BIOGRAPHY One can safely mention that Kiana has an unquenchable thirst for learning, which may come from her perfectionism. Such a character trait makes her a multitasking person who tries to expand different dimensions of her personality.

Given her varied skill sets, Kiana Kayali often performs multiple roles on a given project she starts to design, from investigating, conceptualizing, designing 3d modeling, and the ability to resolve problems pragmatically.

With her passion for aesthetical and operational methods, her projects are a true confluence of both. Her analytical mind guides her to detailed programming for every task ranging from simple ordinary work to a dispensable design, so her disciplined character helps her meet deadlines effortlessly.

Nature and environment, her ever-concerned matter, lead her to emphasize sustainable design, particularly cultural sustainability. Kiana does not confine her mind to theoretical issues. As a designer, she indicates that she should improve her intrapersonal skills to interact with people she designs for and know their culture, behavior, and essentials.

Culture and high human values have been ignored in constructed buildings due to increased population and higher demand for housing in today’s world. On the other hand, the house cannot alone provide an optimal growth space but needs a suitable field, such as urban neighborhood and space. Therefore, in this project the fundamentals of neighborhood design, neighboring units, and houses as the smallest urban unit have been designed.

Moreover, sciences related to environment and behavior, e.g., behavioral sciences, environmental psychology and its sub-disciplines, such as ecological approach and different theories on human needs used in environment design, were investigated to create an appropriate environment that can meet precious human needs. Because public needs and demands must be identified to design suitable neighborhoods and environments for people to meet their transcendent human needs, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs and Rpoport’s ecological approach were selected to examine needs based on the indigenous culture of individuals.

Finally, Maslow’s hierarchy of needs was examined and adopted with principles introduced by Rapoport, then field studies were conducted in considered sites, and four principles were extracted: privacy hierarchy, flexibility, personal open space, and design for individuals with different moods.

A solution was proposed in the framework of Woonerf design for the neighborhood based on the obtained principles, and one of the districts of Karaj called “Jahanshahr” was chosen as a case study.

On the one hand, there is no coherent complex as a flight museum, executing aviation training classes, and a suitable event place for flying UAVs, kites, and balloons in Iran. On the other hand, due to lack of knowledge of air traveling in this country, It seems necessary to design a multipurpose place to fulfill these goals.

Abbas Abbad hills, known as the green solitaire of Tehran, will turn to the cultural hub of Iran because of its cultural, commercial facilities, and its convenient area near the subway. Thus, there is a bright coloration between Abbas Abad hills’ plans, its location, and R & F complex goals, so this site has been chosen for design.

R & F complex is all about flight, this ever concern of humankind. Flight has always been having the special meaning of release and freedom(R&F). Flight in both physical and abstract form always has a start point—the moment of releasing from boundaries around us and Take off time.

There afterward, it is the time of reaching the peak and ascending. While you are experiencing stability in cruise time, you can release yourself more and more to experience another peak and stability. The movements of ramps in the Museum and using the site’s topography can remind us of this idea. In addition, the Aerodynamic surfaces of the buildings stem from birds’ body shapes.

You should be free from your mind for such reaching, although you need to think correctly and experience mindfulness. So the cantilever bridges of the site called Thought Bridge can go to each part of the site freely and have access to the buildings through the light bridge, as the knowledge and guidance of humans. These bridges are the means of evoking Release and Flight in visitors’ minds which are kept with space structure.

In this project, the abstract definition of the Flight has a vital role in shaping the form. In addition, the idea of designing an aerodynamic building creates a space structure that can remind us of the wing’s shape and assists the prevailing wind (west wind) to pass quickly.

To evoke this change, the entrance of the Museum is accessible from the lower level of the building with a narrow and low light ramp.

The structure of the museum building is a space structure that holds a hanging aircraft model.

Flying above the skies has always been one of humankind’s concerns, and today, traveling to other planets is one of the most prominent goals of scientists in the long run. As traveling or living outside the Earth’s atmosphere has not been implemented yet, it can be eligible to consider being inside the atmosphere but above the sky.

The notion that humans’ essentials, built environment, and landscape would be changed if they had lived in another place instead of the Earth’s surface brings the idea of thinking about the human brain and its function. As many acts that human beings have done come originally from their mind and physiology of the brain (amygdala, neocortex), the concept of this design stems from the brain as an intelligent instrument for communicating with ourselves, surroundings, and environment, and as a platform to start to change our needs and behaviors.

This project called Airhome is a temporary home with different areas for those eager to travel or live above the sky. These Airhomes are located in an Air-city at 60,000 feet from sea level and start flying from a site called Flight City designed for this reason, and its function is like the Control tower of airports. Airhomes can communicate with each other with artificial intelligence, but they also can interact with people on the Earth with Virtual reality and Hologram technology.

Air-city is our brain that can freely bring us everywhere our mind goes, and the Airhomes are like brain neurons. They can interact with each other by some virtual paths as brain nerves. In this project, it is supposed that each person has their world, as a virtual city, in their brain, and all people’s brains can shape the whole world. The project also brings this question to mind: What if we live in the brain of another creature? What if each person lives in their brain in parallel worlds?

DESIGN PROCESS Each human brain is assumed to be an Air-city, taken from the idea that people communicate with each other and the surroundings with their brain, and each person has their world in their brain, which can create the whole world altogether.

Each Neuron is considered an Airhome, and the Nerves are the virtual path between Airhomes.

The combination of an extracted pattern from Brain and its structure with the earth’s spherical shape creates the structure of Airhome.

Airhomes should have an Aerodynamic design to make it possible to fly. In addition, to provide stability of the airhome against different forces such as Lift, Gravity, Thrust, and Drag, the airhomes can move synchronized with the Earth’s movement around the sun.

The Airhomes fly at an altitude that neither interfere with aircraft nor satellites so that the suitable height would be between 50-60 kilometers above sea level.

As human beings cannot breathe normally without supplementary oxygen from 5 kilometers above the sea level, pressurized oxygen should be obtained inside each Airhome. Such equipment is located on the lower floor of the Airhome.

GREEN BELT The green belt is a hanging area as an outdoor space designed for different activities, including exercising, gathering, Sitting, and walking.

It is a place to have nature and some needs of human beings that are the same, whether they are on the Earth or in the air.

Light colors and furniture with curve lines are used to show the fluidity of the space.

IMPLEMENTED PROJECT OF PATERNAL HOME | PROFESSIONAL PROJECT Residential Complex Role: Freelance Architect | Designer, Interior designer and Architecture Supervisor Year: 2015-2017 | Design Duration: Four month | Construction Duration: Sixteen month

Sarver building project is a residential home on a limited ground to gather all the family (children, grandchildren, and parents) together. The old paternal house was demolished, and the new project with four floors on a pilot was erected, according to the construction criteria of that district.

During design, all the demands and essentials of residents have been reviewed. After analyzing more than ten etudes, the final plan was designed based on the collaborative demands.

These shared requirements form the base of the design, and for each unit, residents’ demands were considered too. In the design process, various meetings were held between the designer and the residents continuously, and there was a close interaction between them.

A flexible area is designed as the heart of each home to fulfill family requests to change the space based on their requirements.

As the yard and open space have a crucial role in shaping the family’s activity, a roof garden was designed since the open space was eliminated from the yard to provide parking.

This project is named “Sarvar” in honor of the grandmother, Sarvar, who raised the family’s children.

This name is translated into “Lord.”

DESIGN PROCESS Common demands of the whole family members: The family demands that the private area be separated from the public. Instead of having more bedrooms, they also request an expansive drawing and living room with widespread daylight. The living room was a significant area of the home, as the family needed a place where family members gathered there and did their activities. In this way, they are together but still doing their job. The flexible area is designed for this reason.

FACADE & SECTION DESIGN The facade is simple and full of a sense of life.

Creating an inviting and sincere facade requires warm-colored material. The best choice is fire brick with Travertine stone as a light background to better show the brick color. The runner plant of the balcony creates an alive and green facade, and to emphasize this green space, the fire brick is used wherever the plants are. The Geranium flower with its red and bright petals evokes the flow of life and vitality. All of these facade materials convey that this building is a pleasant place to live.

With its vibrant color, the yellow wall reminds the sunlight in this space. The combination of warm yellow color and wood brings both concentration and happiness to the heart of the home.

The garden’s two different levels have various functions: The lower level is a place for seating beside the plants, playing, and spending time together. The higher level furnished by the thermo-wood floor is suitable for gathering, resting, and eating.

The southern part of the garden’s steps allows the residents to be near nature while sitting in the mosaic around the fountain.

Various types of plants, trees, and flowers, ranging from evergreen plants to seasonal flowers, are in the garden.

The residents also can plant edible vegetables and produce home plants in the northwestern part of the garden.

The roof garden has been furnished with shade and a bioclimatic pergola to make it usable in all seasons.

Bioclimatic pergola structure allows intelligent solar protection and regulation of the temperature of natural form. They are equipped with adjustable automatic tilting and retractable louvers. In a slightly open position, they rotate to create a welcome light breeze while blocking out direct sunlight, and when closed, they protect from any rain/snow.

The glass panels around the pergola are also retractable to be wider and combined with the exterior space.
