The strangest thing Laura Langone ever had to find insurance coverage for in her career? Mice. While working at a biotech company, Langone had to value to cost of mice for the company’s property policy. Today, Langone is senior director of risk and insurance at PayPal, the global online payments company. Prior to joining PayPal, Langone ran the enterprise risk management and insurance program for Juniper Networks, a computer networking technology company. Langone got her start in insurance as an underwriter for AIG and has held various risk management positions since. She’s also an active member of RIMS. Her favorite thing about working in risk management, she says, is “the creativity and the ability to dig deep into different parts of an organization and understand risks from each segment” and having “the opportunity to really solve difficult questions.” There are 173 million active accounts on PayPal. PayPal is present in 203 markets and 26 currencies around the world.

When Gus Fuldner joined Uber, he had exactly zero insurance experience, and the ridesharing service was in a real bind – carriers didn’t want to cover their drivers. But Fuldner’s tenacity, meticulous nature and ability to out-think insurance lawyers resulted in a real coup: Insurance carriers dropped their objections to Uber, and many even designed programs especially for ridesharing services. “Had Gus not singlehandedly gone around the country, Uber would potentially be out of business,” Andrew Boron, former director of the Illinois Department of Insurance, told Buzzfeed. “The regulatory landscape would be vastly different.”

ABB provides a range of products and solutions that enable utility, industry, transport and infrastructure customers to improve performance and lower environmental impact. Michelle Oroschakoff is responsible for company-wide risk management, compliance and governance programs, and is chair of the risk and oversight committee at LPL Financial, the nation’s largest independent broker-dealer based on total revenue. She joined LPL from Morgan Stanley, where she was managing director and global chief risk officer.
