Old Retro Classics

Serial Killers

By Thomas Smith/ge

Opinion by: Gina Tarango/kk

Video Games have been around for decades and some have evolved into all most life like graphics and advanced gameplay, but there are still some old games that are still fun to play. These games may just be in 8-bit style and have simple controls but they are still just as interesting to play. Donkey Kong, one of the first games that featured Mario, is an arcade style game where you as Jumpman must climb up a construction site and stop Donkey Kong who just kidnapped a lady. This game gradually gets harder and harder as you play on through the levels. Another game that is fits as an old classic is The Legend of Zelda; this game was on the NES and was the first of game of the series. This game starts you off in an area next to a door, inside is a person who gives you a sword and they would say one of many video game quotes:” It’s dangerous to go alone, take this.” In the game you have to travel around to find dungeons and items to help you locate the other dungeons or secret areas. These games are still good, although they are old, but I would like to see new games with the same retro style.

I am fascinated by how some serial killers think or what goes on in their mind. It is so interesting what they say about it and why they deny the stuff they do. The two serial killers I am fascinated by are Ted Bundy and Jeffrey Dahmer. Ted Bundy killed over 30 girls some say more but we don’t know. There are tapes on Netflix about the whole situation about the trial and how it all went down. I get why people hated Ted but he was sorry for what he did at the end and many did not want him to die. My opinion is I don’t think they should have killed him. A lot of people disagree with me and I get they have their own opinion but it is what I think. I think they should’ve given him a chance and not let him die. He was a smart guy that made dumb decisions. He tried to fight death row. But in the end the odds weren’t in his favor. People threw fireworks and made flyers and waited for the news for him to finally be dead. Its sad to think about how many people wanted him dead. It is how life is I guess. They also have documentaries on Jeffrey Lionel Dahmer. He was wild. He was insane like for real. He was best known as a person who ate his victims and preserved their body. It was awful. Awful to think about what he did. He did many more things but it is awful to say. He died in 1994. I cant really say much about him because I don’t know much but after he was convicted he was also sorry for what he did and I get they can lie and be manipulative but it is on them if they were truly sorry or not. It is just interesting how they think about things and what goes on in their mind. Like we do not know what they think or not. It is sad. I don’t support death row at all. But it is whatever. It is my opinion. They both did terrible things and they can not take back the lives they took away. I get why people cant forgive what they did but not forgiving wont help. They are gone and we cant do anything.

Coming Soon to 2019

Ted Bundy

By Thomas Smith/kk

By Jayden Burleson/mh

2019 has been only just begun and we can already see great things that might just happen this year. In movies we will see a lot from marvel as Captain Marvel coming out before Endgame, which is already going to be a highly anticipated film. Marvel is also coming out with Spiderman: Far From Home, which will most likely show us some of the effect after Endgame. Marvel will also be coming out with the Dark Phoenix, an X-Men movie, and New Mutants which is another X-men Universe movie.

Ted Bundy is one of the most infamous American serial killers in history. He committed over 30 murders over a span of 19741978 and the murders occurred in 7 different states.

In Horror movies we might see the Next chapter of IT which is shown to come out sometime this year. Disney is trying really hard by making live action remakes, I only say this because there are literally three different live action remakes to be released this year alone. The Movies for this year seem pretty good minus the remakes or other Disney films that come out this year.

Throughout the murder case Bundy perceived himself as innocent and claimed he had nothing to do with the crimes. Also on the tapes Bundy would refer to himself in the 3 rd person while explaining to police and investigators about the crime scenes, victims, and the committed crimes.

I would have to say that this is a big year for Marvel due to all the big films that are going to be released, and I am sure it will live up to the hype.

Netflix recently released a series over the killer, which included the actual tape recordings of Bundy throughout his years in prison. Ted Bundy was in prison for a total of 15 years and escaped twice before he was executed on January 24, 1989 by electric chair.

However Ted Bundy was convicted of the crime after he murdered 2 college students. Theodore Robert Bundy would later confess to over 30 murders just 2 days before his scheduled execution. This notorious case inspired many popular novels and films devoted to serial murder.

A Quiet Place: Spoilers By Kevin Velarde/kk Quiet Place is a movie that is about a family that cannot talk because there are monsters that have very sensible auditory senses. The movie starts out with the family looking for supplies. The smallest child finds a toy, but it makes noises so they say to put it back. His sister grabs it for him and takes the batteries out and gives it back to him. When everyone leaves he grabs the batteries and puts them back in the toy. The Mega Man Series

Movie Reviews

By Thomas Smith/mh

By Gina Tarango/kk

The Mega Man series is a game made by Capcom that is ongoing with 11 titles under the main series with several side series like the Mega Man X series. The first game came out by the time of the NES and the last game that came out recently came out was Mega Man for the switch, if you don’t count his appearance in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. The game is a 2-D side-scroller that has you go through areas with hazards and enemies. The main mission for the Games is to defeat all the 8 robot Masters, all with a specific weapon type, and then go to the final area. The main character is Mega Man who has the Mega Buster, a weapon that can be charged up into a large blast, another ability you get is the ability to copy the fallen boss’s main attack. The thing with this game is that it is difficult to figure out which one to fight first due to every boss does have a weakness to each other’s weapons making it easy to defeat them if you have that specific weapon. The games to me are pretty good.

A star is born. I love it. Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga star in it. It is such a good movie. It was released last year in 2018. Bradley Cooper directed it and it is amazing and sad. Honestly I cried when I watched it. I recommend you to watch it if you haven’t watched it. Bradly plays a guy with a drug addiction and he is a country singer. Lady Gaga plays Ally and waitress and singer songwriter. Jackson, the guy Bradley plays, is amazed by ally performance at a drag bar. Ally and him talk about the struggles she faces in pursuing a professional music career. Jack and ally hit it off and are fascinated by each other. I love it and it is sad to see what ends up happening. Creed II. It is an amazing movie. Honestly I like Creed II better than Creed I. it’s a sports drama film directed by Steven Caple Jr . it is a great movie I liked it. Adonis Creed fights Viktr Drago son of Ivan Drago. It is really nerve racking I guess I don’t know. But it is a great movie. Sylvester Stallone stars in it as Rocky his trainer who helps him through it all.

Chilly Temperatures By Jayden Burleson/ge

Did you know that teenage boys (age 1217) tend to earn less weekly than sameaged girls, but save more per week. A Proud Supporter of Kingfisher High School

A cold front has been sweeping across parts of the US bringing record cold temperatures. Around the northeastern part of the United States these temperatures are caused also by the “polar vortex”. Along with these record cold temperatures come threats of life. Being outside for long periods of time in the cold can cause severe frostbite and intense hypothermia. Meteorologists all over strictly advise that people stay bundled up and inside. Schools have also been closed due to these arctic temperatures. Many road closures are also in affect, due to icy roads which can lead to severe accidents and crashes. The coldest temperature ever recorded on Earth is 89.2 degrees and temperatures have come close this past weeks reaching up to -60. Oklahoma recently received an ice storm, which started with a rain storm overnight which quickly froze. This caused road closures, accident, and numerous school closings. Recent outbreaks of the flu have been reported .

Pond Fishing

The Cosmic Flare

By: Mason Snider/kk

By Mary Tompkins/ge

It was a Sunday afternoon and me and my friend Noah had just gotten out of church. We wanted to do something, but couldn’t figure out what to do. Until, that is, Noah’s dad said he’d take to a good podd to fish. Of course we said ok. When we got out there it looked really good. Their were cattails everywhere. Moss was all over the banks and it looked amazing; the best part was I caught a 4 pounder on my first cast. The rest of the night me and Noah caught about 30 and we had a great time.

He initially entered the U.S. in 2005. 21 was convicted of felony drug charges in October 2014. 21 savage recently came out in 2018 with Honestly love it like for real. If you haven’t listened to it, then go listen to it. A lot of people have been posting about it and saying it shouldn’t happen. 21 even tweeted about it but not well. I don’t know what will happen next or what he will do but he’s rich so he can come back or stay right? I don’t know how it works but he has been doing good recently with his music. Also supposedly ICE provide false information to the press when it claimed he had a criminal conviction. Honestly I don’t keep up with what he does just about his music.

Have you thought of how a star dies? Now astronomers have possibly found a new way that stars die. They call it the “Cow.” It was a mysterious bright burst of light that revealed the new type of stellar death. There are still some facts that scientists do not know about the death of the star. Scientists are questioning if it was a usual star being ate by a black hole or an extremely old star that died in an unusual way. The Asteroid Terrestrial-impact Last Alert System noticed the explosion on June 16, 2018. Astronomers instantly knew that the “cow” was not like the other deaths of stars that we know about. The explosion came from a star that was formed in the Dwarf Galaxy in the constellation Hercules 200 million light years away. How fast the explosion was is one of the things that made of it unusual. Since the explosion was so rare, many scientists got super excited that they have possible made a new discovery that would make history. This new discovery could be the part of our technological advances. It could cause us to push ourselves to make new technological advances to be able to do more studies on more unusual deaths of stars.

Board of Education Report February 4, 2019 The Kingfisher Board of Education met in regular session at 7PM on Monday, February 4, 2019 with all members present. President Mark Squires called the meeting to order and asked Superintendent of Schools Jason Sternberger for any district honors and recognitions. Supt. Sternberger commended Kerri Lafferty for being selected as the Cross Country Coach of the Year. Following approval of previous minutes, the Board discussed and approved encumbrances for the past month. Mr. Sternberger said expenditures are down as usually happens at this time of the year and said the district is on track to have an end of year carryover of more than $5 million The Board heard from the district’s architect concerning construction of a Softball & Cheer facility. He said the project is very “straight forward” and should take 6-8 months to complete once the contracts are let. The building will be acquired through a leasepurchase agreement paid for from the district’s building fund and requiring no additional taxes. A representative of the district’s auditing firm gave the final report on the financial standing of the district at the end of the previous school year. A yearly, independent audit is required by the state. The Auditor reported finding no weaknesses or deficiencies and complimented the central office staff on their corrections of minor past problems. He did say their only concern was that some staff are not turning in collected money in a “timely manner.” This has been an ongoing problem for years as staff turnover requires constant training. The Auditor did point out the district finances are consistently up on most all categories and the district is in excellent financial condition and the audit report was very good. The Board approved hiring a spring, summer and fall lawn care service for the district at a cost of around $2000 per service. Supt. Sternberger said there could be as many as 18 cuttings during the contract but, if the district is able to find people to do the lawn service, the district could opt out of the lawn care. The Board approved a popcorn sales fund raiser for the track team and declared a number of yearbook cameras and other equipment surplus. The Board is also considering conducting a School Climate Survey but they tabled any action pending review of possible instruments. Supt. Sternberger told the Board of special training soon to be available for Board members (training is required) and of an “Appreciation Dinner” at the Chisholm Train Technical Center. He also reported on a meeting of the committee discussing “Long Term Facility” planning dealing with the district’s need for classrooms. This committee is made up of teachers and district patrons and has had as many as 30 people attend for brainstorming discussions. The Board seemed to favor a proposal to build a new 6-7 -8 middle school in the area of the current football practice filed (moving the field to the west.) This would enable sharing of staff with the high school and allow middle school students to use high school facilities such as the Band room and the gyms. Currently teams have to travel by bus to various gyms in the district and since the high school now has 3 basketball courts counting the DBC students would have more practice time. If constructed, this new building would then allow the current middle school to house grades 3-4-5 with grades 1-2 moving to the Heritage School and the Gilmour School becoming an early childhood center for Pre K and Kindergarten. No firm plans have been made although Mr. Sternberger did say the new school would likely have about 30,000 square feet with construction costs average about $300 per square foot. Current bonding capacity would more than cover this amount without raising taxes. The Board moved into executive session at 847PM to consider employment of the district’s administrative team (Supt. Sternberger was re-employed at the last meeting) returning at 859PM to re-employ all the team. The Board then adjourned at 900PM.
