KHS Senior Dips Skulls and Other Items By: Stinger Staff KHS senior Mason Reherman will someday be wearing an OHP uniform, patrolling the roads and highways of our great state. However, while finishing up his final year of high school, Mason has taken something he saw in a YouTube video to the next level as a budding business venture. Hydrographic dipping describes the process of coating items with thin sheets of colored plastic using water and special chemicals. Hydro Film sheets are printed by various manufacturers and can be ordered from internet sites. The sheets range in price from $8 to $94, depending on the size and pattern. Mason's interest in the process started with what he called "Redneck" Hydrodipping," in a video on YouTube. He wanted to try it to see if it worked. Several dipped skulls later, a friend of Mason's father saw his work and asked if he could dip some skulls and car parts for him. To date, Mason has dipped skulls from cows, coyotes, deer and goats. No human skulls yet. He's getting read to dip a longhorn skull and can do just about any animal, as long as his dipping tank is big enough. Big items are fine, but his bread and butter business comes from dipping smaller items. Case in point, he displayed pictures of a Yeti cooler cup dipped in real-flame and a cell phone case in green camo.

“I may not agree with what you say, but I shall defend to the death your right to say it. Voltaire?

Car parts to be dipped include dashes and interior parts, exterior emblems and trim pieces. He's also started taking orders for dipped firearms, including shotguns, rifles and handguns. Mason charges based on size of item, and how detailed the item is He works out of his Grandfathers "dip" shack located outside the city limits. Students interested in having something dipped (cell phone cases for example), contact Mason in Mr. Kaya's class during 7th period. He's also on Facebook.

Stinger Fashion: Prom Dresses By: Alma Atondo/ls This week’s Stinger Fashion features Mrs. Leffingwells’s prom dresses. Mrs. Leffingwell’s prom dresses are prom dresses that girls have donated or gave away for a good cause. These prom dresses are located in Mrs. Leffingwell’s office. These dresses are beautiful, honestly. You can borrow them for prom in case, you do not have a prom dress yet, for this school year’s prom. See pictures of the dresses on Page 4 of this issue. 1. The first prom dress is a black dress with a strap on only one side. It has gold and silver jewels on the chest area and on the left side of the ribs. It’s pretty long, in case, you want a long dress, and its a bit close to the body, or tight fitting. 2. The second prom dress is a black strapless dress. It has glitter looking stuff on it. It has the glitter from the chest all the way to around your waist. It’s not as long in length. It looks pretty, though. 3. The third prom dress is a gold one strap dress. it has jewels on the strap. It kind of has a gold/yellow/tan color. 4. Last but not least, there’s a purple/blue dress. This dress has a spaghetti strap on one side. It has jewels going down on the left side. The jewels are different shapes and sizes. They’re pretty shiny, if you ask me. If you plan on going to prom this April 9 and still do not have your prom dress, come by Mrs. leffingwell’s office and check them out and see if you like them. Remember Prom is right around the corner so hurry and go check them out. The dresses look amazing and you can wear them for free. Check out the pics on Page 4 or go see Mrs. Leffingwell.

Senior Profile: Alma Padilla By: Andrea Jimenez/ss Let me introduce you to one of this year’s graduating seniors, Alma Padilla. Alma Noemi Padilla is the daughter of Rigoberto and Adela Padilla. She has two brothers, Kris and Jr. (13), and three sisters, Christina (29), Jessica (27), and Michelle (24). Gallerita, as she is also known as, was born in the state of Oklahoma on May 15, 1998. Her parents are originally from the beautiful state of Jalisco in Mexico. This is also where she considers her second home to be at. As a matter of fact, she sees herself living in Mexico in a near future, especially after a recent visit with her family to celebrate La Virgen de la Candelaria in Acatic for two weeks last month (see story in last weeks issue). Outside of school, Alma loves watching the Lion King or listening to music. A song she loves to listen to is EL Rengo del Gallo Jiro. She loves listening and dancing along to banda, cumbias, zapateado, tamborazo, and many more. Gallerita is definitely the life of the party and the type of girl you would love to have around. Alma drives her cool silver Ford truck to Braum’s, where she is currently employed. Before getting to work, she chills out to La Zeta on the radio. At work, Alma can certainly make some mean sundaes and is a pleasure to work with. When it comes to relaxation she prefers to play a little game of Mario Cart on her Wii or watch La Querida del Centauro on Telemundo. Her hobbies include going to horse races and rodeos. Making Alma happy is really easy. Simply take her shopping to Charlotte Russe or Rue 21 and make her some chiles rellenos for dinner. Alma has participated in the wonderful sport of futbol, or soccer, through out high school. She loves Mrs. Hobza’s FACS class and considers her to be one of her favorite teachers. Mr. Kaya has also made her list of favorites, describing him as a funny and outgoing teacher. He will definitely be missed after graduation. Blanca, Briana, and Andrea will also be missed. They are three of her best friends here at KHS. “Gallerita” isn’t really sure what she will be up to after high school but will for sure be making history somehow. Her advice to underclassmen is “Don’t get in my way,” and some words to her fellow senior classmates are “We made it!”

Library changes in KHS By: Lisa Baxter/ls Ms. Johnson has decided to better the organization of the library. When I talked to her on February 17 th, 2016 she said that she hopes it will be done by spring. There is a good chance everything in the library will change. There will be signs to tell us where the books are and what genre they are. They will also be color coded. Johnson has her library aides organize the books in a way that it is easy to find a book of a specific genre. (e.x. Thriller, Mystery, etc.) This unique organization tactic will hopefully enable students to better find and read books of their choice. This will also allow pupils to expand their usual genre choices. Not only is Ms. Johnson reorganizing the library, but she is also doing a little bit of Spring Cleaning. As she goes through the books with the help of her library aides, they gather the books that they chose to retire. After all of the books that are being retired are gathered, they will be donated. Now you will also be able to read books similar to the ones you love. Next time you’re in the library here at KHS, it will, hopefully, be much easier to find the book you’ve been dying to read.

Parental Lock: Good or Bad? Opinion By: Michael Sutton/ls Recently, fellow Stinger Reporter Robbie Haynes wanted to do an article over Chuck Tingle and was stopped due to parental lock. There are many things, like YouTube, that have their educational possibilities, but there are also many terrible things on the internet and are blocked for a reason. At the beginning of the year, they went over how they could see who went to what website, so we needed to make sure not to let anyone use your login. However, with this in effect why even have the parental block to begin with? If you can see where people go, then you can see if they go somewhere they are not supposed to. If the Principal was to take them off, then places, like YouTube, and other sites would be so much easier to access. With these sites and other ones able to be used for school work, it would make it a lot easier to find sources for essays and other assignments. There is not downside to lifting the lock on computers, we are/should be old enough to know what’s right or wrong, and if not, we can see who was on what and punish them accordingly.

Heart Breaks Opinion by: Alma Atondo/ls People get their hearts broken every day. The wrong love hurts. Humans do not understand that getting their heart broken slowly kills you inside. You do not realize that people are hurt or suffering. Sometimes, the people that smile the most, are the ones that are hurt the most. They are the ones that need your help. You never really know what is going on in someone’s life. Artists make a lot of heart broken songs just because of how many people suffer from a broken heart. Heart breaks do not only come once in a while. You can get a heart broken when you have high hopes and dreams about something one minute, and in just a flash, you are let down. All that you had wished for comes crashing down, so you have nothing else to look forward to in the morning. The one person who made your life worth living for is gone and leaves you with nothing but memories. There are no signs of caring, or sympathy and you just a memory of their face. You can do nothing but watch them walk away, and no matter how much you ask for them to return, they continue walking. They no longer belong to you, and you are left answering your own questions about what went wrong. Now that they are gone, you realized that you are right back where you started. Your heart is broken.

Peyote Ceremony By: Janelle Hawk/ls Last weekend, we had a meeting for my grandma Joyce. Friday evening we went down to Concho. My grandma was cooking to feed us before we went in. She didn’t go in with us because she had to stay up all night cooking to feed us in the morning. We went in late on Friday. When I had entered, everybody was sitting around the teepee. I sat by my mom, because this was my first time going in. Before we started, we had to talk about what was going on. They then gave my grandma Joyce some peyote to take. My grandpa is one of the main chiefs in our tribe, so he had to do everything. He explained to us why it was so important to pray. He said some things in life aren’t always going to go the right way, so you have to pray that things get better. He then finally told us that we had to sing 21 songs all night. We started to pray then passed the medicine around. We had fire in the middle, so when we took the medicine it would make us see the way to the good things in life. We stayed up all night praying and singing. When morning came we went outside and sang until the morning star had risen up. After that, we went back in and then got to come out of the teepee. My mom had to carry water, and then my mom, some family members, and I carried in food. Once we got done eating, we went in our community building to eat. That night was something I have never experienced before, and I hope I can do it again sometime. My Native-American culture is full of wonderful and fascinating traditions and I look forward to growing up and learning more about it all.

Within 3 minutes of me posting the info- one of the girls subtweeted me and said “nobody cares”. Nobody cares? Nobody cares that a human being died? That a husband, uncle, friend, and DAD, died? Truly, my heart breaks for the girls and boys who have put me through so much these past three years. I have been very good at sucking it up and pushing forward even with all the hate. But to say that no one cares that A DAD died is just sickening to me. They have to be so miserable with their life that they feel the need to hate on someone so much. The saddest part is that they think it is cool to bully. f you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. Stand up for the bullied. If enough people start defending the bullied then it won’t be as fun for the bully to bully. Bullies keep going because their friends think “it’s funny” and it makes the bully feel cool because all of the attention is on them. I can tell you personally it is very lonely being bullied because people don’t want to stand up for you because they’re afraid of the person who is bullying or that then they will start getting bullied as well. I do not want sympathy for anything that has happened in my life because I truly believe that everything happens for a reason. Maybe I have gone through all of this so that I could share my story with you today and bring awareness to adults and teens about the affect of bullies. The school system and society makes the bullied feel so alone and wrong for even being bullied. When in reality it is not the fault of the bullied. The one who is wrong is the bully. No matter what “reason” you have for bullying someone- it is INVALID. And DO NOT EVER tell someone they deserve to be bullied. Because they don’t. No one does. Have compassion for others and remember- if you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all. Please share this to raise awareness Thank you & God bless. Baylee Ogle

My Family Tree

T.I.M.E.

By: Teresa Rangel/ss

Opinion By: Clairanda Porter/ls

Have you ever gone into the deepest depths of your train of thoughts and questioned your existence? Where did I come from? How did I come to be? I initially took this challenge on my freshmen year by asking my mother’s maternal cousin if we had any Native American roots, just out of curiosity for the school, but I never took the incentive. Who really cares? I was the heavy procrastinator my freshman year. All I cared about at the time was the inner magical world I had created in the abyss of my mind with rainbows and sparkly glitter everywhere along with my best friend Clairanda. Well, last year during December, I decided to actually look at those emails I had gotten of my second cousin and I regret nothing, because that is when I submerged myself in learning more about the majestic legend I am. It all started around Christmas bread when books wouldn’t fill in for the crevices of my ever absorbing brain. I grabbed my Toshiba, my chamomile tea, crossed my legs, and put the computer on my lap. I went to my treasure map and started navigating my way through the ancient water of the gene pool. (I tried using ancestry.com and the trial wasn’t worth it! My family records aren’t from North America continental soil they’re mostly European.) I went to Genealogia de Mexico online and found a list of free records! That was really awesome!

Time slips by like a snake in liquid dirt. You try to hold on, but your efforts are wasted like a party girl. You tell yourself that you will enjoy the time you have, but it goes by so fast that it is hard to tell that you had it in the first place. Every moment you have could be tainted by a flutter here or there; it is never certain that moments will become memories. Time is what makes our life structured. Without time we would not have the flow that we call life. We have a love hate relationship with time for the simple reason that it goes by too fast or too slow. When we wish we could freeze time, to stay in a moment, time goes by in fast motion. When we wish we could time travel to the future, everything goes by in the slowest motion possible. As there are few things certain in our short existence, death and time passing are those few. Time may pass, but the feeling of time is never set in stone. Time could be an acronym for, Trust-In-ManifestedEmotions. As said before, without time our world would be completely different.

Mrs.Hobza is known for being her favorite teacher because of her kindness and great personality. Briana plans on going to college to major for Special Education. In the future she see’s herself in college and maybe with a fiance. Her favorite movie is, The Longest Ride because of the hunk that stars in it. Briana’s favorite type of music is Country and Mexican. Reading and spending time with family and friends are some of her hobbies. When it comes to holidays, Christmas is her favorite and her favorite place to shop is Rue 21, hint hint. Her favorite animal is a dog. Bri drives a nice blue dodge 2010 charger . Her best friends are Blanca B. Andrea J. and Alma P. She is really exited for graduation her advice to underclassmen is, “Dont wait untill the last minute to do something.” The thing she will most miss about KHS is definitely not the food, but her friends and all the memories that were made here. Her last words to her fellow seniors classmates are “We made it”.

The Death of Ben Stiller’s Career By: Martin Padilla/kk First off, I had no idea that Ben Stiller was capable of delivering such trash in a movie. I mean, I read a lot of reviews for this telling me how bad it was, but I had no idea it was going to be this bad. I could tell you that this is a big steaming pile of dog poo, but that would be offensive to dog poo. From the minute it started I knew it was going to be bad, Justin Bieber was in it for pete’s sake. I don’t know what was funnier about it, the characters or the plot line. It dragged on and on and it honestly did not feel at all like I was watching Zoolander. The first Zoolander is hilarious! It’s a good comedy and yes, it’s a little stupid, but it was enjoyable, funny, and it was original! I feel like Ben Stiller wanted to make a sequel so badly he decided to do everything on it. He literally directed, wrote the screenplay, and starred in it. The only thing I liked about this movie was that Mugatu’s character came back, even then it was still terrible movie. It was like he was the only actor in the film that could have made it go by faster and he doesn’t even appear until about a half hour before it ends. I know sequels are usually never better than the original but this one really proves it. I would rather slam my tongue in a car door than watch this horrid movie ever again. I expected so much out of this movie after seeing the first one, but the jokes were dry, the characters were dull, the plot was almost exactly the same as the first. To top it off Penelope Cruz is in it. Did I mention Benedict Cumberbatch is in this? Yes, that’s right, this award winning actor is in what is possibly the worst movie of 2016 so far. And his character is so weird, freaky even. He looks like the kind of woman that introduces herself with “I’m a vegan”. Overall this movie is complete garbage. I would say that you should wait for the dollar rental at Redbox but one dollar is a little outrageous for a movie as stupid and pointless as this, which is why I give it a D. Although it was terrible, unfortunately I have seen worse. Don’t waste your money on this.

Flashback -The Best Game of 2010 Opinion by: Nick Bradford/ss The best game of 2010, in my options, is Rockstar’s Red Dead Repetition. Almost everyone has played this game or at least heard of it. The game takes place back in the 20th century when it was lawless and there were outlaws everywhere. A follow up to the game Red Dead Revolver, the game is about former outlaw John Marston as he tries to save his family by chasing his former friends and gang by hunting them and killing them across the American frontier to find them. To help you find them you will meet so new friends like the marshals, some farmers and the leader of the Mexican Rev. Then you have some old friends like the U.S. army and two agents that are keeping your family until you do what they ask of you.

The game is an open world environment for players to explore. There is a lot you can do in the game. You can hunt and 4.
