Following the Kibworth High School「s decision to change the usage of the Sneeton Road Drama Studio,the Kibworth Community Centre Drama Group discovered it would soon be homeless. This vˇibrant group _of Thespians have been presenting musical shows , Pantomimes and plays , to an ever increasing public for over 15 years . Investigations were carried out to find a venue in Kibworth but to no avail 。 So, they started to 1ook towards the outlying villages. Soon a meeting was arranged between the Drama _Group “_and “the “_Great Glen Village Hall Committee.、 The Great Glen Village Hall and the Kibworth Drama Group have now become partnersl I am sure the “marriage「 Wil1 be a great success . Fred「s Wife, Phy11lis, was working Todd 「s Bakery in Market After Fred retired from the railway, he first worked in the canteen at “_Harborough “Joinery and then he also went to work at Todd「s as a delivery man。 In his leisure time, Fred enjoyed entertaining and was an enthusiastic member of the Kettering Male Voice Choir and 0pera Company.、。 He sang in a quartette at the Eisteddfod held at O0undle and _achieved the “_highest maIrks . He also took part in a Concert Party with his Nife acting as pianist. Fred _and Phyllis “had three children; a son, Bruce, who was a Detective Constable in the Leicester Police force and sad1y died at the age of 32; and two daughters ,Pauline and Peggy,noW both passed aWway、。 So, Fred survives and has outlived all his family but he is blessed with many 《riends, as evidenced by his 8grand display of birthday cards ,and his old colleagues often drop in for He considers“ˇhimself very fortunate in having some wonderful ! neighbours , who keep _a constant friendly eye on hinm and show great 皋 0 C 孝 标 Welfare . We Send OUT good wishes and congratulations “_to “_a “_grand .old gentleman, Fred _Cowley “of Cottages, East Langton, Who, being born in 1903, celebrated his 90th birthday 1ast month. Old though he might be in years,yet he is stil1 young at heart.、。 His face 1ights up and his eyes twyinkle as he speaks of his mnischievous boyhood games and the tricks that he and his friends used to play. “「We never harmed anyone「 says Fred,but we had a lot of fun「 . Life was hard in those ear1y years of the _century and a half~penny earned by picking up “bucketsful of stones from a farmer「s field would be enough to buy a handful of boiled sweets , Wrapped in a tyist of newspaper. Fred was born and bred in Kettering and 1left school at 13 to work in the Corop Boot Factory from 7.30am to 6pm. From there he went to Munn 又 Felton「s Boot Factory as foreman of the Finishing Room and f《rom there to the Bata factory at Tilbury. During the war he _joined the 《irm 「s 《ire brigade,serving at the oil refinery at Purfleet,during which time he Was “blown _up“「 _on “two occasions 。 The experience he gained over this period led hin to return to Kettering after the war and join the Fire Brigade at Corby. His next career change was to be a signals and telecommunications 1ineman on the railway at Kettering and later at Market Harborough. When a railway cottage at East Langton
