Rafael Aranda

Carme Pigem RCR Studio was founded in 1988 by Rafael Aranda, Carme Pigem and Ramon Vilalta. Their office is located in Olot, Spain. They work on multiple scales, including urban, landscape, architectural, and more. The architects are known for their minimalistic and poetic approach to architecture. They combine modernism with natural elements, especially with a project’s surroundings. They are associated with their use of cor-ten steel and concrete.

AL MURABA RESIDENCES THE PALM JUMEIRA, DUBAI

The Muraba Residence is a volumetric play of shifted linear bars, with z shaped plans. It is made up of 4 penthouses and 46 residences. The apartments are narrow, and look on to the sea.

The project is characterized mainly by its vertical wrinkled glass louvers that mimic the water ripples of the ocean.

The louvers are a climate response and control the privacy of the residents.

The glazing on the balconies, windows, railings, and other areas creates an inviting environment and blurs the boundaries between the exterior and the interior.

The facades are mainly composed of ALUCOBOND cladding material and glazing and the louvers.

This is a change from the architects’ usual style. They usually go for cor-ten steel and plane like structures, while the Muraba Residence is a play of volumetrics and has some use of planes as louvers and a white finish to the exterior.
