As we head into Spring, the days get longer and the temperatures start to rise. Winter can leave our skin feeling dry and itchy, and it's important to change up your skincare routine. Here are some skincare tips to incorporate into your Spring regimen to rock the perfect glow. Moisturize - your skin typically become oilier as the weather starts to warm up. Substitute your heavy duty creams for lighter serums and lotions.

Protect - since the sun stays out longer, it is important to protect your skin against its harmful rays. Be sure to wear sunscreen with at least a 15 SPF rating.

Exfoliate - your skin will have some damage from the Winter season. Use a gentle exfoliant a few times a week to remove dead skin and keep your complexion bright.

Nutrition - incorporate fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants to improve the tone and appearance of your skin.

Spring clean - throw away any skincare or makeup that are older than six months, as expired items can host a buildup of bacteria.

Creative Director’s Letter

Dear ladies and gents, So many of us had new year resolutions on January first. Some may have wanted to lose weight, save money, get in the gym? My new year resolution was to do good and to continue to live a fulfilling life. But the question is always the same, how do I take steps to achieve? Number one, doing good can happen every day. I wanted more. Last summer as many of you saw in the LAPALME Fall issue, I went to the enchanting country of Malta. On my way home I had a quick stop in London and met with the organization that has changed my life forever. Just a Drop is an international nonprofit that helps underdeveloped communities provide clean water. This was exactly what I was looking for. This March I joined their efforts and traveled to Nicaragua to tour their efforts first hand. Read more about it in this issue. It was life changing for me and I hope you will appreciate the work they do and support. We are all citizens of the world. On a lighter front, but something I am just as passionate about, I am in my second year as LAPALME Magazine’s Creative Director. We have been through so much in the last year and we all feel lucky to continue bringing you wonderful content. Someone that has been on our radar for quite some time is our fabulous new cover star, Shay Mitchell. Due to her show, my total guilty pleasure, Pretty Little Liars she has become a social media star and may be one of the coolest girls I have ever worked with. A glamor gal for sure I wanted to do something a bit more soulful with her and I think we have hit the nail on the head. For our men’s cover, I had the chance to work with a star on the rise, Josh Henderson. I don’t watch very much tv but Josh’s show The Arrangement is a must see. The new E! star was a blast to work with. I’m excited for everyone to see his photos, they were a change of look for him but I think he pulled it off with star quality

SEEING THE 2017 COLOR OF GREEN THE YEAR By: Karen LeBlanc @designtourist

Green is one of those colors rich in meaning—there’s green with envy, green as environmentally friendly, and the literal green, a mix of the primary colors blue and yellow. This year, green means style as the “it” color in fashion, consumer products and home interiors. Pantone, the global color forecasting agency, picked Greenery 15-0343 as the 2017 Color of the Year calling it nature’s neutral. Pantone believes we all need a little greenery to restore, revive and renew. “Greenery conveys a message of health and represents consumer desire to express unique identity and connect with others and a larger purpose,” says Laurie Pressman, Vice-President Pantone Color Institute. This yellow-green shade lends itself to many color combinations, pairing well with neutrals, brights, deeper shades, pastels, and metallics in palettes that cross over into consumer products, home decor and fashion. To capitalize on the color hype, many companies are rolling out products in Pantone’s Greenery hue as evidenced in art, architecture, beauty, home interiors, fashion and travel.

Airbnb Outside In House, London

Airbnb partnered with Pantone to celebrate Greenery’s glory in the Outside In House in London that features an indoor greenhouse doubling as a dining room, a garden bedroom with a mown lawn, topiaries and soporific plants, a tented nook for children to sleep in and an herb garden kitchen. In recent projects, designers are embracing this yellow-green as a foundation color pairing it with whites and browns for a back-to-nature color palette. Here are five ideas for making a style statement with Pantone’s 2017 Color of the Year Greenery.

1

Add A Pop of Greenery People are getting their green fix from a wide range of products in shades of green ranging from coffee makers to luxury cars. A sofa or chair upholstered in Greenery makes a design statement that says you are up on the latest looks.

2

Colorblock with Greenery Color blocking in the kitchen has emerged as a strong design trend. Appliances painted in Greenery such as BlueStar’s oven and range hood add a block of color to the kitchen in combination with other neutrals.

3

Plant a Living Wall

Instead of green painted walls, today’s stylish homes are integrating living walls and moss walls as design elements. These living, breathing walls bring in fresh air and make a visual and tactile design statement.

4

Make a Fashion Statement

Wear Greenery for a style statement taking cues from the catwalk. The color Greenery commanded the couture runways during the latest fashion shows with brand-name designers from Balenciaga and Gucci to Kenzo, all coloring clothing in shades of green.

5

Get a Greenery Makeover

Add a dose of Greenery to your beauty routine with eyeshadows, lipsticks, nail lacquers and fragrances in the hue. Some fashionistas are taking the 2017 Color of the Year next level with green-dyed hairdos.

Whether a home interior refresh or a fashion statement, Pantone believes a dose of green brings good things as we tune into the shade’s transformative powers aesthetically, physically and spiritually.

SHAY MITCHELL THE NEXT CHAPTER By Jessica Finn @jessicafinnnyc

Shay has been steadily building her massive fan base. From her beautifully curated Instagram, her own eyeshadow line with Smashbox and being an inspiration for the LGBT community by opening the dialogue for youths struggling to come out that have watched her lesbian character of Emily on Pretty Little Liars, Shay has learned about the importance of structure.

How is it possible to balance it all? “You need to know how to prioritize things, while keeping your work ethic steady. You really need to understand balancing several things at once. I’ve learned how to balance both life and play, it can’t be one extreme or the other.” Being as beautiful and successful as Shay is its hard not to ask who she is dating, what she did for Valentine’s Day and how things are going in the romance department, but really she’s like the rest of the hard working singles population. “I had a big date! All of my girls and I went out for dinner. You can celebrate with loved ones on all different kinds of levels. I’m having fun right now and I have a lot of great people in my life. I’m just really enjoying myself.” With so many ongoing projects, Shay begins to reflect on her time on Pretty Little Liars. “It’s been really fun and honestly I think it’s going be a great season. This is a season for the fans! It’s going to have all the questions answered, its been just so amazing and the writers did a ton of work. We are going to be giving all the answers, we promise everything will be answered. And everyone will be glued to their seats- it will be a real surprise at the series end.” When things ends, it brings new beginnings, and new projects are in store for the actress. “I shot Cadaver right after Pretty Little Liars. It was so amazing to jump from one project to another. It’s a psychological thriller horror movie. The character is a recovering addict, so I did my own research with Alcoholic Anonymous groups for certain scenes. I really wanted to understand that realm. It will be in theaters this summer.”

Green and silver trimmed bralette, short and robe by Imme Collection. pearl and emerald toned earrings by Zayver Designs & watch and sterling heavy bracelets by Loree Rodkin

Life moves fast. Shay is not the kind of woman to let it pass her by. “In the next five years I would like to start a family. I grew up with a tight family with my brother. And, I would want that for me. But right now I’m doing things that are selfish, I want to have fun and be in the moment, and enjoy those stages, and when it happens, it happens.” With a career on fire, and big plans for the future, Shay still manages to stay fit, be healthy and has become a style icon for her generation. Based off her Instagram and her mega following (16.5 Million!) people are paying attention. “I think style is always evolving and my style is affected by how I wake up in the morning. I get to work with a stylist that I love and it’s fun to come up with different looks. It’s really a reflection of my mood and how I’m feeling that day for sure. Some days you want to be a flower child and some days I want to be in all black and motorcycle boots.” There’s one thing thats a constant thoughthat flawless skin. “I always wash my face in the morning and at night. I’m a huge fan of Bioré because it works really well with my skin, and if I don’t have alot to do I try to keep my make-up light. Some mascara and tinted moisturizer for light days.” As for her workouts, its more consistency. “You have to do what you like so it doesn’t feel like working out. I like to do boxing and dance, things where you are having fun and burning calories at the same time. I also try to eat every morning before I start my day so I’m not grabbing something bad during the day. I also like to have snacks on me. I want to work out and eat right so I can indulge when I want.” Instagram @shaymitchell

GETTING SHADE

Going Seaside for a Staycation at two Premier LA Hotels By Dawn Garcia @dawngarcia

Nothing is as relaxing as being seaside in LA. A city that’s overflowing with a wealth of options, we wanted to break away from the hustle and bustle of the crowds and head towards the water. In other words, it was time for a staycation. We love the beachside cities in Southern California ranging from San Diego to Malibu so we ended up in two beach towns that fall somewhere in between: Manhattan Beach and Redondo Beach.

34

Manhattan Beach got its name in a coin toss in 1901 when land owners George Peck and John Merrill failed to agree what to call it so they settled it the gentlemen’s way: a good old fashioned game of heads or tails. Peck won. Named after his hometown of Manhattan, New York, it has since evolved into an upscale beachside metropolis known for its new culinary landscape, legendary volleyball courts and wealthy appeal. SHADE MB opened its doors over eleven years ago. Much like its name suggests, the property is composed of shades that mimic the sand and shore only a few blocks away: soft blues, cream, sage, and grey. All of which incite a certain sense of tranquility. Owner and restaurateur Michael Zislis’ vison was to create a boutique hotel that would allow every guest to experience something refined and exceptional. The rooms are each designed with rich accents of wood and soothing tones so you feel like you’ve slipped into a much needed escape the moment you enter in. With service perks like a glass of champagne each evening, homemade juices each morning, beach cruisers available to use during the day, and the relaxation pool, you’ll find yourself slipping into total calm. The cuisine and cocktail program at Zinc is also something to explore. Our favorite was the vegetarian panang curry bowl, pan-roasted Scottish salmon, and the paella. For drinks? We loved the signature SHADE cocktail with basil and strawberry and for the wine and bubbles lovers? They have a well dressed list to choose from. When it’s time to head out and explore, you are in the epicenter of luxury. You can stroll down the beach walk with a coffee and croissant in hand from one of the quaint nearby café’s, stop in for some shopping at the boutique shops lining the streets, and even get a workout in at the famed volleyball courts that have hosted some of the most prestigious tournaments in the world. After a day of exploring, head back to the hotel for a treatment at Trilogy Spa. The spa is surreal. Candles line the hallways, the masseurs are patient and thoughtful and the Lehua Honey Bar will change your life! Just imagine being drizzled with warm honey as rain water runs over you, your fatigued muscles are massaged and every inch of your stress melts away. It’s definitely a must! At the end of the day, grab a glass of bubbles, head to your room, slip into your Sanijet™ spa tub with color therapy, and finish the evening in your Tempurpedic bed. That said, with spring now here and ready? During the day, head to the rooftop, order a cocktail from the bar and get ready to bask in the California sun!

SHADE Hotel Manhattan Beach | Modern and Serene 1221 N. Valley Drive
Manhattan Beach, CA 90266 $350-$750 per night ((based on season and occupancy)

35

Redondo Beach is a beach town that has over two hundred years of history. While today it is a cultural mecca and rising star in terms of tourism, it’s past is a colorful one. From being the tourist location in the 1800’s to being a place where mobsters flocked to during prohibition to being the place where steamboats and fishermen alike preferred to dock, it is rich in story. It’s history, intrigue, pier and marina full of gorgeous sailboats and yachts give it the charm every proper beach town should have so it’s no surprise this is the newest location of the second SHADE Hotel. Having just opened its doors this past November, this boutique hotel is a slight upgrade from the Manhattan Beach location. The restaurant, Sea Level, is filled with bright accents, artistic appeal and an outdoor wall filled with bright green succulents facing out to the water as the name suggests. Staying true to the color scheme, the shades at this locale are slightly lighter and more subdued with a more apparent homage to modern minimalism. The location is located right on the waterfront. The view from the rooms is a view of the harbor where every morning you are greeted with beautiful yachts, sailboats and a few sea lions that aren’t afraid to say hello. While the architecture here is similar, it has a few new features including the crisp lines, brand new rooms featuring art by local artists, a gorgeous penthouse stocked with a bar and inroom keg, a bath tub big enough for four people and a sauna steam shower! While there are a hundred reasons to stay here, we can think of one that seals the deal: your very own soaking tub on your patio. Yes, EVERY patio! So while your bed is cozy, your room is refined, it’s the balcony where you’ll want to spend your nights basking in the soaking tub, looking out onto the water with a glass of scotch in hand. Or champagne or a cocktail. Either way, it’s to die for! So as the warmth of the sun kisses our pasty winter skin, we have yet another reason to love this seaside hotel. Dining at Shade RB is also something of a revelry. Chef Aaron Robbins has crafted a dining menu that appeals to every flavor palate imaginable. From brunch to dinner you will be wowed. Our absolute must-haves are the French Toast (seriously, this is heaven), the fennel sausage pizza (substitute sausage for mushroom to make it vegetarian), his citrus cured Hamachi rolled in cucumber and soaked in yuzu, the curry ramen noodles (phenomenal!), and his desserts like the passion fruit crème brûlée. They also have an impressive wine and beer list as well as a mixology program that will quench your thirst. Lastly, be sure to note that should you want to have an event here? Their rooftop is sublime. Sweeping views overlooking the water, a space fit for your vision and the most important part? It won’t cost you an arm and a leg. While you’re there, take time to stroll the pier. Stop in at Quality Seafood for some freshly picked oysters or select a golden snapper and have them grill it on site. You will not find more worthy seafood that is not only sustainably caught and sourced but exquisitely fresh! Then walk down to Old Tony’s for one of their famous Mai Tai’s and a 360-view of the harbor itself. After a hearty drink and the fact that spring has officially sprung, you can also indulge in their rooftop pool with the best views of the city, seeing all the way to Palos Verdes on a clear, sunny California afternoon.

36

The GIST SHADE Hotel Redondo Beach | Romance and Luxury 655 North Harbor Drive
Redondo Beach, CA 90277 $350-$1200 per night (based on season and occupancy)

Overall, SHADE hotels offer something LA is hungry for: escape, luxury, impeccable service, the beach and a whole lot of history. Each location has beach cruisers available for use, champagne greetings every evening, wonderful food and beverage programs and well thought out décor. Nothing here takes away from the beauty of its surroundings and that is something to celebrate! In other words, this is most definitely in our “Hotels You Must Stay At” list! www.shadehotel.com

Since 2009, Sampha appeared on every big artist’s album - Frank Ocean’s Endless, Kanye West’s The Life of Pablo, Solange’s A Seat At The Table - without ever dropping a full length album of his own. Sure, he has two EP’s - Sundanza (2010) and Dual (2013) - but he waited to make his grand entrance. As a musician, Sampha is a man of chess. He conducts his songwriting with precise, intentional moves - the moves of a musician that wants his work to be just that, grand. The London singer/songwriter found himself perfectly perched between multiple genres of music, a position not found too often in the industry. Sampha delivers R&B, soul, electronica, and dance seamlessly in Process. Opening the album with Plastic 100C, he lets us into his mind while proving how swiftly he can climb scales and soften the highest of notes. In Reverse Faults, Sampha chooses strong falsettos that hit forceful, leaving the listener wanting more. Sampha is a powerful singer with powerful delivery, (No One Knows Me) Like The Piano and Take Me Inside allow us to sink into the depths of his emotions and feel the weight of his words. What makes Process truly exceptional is the delicate focus on relationships destroyed and corroded by time and unintentional neglect. Incomplete Kisses, the project’s most straightforward anthem brings you deep into the vulnerability laid bare and the emotional turbulence of grief and helplessness. Sampha is blessed with a very distinct style of singing and Process keeps his vocals in their rightful position centre stage. Process may seem like an album created for deeply seeded personal reasons, even the title suggests Sampha wrote it for the sake of writing it, but it never feels unwelcoming or self-centered. Sampha may have written it for himself, but listening to it is an absolute delight.

SOLEDAD O’BRIEN EMPOWERING YOUNG WOMEN EVERYWHERE

Soledad O’Brien is one of today’s most respected broadcast journalists and documentarians. Born and raised in St. James, New York by immigrant parents who were not only driven but supportive, O’Brien’s upbringing no doubt Photos By: Eric Espada / Starfish contributed to her approach to telling compelling stories covering a gamut of Foundation PowHERful social issues. O’Brien grew up as one of six children; each with their own amSummit Los Angeles bitions who have gone on to be doctors, lawyers and entrepreneurs. Soledad O’Brien’s career began in broadcasting working with CNN as a co-anchor on American Morning, she also created and produced “Black in America”, “Latino in America”, has since gone on to work with multiple networks, including HBO’s “Real Sports with Bryant Gumbel” and her present show on the Hearst Network called, “Matter of Fact with Soledad O’Brien”. Named one of the “10 People That Make America Great”, she is a documentary filmmaker and is also the CEO of the newly renamed PowHERful Foundation founded with her husband, Brad Raymond after witnessing the devastating effects of Hurricane Katrina. She is a philanthropist, editor, author of two books and has authored several op-ed pieces in New York Daily News and HuffingtonPost. Interview By: Dawn Garcia @dawngarcia

Recently having renamed what was originally the Starfish Media Foundation to PowHERful, O’Brien has taken the message even further. She has been touring the country empowering and supporting young women of every ethnicity and cultural background assisting them with their futures. From college scholarships to mentoring, she is one of the most influential and important voices in the world of today’s media. The name PowHERful says it all. We wanted to learn more about everything on the docket for 2017, and gain a bit more insight into the beginning of PowHERful and its present evolution. When you went to cover Katrina in 2005, do you remember the first young woman you came across that ignited the beginnings of what would become the PowHERful Foundation? Yes of course. Alexia. Alexia joined us as a 7th grader. She will graduate this year. She symbolized the very young women we wanted to support. A girl who was smart and hard-working and who needed some financial support to fulfill her dream of going to college. I think she helped us recognize that by targeting young women who weren’t necessarily “straight A” students, we could really have an impact supporting ambitious girls who were work hard. Recently announced, you’ve officially changed the Starfish Foundation to the PowHERful Foundation. We are so excited that we are now the PowHERful Foundation. It’s a great fit for our mission, letting young women understand how powerful they are - and can be - when they advocate for themselves and their education. I LOVE our name! In all of the genuinely horrific things you’ve seen as a journalist and documentarian, what pushes you to still be willing to see the positivity and potential and be so passionate about PowHERful? I don’t know that there’s another alternative. I believe in calling out bad people and bad things and supporting those who are working hard toward being successful. Everyone needs support to get through college. Everyone.

Soledad and husband Bradford Raymond

In an ever growing nation so clearly divided, how do you maintain the mission of not only inspiring young women but motivating them to be an active part of the future? I don’t think an ugly and partisan divide means you give up on the future. That would be ridiculous. If anything, now is the time that young women need to make their voices heard. They won’t always agree, even with each other, but the American ideal that diversity is our nation’s strength is being tested. And I don’t think now is the time to stand by silently. How do you balance it all? I am on a plane right now in a dress and sneakers because I no longer run through airports in heels! I don’t think about balance. I think about getting stuff done. What has been one of the more humbling experiences of your career? Every moment is humbling. Trying to figure out how to navigate difficult situations is sort of the job description, for both a journalist and an entrepreneur. O’Brien has been an anchor on some of the world’s most recognized news networks and has told stories that have shown some of the most difficult events happening in modern time. Her passion to tell compelling stories that are not simply “news” but those with depth and relevance is why she continues to Soledad and fitness guru Massy Arias be a well-respected voice in journalism. As a wife and mother to four children ranging from high school to grade school, she doesn’t let her work interfere with her family. While admittedly, that’s not always easy, we asked her how she manages. LM: Have any of your children ever asked you about some of the difficult stories you’ve covered? If so, what do you say as to both educate and protect their innocent views of the world? We are pretty careful about details we share. My daughters are high schoolers. They’re much more aware than they were when I covered Katrina. With the younger kids we keep it very simple about what I am covering.

42

Now having an organization geared towards empowering young women, we wanted to know what the plan for PowHERful is. What is your goal for 2017 in terms of PowHERful and the scholarships awarded? What will be some of the biggest changes moving forward? 2017 is a big year for us. With a shift in the American workforce we find that there’s a real focus on teaching students about collaboration and working in teams. I was good at memorizing facts but there’s a big shift in moving away from that to solving problems - and that’s a very good thing. We are partnering with big multinational organizations around PowHERful, so we can reach thousands of young women, and as always, we help girls get TO and THROUGH college, which means underwriting scholarships, tuition and tutoring. Most exciting news is we’ve got 8 scholars graduating from college this year! What cities are on your roster for the 2017/2018 PowHERful Enrichment Conferences? April 15 - Jacksonville, May 13 - Atlanta, July 15- NYC, August 26 - Minneapolis, September 23 - Cleveland If you could imagine what the ideal next 5 years will be like for PowHERful, Real Sports, journalism, motherhood, life, and travel, what does that look like? The next 5 years will be busy: they always are. Getting students through school is hard work, mentoring young women is hard work, reporting at a time when journalists are under attack by the President of the United States is hard work. But that’s all okay - I like to be busy! While some things may not be as clearly defined as they once were in terms of media and broadcasting, one thing’s for certain: Soledad O’Brien is part of the progress and the solution of responsible journalism. As the year unfolds, be on the lookout for the PowHERful Enrichment Conferences that may be happening around you. Each conference is meant to inspire all young women to tackle their hopes and dreams and know their future is not only possible, but tangible. www.powherful.org

HOMEGROWN BEAUTY Easy Natural Recipes for A Fresh New You

T

Written By: Natasha Grayson Photography by: Terelle Vaughn

There is a true convenience that comes along with the recipes in Hello Glow. Author Stephanie Gerber has provided a book full of conveniences. The recipes in this book provide an alternative for spending money and time outside the house, or online, shopping for products that will satisfy your beauty needs.

Whipping up these products in the kitchen is as simple as measuring and mixing a few products together. Fulfilling household chores, spending time with your family, and tending to business affairs can all be done while your Rose-Almond Oil is infusing. As the washing machine fills with water for a new cycle, you can mix together and apply your Matcha Green Tea Facial. While your Monday morning espresso is steeping, prepare your Rose + Aloe Vera Post-Workout Face Wipes for the week. Hello Glow provides beneficial products for most skin or hair types. If you are unsure about which recipes you will benefit from, the benefits of the individual ingredients and tools needed to prepare the recipes are detailed in the beginning of the book. If you just so happen to need it, the Beauty Glossary in the back of the book will assist with figuring out terms used in the description of the products. Here are just a few of these concoctions to wet your appetite!

APPLE AT-HOME SKIN PEEL Apple cider vinegar is so unforgiving while sitting near your nose, however, once you pass the smell, the moist feeling that this skin peel leaves is totally worth it.

SCRUMPTIOUS COCONUT-LIME LIP SCRUB This product is a trap! The scrub exfoliates well, however, your mind will quickly pass over that fact because it makes you think that you have just smeared the world’s greatest dessert all over your lips! I felt like Little Nemo; “Just keep smearing, smearing, smearing…” I found myself continually applying more and more because the taste kept me caught in the moment and it felt so right!

ROSE-ALMOND BODY OIL The name says it all with this product. Infusing the Almond oil with roses adds sensuality to sensible choice for skin moisture.

HIBISCUS BLISS WHIPPED MOISTURIZER One word describes this product: Luxurious! The smell of this lotion make you feel as if your income match that of a Fortune 500 CEO! The whipped texture feels airy while the hibiscus provides the perfect complement to coconut oil to create the richest naturally herbal scent.

GREEN TEA FACIAL TONER If you would like to try a toner, but do not usually use toner, this is a good place to start. It does the job. It’s in your kitchen. Done.

ROSE-ALOE VERA POST WORKOUT FACE WIPES Immediate addiction! These wipes are cooling as soon as the liquid touches the skin the temperature of the skin feels like it drops. The skin stays cool for about 3 minutes then begins to feel ultra-moisturized. These wipes are exactly what the body needs to feel refreshed after any exposure to heat.

STYLE LIKE A CELEB INSIDER TIPS TO SHOPPING THE BEST STORES IN AMERICA

By: Katie Golacinski @ktgol And Derek Warburton @derekwarburton

Every city has their own personality just like the people who shop there. While the style and people may vary from city to city, these major shops all have something in common. Celebrities and socialites from all over flock to these cities to shop the best of the best, and now you can too. These stores offer everything from Alexander Wang to underground designers you’ve never heard of. The likes of Kanye West, Rhianna, Rachel Zoe, Kendall Jenner and many more have all been seen shopping the racks of these stores. Our Creative Director and Celebrity Stylist, Derek Warburton shares with us why he loves these stores by giving us a deeper look into what these stores are all about and what makes them unique. In New York City, for the One-Stop shop, head to Domenico Vacca. For Sex in the City fans, INA is a must go to for you. On the opposite coast, a NYC favorite, What Goes Around Comes Around, just opened in Beverly Hills. Headed down south? Go to sloan/hall for unique home décor and greeting cards. If you’re stopping in Chicago head to Ikram, a store that most literally embodies fashion. Heading down to Miami to soak up the sun? Stop by the Webster for the latest Chanel accessory or Dior bag. While there is so much to talk about and to do, we wanted to share with you our Insider Secrets. So you too can hit up all the major new and used stores, get the rundown on where we slept, best restaurants to eat, places to play and what to experience.

This Is Where You Belong: The Art and Science of Loving the Place You Live

By Melody Warnick (Penguin Publishing Group $18.57)

In the Company of Women: Inspiration and Advice from over 100 Makers, Artists, and Entrepreneurs By Grace Bonney (Artisian $20.83)

Over 100 exceptional and influential women describe how they embraced their creative spirit, overcame adversity, and sparked a global movement of entrepreneurship. Media titans and ceramicists, hoteliers and tattoo artists, comedians and architects—taken together, these profiles paint a beautiful picture of what happens when we pursue our passions and dreams.

The average restless American will move 11.7 times in a lifetime. For Melody Warnick, it was move #6, from Austin, Texas, to Blacksburg, Virginia, that threatened to unhinge her. In the lonely aftermath of unpacking, she wondered: Aren’t we supposed to put down roots at some point? How does the place we live become the place we want to stay? This time, she had an epiphany. What Warnick learns will inspire you to embrace your own community—and perhaps discover that the place where you live right now . . . is home.
