B
elleville School Board Trustee Erika Jacho was found guilty of drunken-driving among other offenses by a municipal court judge in Verona. The conviction stems from an October 2020 incident; the trial was moved to Verona since she is an elected official in Belleville and lasted about four hours in late October.
Whilst testifying, Belleville School Board Trustee Erika Jacho claimed The Observer published a front page story the same day she was arrested. That was untrue. The newspaper didn’t publish the story until two weeks later, on Nov. 4, 2020.
Perjurious testimony Jacho, in an unusual move,
took the stand in her own defense — and in doing so, quickly perjured herself by proffering false information about how this newspaper covered her 2020 arrest. Jacho testified under oath, under the punishment of perjury, The Observer, within six hours of her arrest, had her story on its front page. Not possible. Jacho was arrested Oct. 21, 2020 — a Wednesday. That edition of this once-aweek newspaper went to print/ bed Monday, Oct. 19, 2020. See JACHO, Page 18

Some of the athletes who tested positive for the virus last week said that they indeed were at the Halloween party. Regardless of where it started – and
doing district-wide virus tracing – the football team had to forfeit its game against Northern Valley/Old Tappan in the NJSIAA North Jersey Section 1, Group III playoffs Friday night and the girls’ soccer team had to forfeit its game in the North Jersey Section 2, Group III playoffs against Cranford, also scheduled for Friday in Nutley. Both programs were immediately
shut down and after the forfeit losses, the seasons of both teams came to a crashing halt. Nutley athletic director Joe Piro said that the moves to forfeit both games were imperative for the safety of all the schools involved, not just Nutley. “We met with health officials
