposed by Mrs. Betrus

Each year students run the St. J’s 5K for their Physical Education classes in the High School. In order to help students prepare for the event and increase their fitness levels, Mrs. Betrus and the District Wellness Committee have created a Student Running Club.Club activities would involve chaperoned cross country runs in and around Naples three times a week, including short (maintenance runs) on Tuesdays and Thursdays and longer progressive runs on Saturday mornings. Our main goal would be to get students ready to run the Naples St. Js 5k with the option to run another 5k or even 10k race locally in May or June. We look forward to moving forward with this new club. Mobile Food Pantry - Prattsburgh Third Thursday of Each Month from 10:00am-11:00am : Mar. 20, Apr. 17, Jun. 19, Jul. 17, Aug. 21, Sep. 18, Oct. 16, Nov. 20, Dec. 18 St. Patrick’s Church Parking Lot 47 Main Street, Prattsburgh NY

For the second year in a row the Mobile Food Pantry Truck from the Southern Tier Food Bank will be serving the rural area surrounding Prattsburgh. The converted 35 foot beverage truck transports 15,000 pounds of fresh products, nutritious foods, and grocery items for distribution in locations sometimes called, “food deserts.” These are rural areas where residents must travel several miles to a super market or food pantry. Such locations tend to have senior populations who can access this service. Low to moderate income families and individuals are invited to participate. Please bring your own bags and boxes. In 2013, the project sponsored by St. Patrick’s Church with local volunteers served 1,171 households and 3,045 people.The Southern Tier Food Bank is a regional agency of Catholic Charities and a member of “Feeding America.” The program designed to assist the hungry will continue on the third Thursday of every month from 10:00am-11:00am through the end of the year. Naples Healing Arts Center

by Michelle Wright Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) therapies have gained popularity in America in recent decades, but primarily in larger cities where diversity is the norm Michelle Wright and Greta Selin-Love and access to CAM healthcare is a matter of a quick walk, train or bus ride. Recent research has verified that many CAM therapies are extremely effective and are much more than spa services – they treat diseases and pain with safe, effective techniques that are free of harmful side effects. Here in Naples, our small community has exposure and access to big-city CAM healthcare within a few short steps of Naples’ Main Street.

Naples Healing Arts Center (NHAC), located at 19 Mill Street, currently offers two such opportunities at a 100% handicapped accessible location. Naples Valley Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine has been serving the community since 2010, and Finger Lakes Natural Health has been offering Licensed Massage Therapy to the community for an impressive 20 years. Starting out as two separate businesses just “sharing space”, the practitioners at NHAC have grown as friends and collaborative professionals who provide a wide array of services to the people of Naples and surrounding communities.

Naples Valley Acupuncture

Michelle Wright, owner of Naples Valley Acupuncture, is a Licensed Acupuncturist and nationally board certified Herbalist specializing in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). She graduated in 2010 with dual Masters’ Degrees from the Finger Lakes School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, a nationally accredited school located at New York Chiropractic College.

TCM is a multi-faceted, holistic paradigm of medicine that includes both acupuncture and herbal medicine. Individual symptoms are never looked at in isolation, but as part of a whole picture of a person, in which patterns have been identified, labeled, and effectively treated according to a 5000-year-old foundation of medical theory that has been largely unchanged throughout the centuries. Finger Lakes Natural Health

Greta Selin-Love, Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) and owner of Finger Lakes Natural Health (FLNH), graduated in 1994 from the Florida School of Massage and Hydrotherapy in Gainesville, FL and has been practicing in Naples ever since. As the first licensed massage therapist to open a practice here in Naples, Greta helped educate the community on the benefits of massage and paved the way for other complimentary care modalities. Greta thoroughly enjoys the longstanding relationships she has developed and nurtured with members of the Naples and surrounding community through the years.
