STAYING CALM As COVID-19 spreads globally, steps being taken to keep communities safe

n consultation with the Kearny Board of Health, town officials and the Hudson County Department of Education, all Kearny Public Schools will close for two weeks beginning Monday, March 16. The district used an available snow day on Monday, March 16, and classes were to resume with an online learning plan beginning on Tuesday, March 17. Further information, including hours
during which administration and staff may be reached, will be emailed to all students through their Kearny School accounts and to parents via Genesis and Blackboard Connect. Students will not report to school. They will begin to access their learning materials and home learning assignments via internet access and/or paper-based assignments sent home. Information will continue to be posted on the district website, via email or sent through

our Kearny residents have self-quarantined themselves over a potential exposure to the Coronavirus/COVID-19 and the town is investigating the possibility that one Kearny man has tested positive for the virus, the Town of Kearny has
announced. Town Health Officer Ken Pincus says the town is still investigating, as of Friday, March 13, whether the parent of two children at Kearny Christian Academy/Loving Hands Daycare and Preschool legitimately tested positive for COVID-19. The pastor of City of Hope International Church, the sponsors of the
school and daycare, the Rev. David Manzo, sent out an e-notice late last week to parents with children enrolled in the school. “A little after 4 p.m. today (Thursday, March 12) we received a call from one of the parents of students in our pre-k 3 and pre-k 4 program stating that the parent (not the student) had tested positive for Coronavirus 2019
(COVID-19). At 5:30 p.m., we received confirmation from the doctor that this is a confirmed case,” Manzo wrote. “I spoke by phone with the parent who said that last week, he had mild flu-like symptoms and was surprised to hear he tested positive.
