Why We Serve By General Colin Powell An Excerpt: Over the years, Americans have chosen to serve for many reasons…during the Revolutionary War, to create a nation; in World War II, to save humanity from destruction; at various times, to help pay for college. Still, no matter the motivation, once our men and women joined up, they’ve given their all for our country.

The Kingfisher Yellowjackets Football team lost their first game of the 2021/2022 playoff round in the postseason against the Indians from Plainview with a score of 48 to 20.

But GIs are driven by another allegiance that is just as fierce: to their buddies. During training, they learn to rely on each other for food, for security, for support. They know that they will live, and possibly die, together as a squad of five or nine. It’s a form of bonding you can’t find any- Plainview will enter the second where else. round facing Verdigris, who beat The bond goes beyond the troops. I heard about a young boy, an Army brat. His family Seminole in quarter final round. moved to a new community, and when he showed up at his new school, the teacher introduced him Thanks for another great gridiron by saying, “It must be hard finding a new home every couple of years.” He answered, “No ma’am. season, Jackets! Cold Weather Tweets Collected by: Jorden Beck/kk The cold is upon us, so we will be looking at some funny tweets of people trying to survive the winter this week. First, we have, 1. Lauren Duca @laurenduca I'll give you a winter prediction: It's gonna be cold, it's gonna be grey, and it's gonna last you for the rest of your life. 2. Steve vs Ninjas @stevevsninjas Fox: Winter is here. We need a plan to survive. Bear: I have a great idea! We just sleep until spring. Goose: Wanna hear migrate idea?

Why We Serve (continued from page 1) We always have a home; we’re just looking for a house to put it in.” A friend of mine was filmed in Vietnam by a TV crew for a special report on race and the army. He was asked, “What’s the relationship between your soldiers, black and white?” Tony answered like the New York street kid he was: “Hey man, same mud, same blood.” He was talking about that sense of family. A few days later, he was killed by a booby trap. Establishing memorials is one way that Americans can repay the debt owed to the people who have died serving this country. But we also bear a similar obligation to the survivors of our nation’s conflicts, our veterans.

What can you do? …put out Flags, cheer the marchers at parades, and go to tributes. But, when you wake up on November 12th, remember that it is still Veterans Day for our veterans … and it summer: wait its midnight alredy?? the sun hasn't even set yet!! lol will be every day of their lives. So, thank them. Talk to them. Invite winter: HOW. HOW IS IT NOT EVEN 8PM. THE SUN SET LIKE them to schools so they can share their experiences and teach our 5 DAYS AGO children that we all must take care of each other, on the battlefield and in life. 4. Anne Thériault @anne_theriault Many people refer to the World War II generation as the Me in the summer: *cute dress* *cute hair* * cute makeup* *so greatest one, but we’ve had greatness in every single generation of cute* Me in the winter: *a sobbing pile of sweaters* Americans who have served. I know of none greater than the generation of GIs now fighting for our country in Iraq and Afghanistan 5. Hippo @InternetHippo and serving around the world. Remember, someday soon they’ll need us to fight for them. How different species deal with Winter: Birds - fly south Bears hibernate Humans - complain Note-General Colin Powell died last month from complications due to Covid. He was 84. 3. jomny sun @jonnysun

Digging for Dinosaur Bones By: Eli Johnson/kk One time when I was like six, I went with my family to Seminole or something like that to a museum. We stayed at a hotel with a pool and when I swam in it I saw a rainbow outside. I believe we stayed for one or two nights. When we went to the museum, I was really excited because they had one of those giant sandboxes with fake dinosaur bones; however, I thought they were real. My brother and I dug and he got a tiny bit of sand on me. I got really mad. I got in a stance like a Center in football, got a bunch of sand in my shovel, and between my legs, I sprayed him with a ton of sand. It hit him right in the face. I got sent back to the hotel and cried. My mom occasionally found some sand in my brother’s hair when she bathed my brother like a year later.

Last year for Thanksgiving me and my family would all get together at my grandma's house. We have about 20 people in my family and they all know how to have fun. All you hear when you walk into the house is laughing and everybody having a good time. We had turkey, mashed potatoes, and many more things to eat. Let me tell you, the elderly people are the best cooks. After we eat, we all go outside to hangout and play some family kickball. I don’t know why but my kickball team always loses. Dallen Barton/kk

Well, it’s time for Thanksgiving. It is the time of the year when we all celebrate the cruel history of the Native American and Pilgrim relationship. Do not get me wrong I love Thanksgiving food as much as anyone, but let’s not forget all the terrible things the Pilgrims did to the Native Americans. I figured to get into the Thanksgiving spirit I would list the two of the top worst things Americans have done to Indigenous people. #1 Columbus. Just anything to do with him was terrible. #2 Dole and the U.S. Government steal Hawaii. The fact we just thought we could just take it for LAND is sad. Jorden Beck/kk Every year on Thanksgiving we just eat. Nothing else. That’s it. Just eat then we’re done. My family helps make the food and some of our other relatives come over and we eat, watch a movie, then they leave. When the food is done all nine of us gather around the table and get ready to eat again.

Thanksgiving with my family looks similar to the stereotypical American family Thanksgiving. We go to my Nana’s house with my aunts and uncles and cousins. We turn on the football game. We usually have turkey, stuffing, corn, mashed potatoes, pecan and pumpkin pie, and apple pie. We also go to my other grandparents in the city. We have the same stuff there pretty much. I really like Thanksgiving break because I get a week off of school this year. I’ll probably fish some and work on break. I am really hoping to sleep in during break. Eli Johnson/kk

KHS Baseball players, family and fans can order their own Kingfisher Baseball gear online. The store will close on November 22, so be sure to get your orders in. Proceeds from the sale of Kingfisher Baseball 2022 will benefit both the Varsity and JV teams.

We all come out of our rooms and my brothers come over from their houses and occasionally my grandpa comes over to eat with the little rats he calls his grandchildren. When we are all done eating we I go back to my room and my brothers go back to their house and my stepdad, mom, and grandpa just sit in the living room. Deacon Harjo/kk This year for Thanksgiving me and my family are going to Colorado to go skiing. We normally go to my uncle’s house in Stillwater. We eat turkey and stuff like that, but my grandma normally brings chocolate cake. We also normally watch football and sometimes play football. Last year we went to my nana and papa’s which is also in Stillwater. Myles Harrison/kk
