HOT DOG FEST The Chicago History Museum puts on this massive three-day fest Aug. 9-11 that celebrates the city’s love affair In Chicago, there are several things we’re proud of. Deep dish pizza for one. The beautiful skyline and lakefront for sure. Our collection of world-famous museums. Michael Jordan, blues music and comedy? Check. And the hot dog. Can’t forget the hot dog. Yes, our city has a longstanding love affair with the multifaced, encased meat, and the annual Chicago Hot Dog Fest proves just that. Now in its seventh year, the three-day festival is put on by the Chicago History Museum and celebrates how integral the Chicago-style hot dog is to the city’s storied past. Enjoy a solid lineup of bands, family

activities, history and, of course, a full slate of 18 different vendors serving up Vienna Beef hot dogs in various regional and ethnic styles. Expect everything from classic hot dogs coming off the grill to loaded Chicagostyle dogs and plenty of new mouth-watering concoctions you never knew existed. There is a $5 suggested donation, with proceeds benefitting the History Museum. The Hot Dog Fest is held at the corner of Stockton and LaSalle in Lincoln Park and runs Aug. 9-10 from 11 a.m.-9 p.m. and Aug. 11 from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Check out ChicagoHistory.com for more info.

The Chicago History Museum, located just north of downtown in the Old Town neighborhood, offers a number of exhibits, programs and tours highlighting everything from the history of blues music to Abraham Lincoln’s impact on Chicago and facing freedom across the country. Launched this spring, Silverscreen to Mainstream: American Fashion in the

1930s and ‘40s, is a fascinating exhibit that showcases various fashions from Paris, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles and how the glitz and glamour of Hollywood was able to reach all classes in the 1930s and ‘40s despite it being a tumultuous time in American history. LONDON HISTORY The famed Chicago Art Institute is home to one of best, most expansive art collections anywhere in the world — and exploring it can easily occupy an entire day if you allow for it. Coming to close Sept. 5 is Everyone’s Art Gallery: Posters of the London Underground. The exhibit boasts 100 posters, some of which arrived at the Art Institute a century ago, from the Underground Electric Railways London. River North Art District Chicago’s River North neighborhood is thriving today, serving as the city’s epicenter for nightlife, hotels and shopping. But that wasn’t always the case. After nine years as a sit-down BBQ establishment, owner/chef Charlie McKenna made some changes to his award-winning Wicker Park spot this past spring, including moving to expedited counter service, wood-accented walls and new menu items like Texas brisket and pimento cheese sausage.
