Autumn I Winter 2017

"The collection is called SERITI, a word which originates from the Basotho clan in South Africa. It translates to dignity. This being my first complete women's collection, I wanted to give it great depth and meaning. I therefore chose to name it SERITI. As a Tailor, I am more used to bringing out a masculine look and feel in garments. To capitalize on this strength, I have blended that expertise with a touch of femininity to elaborate on the woman SERITI was created for. This is a woman who is bold, daring and fearless, (qualities typically associated with masculinity), and yet humble and caring. More often than not, we forget to thank and honour this woman. This is precisely the reason why this collection honours and gives her SERITI (dignity)."

The collection SERITI is made from a traditional Sotho blanket called SEANAMARENA, which for this collection is composed of 88% wool and 12% cotton. SEANAMARENA has deep cultural significance and history. The word SEANAMARENA, means "to swear by the Chiefs". The blanket layout and design features the famous Poone (maize, which is the staple food in the Basotho culture)Â Â with its corncob motif. In Basotho culture, the corncob is a symbol of fertility and wealth.

" Tatenda Sipula (26) was born in Benoni South Africa to a fashion conscious father, a fashion forward mother and an uncle who's sense of fashion is implacable and unsurpassed. At the age of 13, Tatenda created an image around himself that says "You are what you wear and what you wear can tell everyone around you what it is that is on your mind". He called that image, Black Widdoww. The fashion brand that span over a decade has evolved into a commercial business that not only stands for quality but one that holds its value in timelessness of style. Prior to moving to Paris, Tatenda spent 6 years in Manila, practising his craft as a tailor, producing suits that dazzle the eye and feed one's desire to look and feel elegant. Tatenda holds a Bachelor of Fashion Design and Marketing obtained from the School of Fashion and Arts in Makati Manila in the Philippines. He is currently finishing a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) specializing in Luxury Brand Management at the International Fashion Academy in Paris, France. Tatenda has worked and lived in South Africa, China, Philippines and now France. His designs have been featured in numerous international publications including Metro Society Magazine (Philippines).
