African-American artist Shirley Mae Springer Staten and Mexican writer Gabriela Olmos interviewed 69 Anchorage children from different ethnic origins and social-economic backgrounds. The children were asked four basic questions. “what do you dream for yourself, for your family, and for your community?” and “why are dreams important?” The children’s answers were uplifting and inspiring. 19 stories were displayed on 4’ x 8’ exhibit panels and placed throughout the city. The Eyes Closed book brings those stories to the out-of-state audience.
