Dordrecht Stadspark XXL Ex-Macello Redesign Hoofddorp Stationsgebied Ponticelli Under the Volcano Ruimtelijke Studie Binckhorst

I am writing this letter to introduce myself and to express my motivation for working in your office and gaining experience and face new challenges to fully expand and evaluate my skills and passion in professional career.

Firstly, having the experience of working in two different offices in two different offices in Netherlands (Flux Landscape architecture and Basic City Office) for one year and previously in Massimo Novati’s office in Italy, has made me capable of dealing with various urban and landscape issues by deep analysis of the situation, proposing ideas and visualization techniques..

Secondly, thanks to my Urban Planning bachelor and Landscape Design master’s degree from Politecnico di Milano, my studies have been in the multidisciplinary aspects of urban and landscape. Therefore, I have gained various skills in decision making, mapping, drawing, modelling, and presenting. The tools which contribute to them are mostly QGIS, Adobe Creative Suite, Sketchup, Enscape, Rhino, and Microsoft Office.

Besides, the scopes of the researches I had, demonstrates my interest in widening my knowledge in various fields. Having done a paper in environmental geochemistry filed entitled “Combined GIS-experimental evaluation and fate mapping of heavy metal contaminations at Lambro River basin, Italy” and my thesis project entitled “Post-Covid Ex-Macello: Optimization and Modification Implying Integrated Modification Methodology” are to name a few.

Furthermore, working in groups with different numbers of people during my university and at work, has improved my cooperation skills. As communication plays an important role in group works, I have always been open to learn new helpful languages (like Dutch). Being fluent in English has always been of use.

It would be a great opportunity for me to be part of your team due to the compatibility of my knowledge and abilities with your requirements. My portfolio and resume, enclosed herewith for your consideration, includes additional information on my experience and skills. I hope you will take this letter as a sincere proof of my interest and motivation to work in this firm.

Lastly, I have the work permit for working in Netherlands and there is no need for further applications and bureaucratic works.

Dordrecht, Netherlands, 2022-2023

Increasingly, Dutch people exercise outside, not tied to a sports’ club. Walking, running, sport cycling, in-line skating and boot camps are among the most common forms of ‘disorganized’ or ‘differently organized’ outdoor sports. The municipality of Dordrecht recognizes the importance of this trend and is directed to get the interests of outdoor athletes on the agenda.

The aim of this project is to translate the insights into spatial wishes and use of space into concrete opportunities to make the outdoor space more attractive for outdoor sports enthusiasts. Therefore, a city-scale park was asked to be designed, in a way to increase the liveability of the area from various separated sport fields into a united park which attracts not only the athletes to stay in the area and mingle, but also pedestrians and cyclists to choose it as a destination.

Hoofddorp, Netherlands, 2022-2023

Hoofddorp is about to enter a new phase. Because it was still a small polder village until the 1960s. But from 1970, Hoofddorp has developed as a growth center, and the number of inhabitants rose from 9,000 to 73,000 in 40 years. Characteristically, this rapid growth took place on the outskirts of Hoofddorp, with a strict separation between living and working. Now we introduce the third development phase. We plan to redevelop or even repurpose the existing areas of Hoofddorp. Think of the offices in Beukenhorst, which may be a great place for apartments. The development of Hoofddorp will therefore not stop, but will be more controlled and continued within the built-up area. At the same time, we can make Hoofddorp much more sustainable.

But building houses in the existing core will not get you there. We also want to make Hoofddorp a lively, sustainable and easily accessible city. You can read about how we intend to do this in this partial structure vision.

• The images indicated by “for presentation”, are the ones done by my colleagues, but are placed here for better understanding the project.

Basic City Office

The Hague, Netherlands, 2021

This study of the Maanweg and Zonweg concerns a spatial exploration of both profiles. The two streets are located in the Binckhorst and fall under the current environmental plan for the Binckhorst. Both streets are part of the Binckhorst environmental plan pilot, from which the renewal will (partly) be paid for and both profiles are also possible HOV routes from the MIRT. The study of the Zonweg and Maanweg should result in a number of (spatial) scenarios for how these profiles can be renewed with or with-out HOV (MIRT routes). The scenarios visualize the complexity of the situation and make it possible to make an integral assessment between the various aspects that play a role in the renewal of the profiles.

The study aims to develop a broader understanding of the spatial-programmatic context in which the streets play a role. It is an integrated approach that does not only concern solving infrastructural issues. The ambition is to create a good part of the city in which a street profile is an important carrier of urban developments that determine the quality, atmosphere and image of an area.

22

Environmental vision and plan for public space

The public space plan map Binckhorst is a concluding map showing the public space network of the Binckhorst. Important ambitions that have been laid down in the map and for the Zoneweg and Maanweg are:

• Accessible for pedestrians, cyclists and cars;

• Strengthen tree structure and preserve existing trees;

• Influence of the cemetery zone on Zonweg;

• Moon Road Ecological Zone

Cables and pipes

There are pipelines in the Binckhorst with restrictions for their environment. These pipes have obstruction zones of different sizes. There are a number of heavy pipelines in the Zonweg that are not easy to move.

In this street there is a complex situation in the subsoil that influences the possibilities for renewal of the profile.

Boundaries: properties and ecological zone

Within the study area a number of plots are privately owned. The majority of the plots is municipal land, including leasehold situations with existing users. These ownership situations affect the use of space in the new profiles of the Zonweg and Maanweg. Another hard limit is the ecological zone on the south side of Maanweg

Developments and existing buildings

There are a number of plots on Zonweg and Maanweg that will be redeveloped. Such as the HAC location and the Hallen on the Zonweg and the master plan of Posad Maxwan on the Maanweg.

In addition, existing buildings and users that have already been transformed (the KPN cluster), may be transformed or will remain in use (the Haagse Veste). These situations affect the renewal options of the Zonweg and Maanweg

This project is trying to demonstrate a more sustainable method than urban sprawl for future urban developments, and taking as a prototype for retrofitting and optimization, the former slaughterhouse of the city of Milan, Ex Macello to imply the rules of Integrated Modification Methodology, or shortly, IMM. It is a fully integrated four-phase design process and a set of guiding Design Ordering Principles to trans-form an existing urban context into a more sustainable one. The main four steps are Diagnostics, For-mulation, Transformation, and Retrofitting. QGIS was the software used in Diagnostics and Retrofitting stages. Regenerating the area alongside with some other areas in the city was part of a C40 competition named Reinventing Cities, which was initiated to stimulate ambitious carbon-neutral developments. The DOPs, correlated with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), defined by UN Agenda 2030 are the ones chosen. SDG has 17 categories in total and SDG 11, discusses the field of study specifically: Sustainable Cities & Communities.

35

What is IMM?

IMM is the acronym of Integrated Modification Methodology, an innovative design methodology based on a specific process with the main goal of improving the CAS (complex adaptive systems) energy performance, through the modification of its constituents and optimization of the architecture of their ligands. Its approach is fundamentally Holistic, Multi-Layer, Multi-scale.

IMM methodology is based on a multi-stage process composed of four different but fully integrated phases. IMM methodology through an interconnected Phasing Design Process shows how incorporating a wide range of issues makes it possible to improve the metabolism of the city as well as its energy performance.

IMM design lab by a science based diagnostic approach provides to designers, local authorities, decision-makers, and stakeholders a full understanding on how and why urban systems perform the way they do and a decision support tool for transformation actions aligned to the UN 2030 SDGs. IMM is a tool also able to quantify the effects of modifications in the various areas by performance indicators.

-Converting the City into a Food Producer

City as a food producer contains a variety of activities that most fall under the category of greenery as well. Restaurant/café gardens produce fresh organic groceries in micro scale for the use of their kitchens as well as creating a pleasant outer space for their customers. Urban farm can contribute to production of goods needed by the neighborhood that can be sold in the farmers markets.

This not only reduces the transportation and distribution carbon footprint but is also counts as an important physical workout. Vertical farms as the future of the food production industry have also been included in the program of the ex macello building to which all the aforementioned qualities can apply.

La Marina del Prat Varmell is the area between Metal-Lurgia, Foc, Cisell and Mare de Deu del port streets. Under the metropolitan master plan amendment, this former industrial area is being turned into a new mixed-use district in which homes and businesses are perfectly compatible, making it one of the highest profile parts of Barcelona. The goal is to improve social cohesion and to recover identity of the place, preserving the existing tissue and promoting mixing of users, housing, economic and productive spaces, Also focusing on the youth of Barcelona and people vising the neighborhood with Youth center and Multi-religious space for the community. Our approach towards the design is to create a sustainable interface linking dense community living with well designed green infrastructure.

Psychogeographic Map

Our experience of space as a practiced place changes gradually as the surrounding urban environment evolves around us. An urban journey/drifting starts and ends without any predefined plan in mind, A big interactive “database” of sounds, smells, images, faces, ideas, and notions, is dispersed throughout smaller parts which all together defines the “urban puzzle”, the city.

In our case, while close observation and face-to-face communication with inhabitants was impossible, we started to make the drift map and the psychogeographic map by collecting information through official documents related to Ponticelll District, the Google Map and Google Earth pictures and searching in detail about our specific area (Parco Galeazzo).

Bioswales are useful low-impact development work to decrease the velocity of storm water runoff while removing pollutants from the discharge. They are extremely beneficial in protecting surface water and local waterways from excessive pollution from storm water runoff. The longer the runoff stays within the bioswale, the better the pollutant removal outcome. It is also beneficial in re-moving standing ponds that could potentially attract mosquito. Bioswales can also be designed to be aesthetically pleasing and attract animals and create habitats. Bioswales can also be beneficial for groundwater recharge.
