INTRODUCTION The rapid growth of digital technology in construction – with BIM at its very heart evolutionized how architects and engineers approach design and construction. As an effort to reduce the work and increase work productivity, some program environments were created to help architects build their own extensions like Dynamo & Revit API. While Dynamo is a visual promming tool, pyRevit is an IronPython script library for Revit, pyRevit assists you quickly sketch out your automation and add-on ideas, in whichever language that you are most comfortable with, inside the Revit environment and using its APIs. This guideline begins by demonstrating the benefit of pyRevit. It then describes how to use pyRevit to create your own extension. Subsequently, it explores my extension – MEOS extension, which had some add-on to manage elements information in effective way.

What is pyRevit?

pyRevit has been written by Ehsan Iran-Nejad. pyRevit is a Rapid Application Prototyping (RAD) environment for Autodesk Revit®. It helps you quickly sketch out your automation and add-on ideas, in whichever language that you are most comfortable with, inside the Revit environment and using its APIs. pyRevit can help you • Add a powerful set of free tools to your Revit workflows • Sketch out your automation ideas quickly in python • Write your own Revit addons for Revit using python (IronPython or CPython), C#, VB.Net • Distribute your tools easily to your teams using a unified interface • Share your tools with the community

Bundle and Extension

What's a Bundle?

Bundle is basically a group of resources, placed inside a folder, with a special name.

For example, pyRevit command bundles usually include a python script file (script.py), and an icon (icon.png). These files are placed inside a folder with a name that ends in .pushbutton. The last part of the naming defines the type of bundle. In this case, type of bundle is pushbutton.

What's an Extension? pyRevit extensions are a type of pyRevit Bundles. Their name ends in .extension Extension bundles, are basically groups of other bundles (mostly command bundles). pyRevit has been designed to find these extensions when starting up Revit, and create buttons and other user interface components for the bundles inside the extension.

Telling pyRevit Where to Find Our Extension Have 2 ways to install an Extension to pyRevit: • Way 1: Custom User Extensions: Launch Revit, go to pyRevit tab and open the pyRevit Settings

MEOS Extension 1.

Grid and Level Bubbles Description • Modify bubbles of grids or levels in just one click on active view.

• Reducing the time to switch or turn on, off bubbles.

Example

Show end bubbles and turn off begin bubbles on active view

Show begin bubbles and turn off end bubbles on active view

2.

Door Hinges Side Description • Check all doors and sets door hinge side.

• Create a parameter name “Hinges_side” of category “Door” then run the tool to set a parameter to statistics door hinges.

Parameter value was set to “L” or “R” by DoorHinges tool

Find Detail Group Description • Revit just show how many selected detail group in project but have no idea about the location. Find Detail Group tool helps find all location of selected detail group in project by showing views and sheets contain the detail group.

Select group then run Find Detail Group tool

Result display total groups and location of groups in project

Find And Replace Description • Find And Replace tool has 3 options: Sheet Name, View Name, Room Name.

• Change multiple sheets name, views name in multiple sheet sets and rooms name in project.

Room Center Description • Room Center has 2 options: Room Tags & Room Points, Room Tags.

• Move multiple room tags or room tags and room points to center of the room selected.

If select none, this tool will move all room tags or room tags and room points In current active view.

Check Dimension Description • Find all dimensions are not divisible by 5 of selected sheets or sheet sets.

Example Run Check Dimension tool then select sheet sets need to be checked

Result displays total and location of dimensions are not divisible by 5

Check Room Parameter Value (By Room Name) Description • Create new parameter for room category then run the tool.

• If rooms name contain Input (Enter Room Name:), parameter will be set to true and set to false if not.

8.

Override Visibility Graphic Description • When working with design options view template will have one template controls visibility graphic of design options and other templates control model, annotation,… suitable for each view categories (plans, elevations, sections, 3d views,…)

Sometimes clients want to update design options then we must change view template to the template controls design options and change back to template controls visibility graphic of that view Override Visibility Graphic tool helps change template to nomination template then return back to previous template.

Example INPUT

This sheet displays option CR03.08 and need to change to option CR03.03 but remain current template. Run the tool and select sheet sets need to change to option CR03.03.

In this case, design option of sheet sets was changed from CR03.08 to CR03.03.
