THE GINO’S EAST “DEEP AF” PIZZA TAKES DEEP DISH TO A WHOLE NEW LEVEL BY TRENT MODGLIN As good as something is, you can always make it better. That philosophy holds true with a lot of things in life, and Gino’s East — even with its 50-year history and national reputation for iconic deep-dish pizza — is no different. The most recent example is their “Deep AF” option, a play on popular social media lingo. In short, it’s an upgrade to Gino’s original medium deepdish pizza, adding a stomachgrowling 75 percent more cheese, 33 percent more dough and double the toppings — all for just $4 more than the normal medium pie. “It’s always been our identity, and it’s about us going back to where we started,” says Gino’s Maggie Keeler. “We don’t have an avocado, gluten-free pizza or anything. This is who we are, and it’s been a fun new option on the menu.” Sounds fun, indeed. Especially at the River North location (500 N. LaSalle), where they also brew their own craft beer and host comedy shows six nights a week in the third-floor Comedy Bar. “It’s really a crazy experience when we’re serving this pizza to a table of people, just to see their reactions,” Keeler adds. “People can’t wait to take photos and use the hash tag #DeepAF. It comes with the territory.” Gino’s East has four Chicago locations at 500 N. LaSalle, 162 E. Superior, 521 S. Dearborn and 2801 N. Lincoln. GinosEast.com
