This series was made for National Overdose Awareness Day on August 31st.

I initially posted the first set of images on social media, and I was contacted by Sonoran Prevention Works asking if I would be interested in showing my work at a conference on November 4th in Honolulu. I wanted to print these on acrylic from the second I took them, so I thought it would be fun to do that for the final project. Little did I know that Acrylics take 2 weeks to print and get shipped in, so y’all get to see some paper prints from Walgreens in the meantime! Luckily, they’ll get printed in time to show in-person!

This series is inspired by several locations around the world that referenced the Japanese Art of folding 1000 paper cranes to make a wish directly to address Overdose Awareness. They encourage the participant to fold their own paper cranes, and join in almost a community wide effort to fight stigma, create awareness, grieve, celebrate, and honor those we’ve lost.

These images directly reference situations that either have been relayed to me, or those from my personal experience. They’re meant to capture the gamut of emotion.
