Gross Area: 120,000 square feet

The Hawaii Hochi building by Kenzo Tange served as the headquarters for Hawaii’s first Japanese newspaper. It is currently unoccupied.

An adaptive reuse proposal for the Hawaii Hochi building.

The design proposal should be focused on both intergenerational affordable housing as well as CLT construction.

Proposals presented to Kamehameha Schools, the landowner and developer of the project site.

To envision a new urban ensemble that is inclusive of all members of the community.

To address the affordable housing shortage in Honolulu.

To celebrate the rich cultural diversity and native building techniques.
