Belleville High School Class of 2018’s Jordan Polite (left) and Nutley High School Class of 2018’s Frank Gabriele (right) commemorate the 242nd anniversary of the arrival and encampment of Gen. George Washington and the Continental Army in Second River Nov. 22, 1776, during their retreat from Fort Lee. The two newly-enrolled college students raised the ‘Continental Colors’ and the ‘Commander-in Chief’ flags in front of Belleville Town Hall. The Continental Colors with 13 red-and-white stripes and the British Union Jack in the upper corner was the first U.S. national flag in use before the better known Betsy Ross flag. The Commander-inChief flag was Washington’s personal flag that accompanied him wherever he went. Second River was the base of the 2nd Essex County Regiment during the American Revolution.
KPD
Continued from Page 8 avenues, recognized her from their prior work experience and knew that she had a warrant out for her arrest (Jersey City, $350 bail, receiving stolen property.) The officers took her into custody and in doing so, reportedly found that the Newport cigarette box she was holding contained two wax folds of heroin stamped “Harsh Times” and two Ziploc bags of cocaine. Docatis was sent to the county jail on a new warrant charging possession of the drugs and drug paraphernalia. *** Officers Bush, Victor Girdwood, Sergio Nobre and Chris Montes responded to the 200 block of Maple Street at 6:23 p.m. on a report of suspicious males walking into the
backyard of a vacant house. Upon arrival, they saw that the back door was open and they searched the home, but found no one inside. As the officers were locking up the residence, Christopher Zapata, 21, of Belleville, reportedly approached and told them he was there for his shirt, which he had left in the yard. While confabbing further about his business at the vacant property, police said, they found he was carrying two credit cards that belonged to other people. Zapata was arrested and sent to the county jail on a warrant charging two counts of theft of property lost, mislaid or delivered by mistake. *** [Blotter addendum: During this twoweek period, KPD officers arrested 14 alleged shoplifters aside from those detailed above — seven at Walmart, four at Kmart and three at ShopRite.]
