P r o j e ct I n t r o

The museum of the Bible headquarters, located on the corner of Couch and N. Walker Avenue, is an 90,000 square foot multi-use facility housing gallery exhibits, museum collections, offices, and public spaces. In form, a central sloping courtyard is spanned by a bridging element, flanked by gallery and collection to the West and public spaces to the East. Inspired by the surrounding art deco context, the facade is an artistic abstraction of the stone clad buildings that line downtown OKC. The museum of the Bible’s mission is to preserve biblical artifacts and showcasing its relevance to the public. The staff itself is the backbone of the operation; their efforts are integral to bringing the ancient artifacts back in to the public perspective and revitalizing the relevance of the artifacts. Our mission is to celebrate their hard work by making them the focal point of the building and improving their work environment. The central sloping courtyard brings visitors to the sub-level lobby and atrium while the office spans the courtyard becoming a marquee for the facility. Light being vital to a happy working environment, the central office bridge is cladded in glass. A louvered shading system shades and protects the offices from the southern exposure and combines the panelized vocabulary of the stone veneer with the openness of the office bridge. In our previous research of optimal working environments, we found that the ideal working environment changes from person to person based on working habits. A fully collaborative environment can sometimes inhibit work productivity as well. To combat a claustrophobic working environment, the majority of the office floor plan is open providing space to rearrange desks for personal optimal performance, including desk separators for those who prefer a quieter workspace. As a final element to improve the satisfaction of the workspace, rooftop patios are placed atop the roof on the southern side of the building. These spaces create magnificent views of the central courtyard as well as the skyline, park, and other surrounding areas of the site. The patios also create a relaxing environment for the workers to take breaks, mingle with each other, and work on projects in an outdoor setting. By paying careful attention to the employees work environment and emphasizing their centrality to the success of the museum, we hope to have created the optimum conditions for productivity and enjoyment.
