Gellert Grindalwald, everyone.

He was what I would call the pioneer of the Dark Arts.

He excelled at magic and absorbed much of the strength-obsessed and Darkness-flavoured school culture at Durmstrang Instititue, but ran afoul of its rigid hierarchies.

The man behind conceptualizing ‘The Greater Good’.

The man behind the quest for the three deathly hallows.

The man behind the want to conquer the World.

The man behind the deceitful possession of the Elder wand.

The love of Dumbledore’s life.

Before Voldemort was even born, Grindalwald was on his way to lead a Wizardingrevolution to end the International Statute of Secrecy and creating a benevolent global order led by wise and powerful witches and wizards that dominated Muggles.

A true quest of world domination.

The Fantastic Beasts movie is set in the very same time frame. Where Grindalwald was searching of ways and means to gain more and more power.

He was after world domination of course and was willing to go to any length to achieve just that.

He was an amazingly dark wizard.

You ask how is this man related to Harry Potter, 70 years in the future?

Harry Potter was the boy who lived.

Harry Potter was the reason why Voldemort fell to his doom.

Harry Potter was the reason why the Chamber Of Secrets was discovered.

Harry Potter was the reason why Voldemort came back to power.

Harry Potter was the reason for disarming Malfoy in the Malfoy Manor.

The rightful owner of the Elder Wand , the same wand that casted dark and deranged spells by none other than Grindalwald himself.

Yes, Grindalwald was Harry’ past.

Of how he came in possession of the most powerful wand.

Of how he caused mass destruction with that very wand.

Of how he was defeated by the great Albus Dumbledore.

Of how he lost possession of the wand to Albus Dumbledore.

How he made Dumbledore the most powerful wizard.
