It may come as a surprise to many students at Kibworth High School and visitors to the Community College that our modest caretaker, Jess 0wen,, has been hiding his 1ight under a bushel,as the saying goes! “Until five years ago Jess was a full-time professional entertainer, singing with a band, mostly in ,country and western“style.。 He appeared, and won, on ,New Faces“on television in the 70「s and subsequently had a recording contract with United Artists.。 He has appeared in many theatres , including those in Weymouth and Brighton and at the Winter Gardens in Bournemouth. Possibly with a desire for a quieter 1ife,Jess took a job as a schoo1 caretaker and then transferred to Kibworth- High School, where an attractive bungalow went with the job. However, after a few years away from ,show biz“「“ ,Jess began to fee1 that he would 1ike to use his talents again and has,in recent years, been singing at various local dances and concerts。 Eventually Jess got together with two old friends,Rob Woodward of Coventry,a guitarist who has a recording studio, and Paul Turnbul1l of Hinckley,to form a group Called the “Caretakers「“ 。 After seeing an advertisement in ,The Stage「 ,they applied for an audition to take part in the Sky Television talent Show called “5ky 「Star Search「 。 The “audition wil1 be in London on 10th June and Jess and his group wil11 be performing a comedy number in hil1billy style called “Speedy Gonzalez「 .
