Isaias leaves trail of destruction locally, adding to the misery of 2020
By Kevin Canessa kc@theobserver.com Tropical Storm Isaias reaked havoc on the area, causing numerous trees to fall and power to be knocked out — in some cases for days — on the region. By the time the storm reached the area, it was
downgraded from a hurricane, but that hardly meant it didn’t leave destruction in its path. As seen in the photos above, clockwise from left photo, two trees fell on Elm Street between Garafola Place and Midland Avenue in Kearny. In another case, a tree fell on a home on Seeley Avenue, Kearny. And it also uprooted an entire tree on Hickory Street, also in Kearny.
PSE&G called the storm the worst since Super Storm Sandy in 2012 — and also listed it as one of the top 5 storms in modern history. As of presstime, 5% of all outages still hadn’t been restored. Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported by any of the towns The Observer covers. This story continues on page 16, where you’ll find more photos of storm-related damages.
