Nutley BOE picks DeMaio to replace Sherman By Ron Leir Special to The Observer

SOMEONE VERY FAMILIAR TO TOWNSHIP families has been named to fill a vacancy on the Nutley Board of Education created by the resignation of Brenda Sherman that took effect Dec. 31. Frank DeMaio, who has served as the municipal recreation superintendent since September 2012, was chosen from among 12 applicants to fill the one year remaining on Sherman’s term by a vote of the BOE on Dec. 17. DeMaio was to be sworn in — along with three other new school trustees elected to 3-year terms in November — at the board’s annual reorganization meeting Jan. 7. The newcomers — Ken Reilly, Teri Quirk and Erica Zarro — are replacing BOE incumbents Sal Balsamo, Ryan Kline and Debbie Russo, all of whom were voted out of office.
