The 2018 Tour of Homes at Comanche Trace promises to serve as a centerpiece to what has already been a remarkable year.

This Tour of Homes is a fabulous showcase where six of the Hill Country’s top homebuilders show off their best work in a neighborhood that was created to feel like home.

PARKS The Kerrville River Trail allows you to enjoy the beauty of the Guadalupe River while walking or biking comfortably on a 10’ wide concrete trail. The 4-mile trail runs from KerrvilleSchreiner Park to the Riverside Nature Center. With the

pleasant fall weather, this is a must.

Climb the ancient dome for amazing Hill Country views at Enchanted Rock State Natural Area. Here you will find beautiful scenery and rock formations. There’s plenty to do: hike, backpack, camp, rock climb, picnic, birding, study nature, geocache and stargaze. Make sure to get there early; the park will close when capacity is reached.

Kerrville Independent School District is an accredited 5-A school district and is home to seven traditional campuses, one early childhood center and an academic alternative high school. KISD educates more than 5,000 students.

Our Lady of the Hills Regional Catholic High School is a private 86-acre college preparatory school committed to providing an excellent academic, value-based education for the children of the Texas Hill Country.

Comanche Trace has a storied history as one of the most recognizable properties in Kerr County as well as the City of Kerrville.

Bobby Shelton, a descendent of Captain Richard King of the King Ranch in South Texas, named the property Comanche Trace when he purchased it from Carl Meek in 1978. Shelton and his family built the headquarters atop the highest point of their Kerrville Ranch. Mr. Shelton’s love for horses and his respect for the Comanche Indians as great horsemen led to the name that became Shelton’s horse ranch. At one time, the ranch had over 600 Quarter Horses, a Veterinary Clinic

and Breeding Facility.

Mr. Shelton was involved in many business ventures and owned property around the country, but our current 24,000 square foot clubhouse nestled on one of the highest points in Kerr County, served as his corporate headquarters. Mr. Shelton held elegant and extravagant parties and hosted guests from all over the world here at Comanche Trace.

The elegance and charm of Comanche Trace was recognized and brought back to life by the Kemmerer Family after the property was purchased in 1998. The Kemmerer family is a very well known, respected, and established family-Kemmerer Wyoming is named after them. The family owns and operates other unique developments such as the CM Ranch, listed with National Register of Historic places, one of the two oldest working dude ranches in Wyoming, and the Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, just to name a few. Texas Lions Camp, where kids can be kids

Founded in 1949, Texas Lions Camp has enriched the lives of over 73,000 children with physical disabilities and other medical conditions throughout its 69 year history. Texas Lions Camp provides parents, without charge, an opportunity for their child to enjoy a camping experience they would not otherwise have. Kids are allowed to just be kids, forgetting the condition that fills their days and making memories to last a lifetime.

In 2018, Texas Lions Camp served 1,506 campers over 9 weeks of lifechanging 1 week long camping experiences. Children between the ages of 7-16 with physical disabilities, children between ages 8-15 with Type-1 Diabetes, and children between the ages of 12-16 with Down

syndrome are able to attend because of the generosity of donors. Children participate in over 20 different all accessible activities adapted for them, from riding horses to sports, arts and crafts to fishing and pedal boating, and swimming to an adventure course complete with climbing walls and a zip-line.

At Recreation and Athletics, Soccer was the game for the day and counselors worked with campers to make the game fun. A young girl with hand crutches moved to the ball and kicked the ball to him, and he paused.

His balance was shaky, but as another camper approached, he kicked the ball and smiled.

Texas Lions Camp is filled with children who all have something in common: the world is built for everyone else, but Texas Lions Camp is a place built for kids with special abilities, just like them. One special young man, who suffered a stroke, struggled to make his body obey, even the simplest moves. But at Texas Lions Camp things were different. In the pool, with a beach-front entry, he was able to get in all by himself. He participated in music class and smiled when asked to play a drum solo.

“I feel like the old me,” he said.

“Playing sports and running were always big for me. Football was my favorite. But now, I guess I’m going to have to look into soccer.” His grin was contagious. He would never competitively play a sport like football again, but he realized that sports were not a thing of the past. He had a new future, a future with the support of friends and one worth getting excited about.

But this past summer, she fell in love with Camp Scene Investigation (CSI). The mock crimes around the campus gave her and her group opportunities to problem solve and work together to solve the crime. She loved every minute of it. She always feels included at Texas Lions Camp and things are adapted, and modified for her to participate.

Texas Lions Camp through the generosity of donors provides the possible when everyone thinks the impossible is all there is. When the world says you can’t, Texas Lions Camp says yes you can and we will help you. Children all have special abilities, even when their body tells a different story, their spirits all tell another.
