TOO HOT TO HANDEL The glorious reinvention of Handel’s Messiah celebrates the life of MLK Jan. 18-19 at the Auditorium Theatre Sure, it may very well be cold this time of year in Chicago, but the vibes will be warm and welcoming inside the historic Auditorium Theatre Jan. 18-19 as Chicago’s Too Hot to Handel Choir brings to life the music of Handel’s famous work, The Messiah (dating back to 1741) — with a rhythmic, modern twist drawing from a variety of musical genres. Celebrated soloists Rodrick Dixon, Alfreda Burke and Karen Marie Richardson, as well as Detroit pianist Alvin Waddles, join more than 100 Chicago singers and musicians for this
entertaining take on Handel’s classic oratorio filled with gospel, rock, jazz and blues that will lift your soul. The goal of these annual performances is to honor Dr. Martin Luther King’s achievements and vision. Called a “joyously interactive, everybody-clap-your-hands experience,” this is an inspirational celebration of religion, music and life not to be missed.
