Joyce Epstein Joyce Epstein has developed a framework for identifying six different types of parent involvement. However, this framework assists educators in developing school and family partnership programs. However, her work describes the challenges inherent in fostering each type of parent involvement in addition to the expected results of implementing them for students, parents, etc.

No one is more important than parents in sending the signal that reading and education matter and that school work is not a form of drudgery but a ticket to a better life. By giving their word to read to their children, to assist on homework, to engage the process of learning, parents can set an example for their children that is powerful and positive.

However, families reinforce the importance of school, homework, and activities that build student skills and feelings of success.” * School and family-like communities: when the communities work together it makes programs that reinforce, develop students' progress that builds student skills and feelings of success.

Chapter 2-4

The framework of six type of involvement: Type 1: Parenting Families should provide, build a safe home, and setting home conditions to support learning at each age and grade level.

Example in school: * Teacher was contacts with parents by using WhatsApp application or contact them face to face to give them feedback of the students works. * Parents provide for the students a safe learning environment at home and support children's behavior.

An example of an online session: Parents sitting with their children during the online class.

* Parents participate in online classes by seating with their children during the online class.

Type 2: Communicating Involvement follows when educators, students, and families design effective forms of school-to-home and home-to-school communications. However, schools should communicate with parents for example, by using phone calls, visits, and teacherparents conferences, etc.

Example in school: * Teacher communicates with parents in the classroom at the end of the day and gives daily feedback. * Parents conference to discuss the student's progress and doing at the lesson and give them materials to improve the students learning.

An example of an online session: Teachers communicate with parents by using WhatsApp application, Teams, and LMS.

* Teachers communicate with parents through sessions, LMS, and WhatsApp.

Type 3: Volunteering Volunteer means the person who supports school goals and children's learning or development in any way, at any place, and at any time not just at the school. Moreover, involve and encourage assisting teachers to be with children in the classroom. However, the school should make flexible schedules for the parent, so they volunteer and attend school events.

Example in school: * Parents always volunteer themself on school projects and events. * Parents volunteer on Reading Day one mother or one father to read story for the students in the library.

An example of an online session:

* Parents volunteer in reading the story to the children at the end of the class.

In the last session, the mother volunteered herself to read the story for the children.

Type 4: Learning at Home The teacher provides information and ideas for the parents about academic skills, how to help students at home with homework, and activities to help their children in each stage.

Example in school and online session: * Teacher gives resources to parents to develop students' skills at learning like a worksheet, crafts, experiments, and so on.

Homework means not only work alone it is means interactive activities shared with others at home.

The teacher gives resources like an online activity and homework to parents to develop students' skills.

Help at home means a lot, for instance encouraging, listening, reacting, guiding, and discussing it's not teaching school subjects.

Type 5 : Decision Making The schools train parents in decision making skills developing parent leaders and representatives.

The school did a counseling session for parents to choose the type of study for the children online or at school.

Example in school: * The school invites parents to a faceto-face counseling session to make school decisions, such as choosing to complete their children's studies online or at school.

Epstein’s theory is the idea that “Families, schools, and communities engage in cooperative action in order to achieve their mutual interests” (Bilton, Jackson, & Hymer, 2017, p. 233).

Type 6:Collaborating with Community

Involvement occurs when community services resources and partners are integrated into the educational process to strengthen school programs, family practices, and student learning and development.

Example in school: * School collaborates with businesses and cultural organizations.

An example of an online session: * Parents participate in "Flag Day" by taking a video or photo for their children by expressing their feeling to UAE and share it with the teachers. * Parents participate in "Happiness Day" by taking a video or photo for their children and share it with the teacher in the session.

Chapter 5

Summary I have learned through this assessment the parent's roles are important in children learning and the parents can involve in different ways, for example, provide encouragement, support, and access to activities that enable the child to master key developmental tasks. However, the parents can inhauls students’ knowledge and develop the quality of learning of the students.
