Jerusalem ?

At a meeting some years ago to discuss residential development of land at Great Glen, there was much vocal opposition to which prompted the then Chairman of Great Glen Parish Council, Fraser Gilbert, to remark that had such an opposing viewbeen taken on a previous occasion, the present objectors might not have had their“des res“ houses erected and thence not hayve enjoyed their present environment: In other words the not in my back yard“「view whenever development of green field sites is proposed, can be highly selfish,Kibworth residents (KKR or nob) must all beware less this view takes a nasty grip. The much more positive view is the one which seems to be uppermost in peoples「“ minds at that Kibworth is likely, very likely, to have some growth but that that growth be matched by input from developers, public bodies, District and County level, transport authorities and so on. Further, that growth be limited to what the community and road systems can accommodate. These views seem fairly acceptable to most local But history, local history, teaches us that the deciding factor for Kibworths population size in two decades will be the size of the developer「s bank statements at the present time. There seems little doubt that large consortia and national chains are fully aware of what Kibworth has to offer them and have sent out their scouts to spy out the land. Moses did that, but not with thick cheque books. It is therefore of immense importance that every resident takes an active part in the six week public consultation period that has just begun. It is a crucial time in the history of this village (or rather villages). The pessimist should, again, follow the example of Moses who didn“t countenance failure:.YOU can make a difference and your submission to the Planning Officer during this six week period is of vital importance、No views you may have written in the previous consultation period hold any weight this time. It is a clean sheet、MNone of the 1,000 or so objections count this time. They may have to be forwarded again.

AND WHAT ARE LOCAL RESIDENTS OBJECTING AGAINST?2 That is up to each reader to decide、The Chronicle is aligned neither to KKR, the Tory Party, the Monster Raving Loonies nor any other ism.、We just give you the background facts against which you make your own point of view. The facts appear to be; 1. That land proposed for housing off the Warwick Road has no natural boundary but the railway line, which area would accommodate far more than the 550 properties proposed. 2. That the major landowner in this area has been invited in writing to comment through this paper, but has not yet taken up the offer. 3 That HDC have agreed not to allow anything short of two way traffic across the railway line on Warwick Road and the Present structures and sub soil would not thus be able to carry a bridge suitable to take through traffic from Fleckney to the A6. But a developer would invest the minimum in this problem. 4 That a major supermarket chain appear extremely interested in land north of Warwick Road. 3. That properties in this area have recently been sold or put up for sale. 6. That Kibworth Cricket Club「s long desire to sell their ground on Fleckney Road appears to have been realised。 The sale agreement allows developers to move on to it in three years time. 7. That 王 millions (sic) have been offered for land in an area, at Present outside the local plan proposal site. 8.、That development on the Smeeton Road Rec (whilst off the books at present) could raise it「s head again if a developer saw itas infilling after building on the cricket field site. 9.That no major practical benefit has come from any developer to either Kibworth during the recent decades of expansion. We have given, they have received. 10. A possible Community Hall has been wrecked, whilst authorities have stood by ruled by red tape. 11. That a listed property, again owned by the County Council on our behalf, stands close to decay and ruin. 12.Not a penny has yet come from the District Council, who it is difficult to remember ever saying no to a major developer「s Tequest in this authority“s area. 13. Our M.P. may be deserting us if he follows a large number of Harborough constituents into the Rutland seat. He has been asked fora comment, but one has not yet arrived.
