Artist Statement: ”Sulje ruumiilliset silmäsi, niin näet henkisillä silmilläsi sen kuvan minkä tulet tekemään. Sen jälkeen toteuta se minkä näit pimeässä, siten, että sillä on takautuva vaikutus niihin, jotka ovat ulkopuolella.” Tämä lainaus Caspar David Friedrichiltä, on aina miellyttänyt minua. Se kuvaa täydellisesti maalaamisen merkitystä. Sillä mitä on maalaaminen? Eikö se pohjimmiltaan ole sisäinen kuva ulkoisesta ilmiöstä? Kuitenkin minulle tuo lainaus ei ainoastaan määrittele maalauksen käsitystä, vaan samaan aikaan se kutsuu minut matkalle. Jokainen kuva jonka aloitan, on irtiotto tuntemattomaan maailmaan. Matkakuvauksen tulos on hahmon ilmestyminen, mikä voi kehittyä ainoastaan työskentelemällä.

Minulle teema ”Hiljaisuus” on ensisijaista työssäni. Teokseni käsittelevät unia keskeisenä aiheena. Tämä ei ole tullut yhtäkkiä, vaan kehittynyt hitaasti maalatessani ja piirtäessäni aina vaan enemmän kuvia. Mutta en näe sitä ainoastaan omissa teoksissani. Mielestäni yksikään hyvä taideteos ei tarvitse sanoja. Päinvastoin, ehkä taiteen tärkein tehtävä on ilmaista mitä ei voi ilmaista sanoin.

Artist Statement ”Close your bodily eye so you can see with your mind‘s eye your picture. Then promote what you have seen in the dark, that it has a retroactive effect on others from the outside” This quote from Caspar David Friedrich has always pleased me. I find it fully describes the whole essence of painting. For what is painting? Is not it essentially an inner image of the external phenomenon? For me, however, the quotation contains not only a definition of the painterly conception. At the same time it is an invitation for me to go on a journey. For me, every image I start is a departure into an unknown world. The result as a travel report of the emergence of a figure, which can only develop in the process of ”making”.

For me the theme ”silence”, is essentially in my work. My work is treating with dreams as central motive. This came not suddenly but while a was painting and drawing more and more images, slowly developed. But I see it also not only in my work. I think every good piece of art doesn’t need words. On the contrary - maybe one main purpose of art is expressing, what can’t be explained by words.

That’s why I don’t want to explain a lot my intention. These five following works are concerning about dreams. The titles should give just an inspiration to further thoughts, memories or reflections to the spectator.
