Letter from the President Dear Comanche Trace Residents and Property Owners, It is hard to believe that the holidays are upon us. Fall is one of my favorite times of the year, especially in the Texas Hill Country.

It is a great time to be outdoors and enjoy the unique culture of the Texas Hill Country.

We have experienced another magnificent year at Comanche Trace as we continue to flourish and grow with new home construction and welcoming our new residents and members to the community. In addition, we have started planning our 2020 Tour of Homes, which will take place next fall.

The Texas Hill Country is attracting people from all over the country. We are excited about all of the new building activity taking place in Kerrville: Hobby Lobby, Harbor Freight, along with three other commercial projects. Also, construction will start soon for the new middle school. The existing middle school is positioned on 30 -acres of prime commercial property in town.

Kerrville has an extremely bright future, with the Hill Country being recognized as one of the top two wine destinations in the United States.

The beauty of the area continues to evolve. We are blessed to be a part of the Texas Hill Country environment and look forward to seeing you at Comanche Trace.

Word From the Board We were blessed with a beautiful and mild summer at Comanche Trace. We experienced nice showers at the beginning of the summer, which helped keep everything nice and green.

The community and facility look fantastic.

The team is doing a wonderful job of taking care of the manicured neighborhoods and common areas. We are very pleased that the new camera system has been installed.

A: Six years. We moved to Comanche from River Crossing (North of San Antonio) in May 2013. We lived in a Villa while our house was being built, which we moved into over the Fourth of July weekend, 2014.

A: We came here on a “Stay and Play,” and

took it up late in life. Mike enjoys golf as well, but since he still works, he does not play as much as Diane. We both enjoy watching golf on TV, more so the big tournaments of the PGA. Mike also enjoys watching college sports, more so than the pro sports.

Q: What are the names, ages and breeds of your pets?

A: We currently have two dogs, Bella and

Mollie. Bella is a 14-year-old Shih Tzu, and Mollie is a 10-year-old Dorkie, a combination of Dachshund and Yorkie.

Q: What made you choose that breed and those specific animals?

A: We used to have miniature dachshunds as 12

pets, but when Diane was working part time at our neighborhood veterinary clinic in Plano, a client came in with a basketful of Shih Tzu puppies, about 6 weeks old. Diane called Mike and told him to come see this puppy, known at the time as just Pork Chop, because he was the biggest puppy of all of them. He was black and white and ADORABLE! We took him home and named him Cooper and had him until just a couple of years ago. We loved his personality and everything about him, so when it was time

to get another dog, we went to a Shih Tzu breeder recommended to us by our veterinarian and bought Bella.

Mollie just came to us through a friend. We took her on a trial basis over one Labor Day weekend 10 years ago to see how she would get along with the other two dogs, and as they say, the rest is history. She is still here, and we love her!

Q: What are their favorite treats?

A: Anything edible! They have their dog treats

and love to get a tiny bite of meat occasionally.

Q: What is the farthest you’ve traveled together?

A: San Angelo! We know that’s not far, but

Mollie does not travel well. She hyperventilates whenever she is in a car, so we usually just get a pet sitter to stay at the house while we are out of town.

omanche Trace is so proud to support our community. Not only do we host many of these wonderful events, but our Members and Residents serve our community in countless ways.

From the James Avery Invitational and the Swing Against Breast Cancer events in October, to Trim the Tree in December, and our Bi-Annual Tour of Homes,

we are grateful to be able to give back to our wonderful community.

Trim the Tree Comanche Trace Members help make Christmas special for the children of Arms of Hope, formerly known as The Medina Children’s Home. Year after year, our gracious members gladly

adopt children from Arms of Hope and fulfill the Christmas wishes of over 100 children. Members bring wrapped gifts to our annual Trim the Tree event in December, where we relish in making

James Avery Invitational Golf Tournament This year’s tournament dates are October 11-13. The James Avery Invitational Tournament is in its 16th year and makes a donation to a local qualified 501(c)(3) nonprofit upon wrap up of the tournament.

Swing Against Breast Cancer Tournament This giving group of Comanche Trace Residents and Members host an auction at Comanche Trace, as well as a charity golf tournament.

“A breast cancer diagnosis can be shattering physically, emotionally and financially. Knowing this, the Comanche Trace community comes together each year to lend its support locally to those affected by this disease. Working with the Peterson

Health Foundation, the Comanche Trace community raises thousands of dollars for breast cancer patients.

The money is used to assist women and men undergoing breast cancer treatment with the substantial, non-covered medical expenses they encounter. Each fall, the Swing Against Breast Cancer Committee raises funds by sponsoring an auction and golf tournament at Comanche

Trace. The committee members donate their time and talents to organize the events and to assemble auction items generously donated by individuals and the business community of Kerrville. The Residents and Members of Comanche Trace generously support these efforts through their participation.”

Texas Hill Country Tour of Homes The bi-annual Tour of Homes at Comanche Trace is a wonderful event for all. It gives our Preferred Builders a great opportunity to showcase their craft, as well as an opportunity for our residents to show off the great place that they call home. Upon wrap up of our event, we excitedly make a donation to our local Lion’s Camp. The Texas Lion’s Camp is a fabulous beneficiary. Texas Lions Camp offers a number of camps each summer for children with physical disabilities, Down Syndrome and Type-1 Diabetes. They are able to offer camps to these families at no cost due to generous donations. They serve approximately 1,500 campers each summer and have provided camps to approximately 70,000 campers since inception.

Claudia Richner, Hill Country Crisis Center “The Hill Country Crisis Center (HCCC) serves Kerr, Kendall, Gillespie, Bandera and Kimble counties. The HCC is dedicated to stopping the cycle of violence, sexual assault and child abuse though education, intervention and assistance. It is a nonprofit that is funded by donations, grants, foundations and fundraising events.

All services are provided free: emergency shelter (pet friendly), trauma focused counseling and advocacy services. Services include legal aid and referrals (protective order, court accompaniment, legal

aid and more); crisis intervention (safety planning, transportation, SANE accompaniment and more); referrals and assistance for housing, employment, medical, car and food.

Team meeting, Debbie Solcher from the Office of the Governor’s Child Sex Trafficking Team expressed interest in hosting a free four-hour training on the Commercial Sexual Exploitation

There is a multi-agency approach with Kid Advocacy Place (KAP). This provides forensic interviews with children of reported sexual assault, physical abuse or who witness violence and is also a family advocacy for prevention services.

My role is that I sit on the Hill Country Crisis Council Board. I also sit on Kerrville Recovery Coalition Committee (KRCC) City Board, volunteer with the Kerrville First United Methodist Church (KFUMC), Mustard Seed Food Pantry @ Mount Wesley and assist the Wesleyan RN as requested, as well as volunteer at Raphael Free Health Clinic.”

Presently, HCCC is coordinating with Mercy Gate Ministries. At the last Kerr County Care Coordination

Helen Herd, Art2Heart (also formerly with the Hill Country Crisis Council) “I served the Hill Country Crisis Council for 12 years, first as a hotline volunteer in the Women’s Shelter and later also as a member of the Board of Directors. As a board member, I worked with Trevor Hyde of Comanche Trace in 2016-17 to secure a $25,000 donation from the Kemmerer Family Foundation to replace the dilapidated fence around the shelter property and a matching donation from another donor to be used in the remodel and upgrade of the building. I resigned from the board after the new fencing and remodel were completed.

In 2018, I joined the Board of Directors for Art2Heart, having been friends with the Executive Director, Lorraine LeMon, for a number of years.

She started Art2Heart in 2003 to create a positive presence in the community by educating elementary age children in the fine arts, performing arts, humanities, literature and music.

Serving economically disadvantaged children from ages 6-12 in Kerr and Kendall counties, their mission is to help young people apply the principles of positive choices in their everyday lives. Currently, Art2Heart provides after school, outreach and community classes at their office in the basement of the Kerr Arts and Cultural Center, located at 228 East Earl Garrett St. Although the programs are after school, they are very different from other after-school programs. Their programs are designed to accomplish a vision of helping young people discover their place in the world.

“Art2Heart has developed a unique blend of character building while teaching the arts, building on a strong belief that every individual has the innate talents and gifts to help them pursue and complete their purpose in life. With the correct guidance and patience, the programs are developing

leaders ‘one stage at a time.’ Art2Heart collaborates with other community service organizations such as the YMCA, DreamKamp, Boys and Girls Club, Bridging the Gap Hospice and the Salvation Army. Many of their alumnae students are now attending universities; some have completed a college education and are making a positive contribution to society. The programs are limited to a small number of students, so the focus can be on fulfilling the stated mission of helping young people integrate their talents and values into living and leading productive, responsible lives. Because of this mission, the parents and students must commit to the journey ‘Using the arts to reach the hearts — We change lives.’

Delayne Sigerman, City Council Place 4 “I have been privileged to serve Kerrville’s citizens on City Council since May of 2018. My role is to listen and pay attention to our citizens and work closely with the City Manager and other staff to make sure we are moving Kerrville forward in all aspects ( i.e. amenities, utilities, roads, tax issues, revitalization of certain areas, balancing our budget and much more).

Golf Tip

By Mark Côté For golfers in the South, the sad reality is beginning to set in: The golf season is winding down.

The temperatures are dropping, and we’re trying to sneak in any golf that’s left to be had before the colder temperatures hit us.

It’s right around this time of year that you should start putting together your checklist for the fall and winter months.

In fall golf, I’d spend the most time on the stuff I struggled with the most through the season. Grind on something you don’t want to grind on. It might not be fun to do, but dedicating time to parts of your game that have proven to be weaknesses all season will help to make them strengths going forward and get you prepared going into the spring time.

Why? Well, because of the conditions, you might be hitting the ball well, but not getting everything you expect out of your score.

As far as equipment goes, have your eye on any key purchases you might want to make when the new season rolls around. Do your research. Learn about any new technology for drivers, fairway woods, hybrids, wedges and putters.
