ARTIST STATEMENT
I am a Jamaican self-taught, multi-disciplinary artist, curator, and research scholar currently conducting ongoing independent research into Jamaica’s modern and contemporary art history. My research and artistic practice revolves around the process of rediscovering and reclaiming my Afrikan heritage, as well as my experiences of being Black in a postcolonial Caribbean society.
My artistic practice consists of mixed media paintings, collage, murals, instillations, film and new media work which directly engage with the historicopolitical narratives of Black existence within the postcolonial context.
In addition to my career as an artist, I am currently completing a Masters of Government degree with a specialization in Comparative Politics and Political Theory at The University of the West Indies, Mona. I also work as a researcher at The Institute for Gender and Development Studies, Mona Unit, and have curatorial experience at The Olympia Gallery, the largest private gallery in Jamaica.
