KEVARNEY K.R., B. SC.I am a scholar, researcher and an artist. Learning, thinking, reasoning and creating are the limbs with which I traverse this world.
I pride myself on my abilities to learn quickly and fervently as well as my creative inclinations and problem solving proficiencies.
I am quite proficient with digital illustration and design software including: Adobe Suite (Lightroom, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier, CC Express), Sketchbook, Canva, among others.
The most important theme of my studies, research and artistic output is Afrocentrism; which, to my understanding, is an ideological approach which venerates and affirms the experiences of Afrikan people (both continental and in the diasporas. My art originates from a consciousness based upon my particular experience of being a Black Jamaican raised in the 21st Century.
UNDERLYING THEMES IN MY WORK
As a student of Basquiat, Condo, Warhol, and Haring, my art is heavily informed by their styles. My idiosyncratic pop art style features a heavy use of yellow, and frequent pop culture references especially celebrity, music and film references.
Fashion is one of my most fervent interests and an area from which I often draw inspiration. My digital pieces have profoundly interpreted runway and vintage collections, streetwear and fit pics.
I subscribe to the belief that the universe, and nature, reflect the divinity of femininity. Women (Afrikan women, in particular) are among my main subjects.
As a pioneer of a new paradigm of art, "MetaArt", my art explores the tenets of this school of thought, which are translation, transformation and transfiguration. My work is situated in the contemporary while appropriately informed by historical paradigms, styles, techniques and approaches.
MetaArt is essentially about translating the past into the present tense and transforming this to the future. It contemplates the past, present and future as simultaneous notions.
