Resizing the Skeletal Structure

Zone C located in the AIT Building is a flexible layout classroom with the floor area of 87.478 m2.

Self-weight of the classroom is 119,626 kg and 1,309 kg per square meter. By changing the structural system from reinforced concrete column and beam structure into timber structure. Gypsum board as the partition walls. Overall, the self- weight/m2 is greatly reduced by 70.316%.

Jockey Club Postgraduate Hall No. 1 living unit with the floor area of 8.764 m2. Self-weight of the living unit is 15,172 kg and 1,434 kg per square meter. By changing the structural system from reinforced concrete column and beam structure into timber structure. Gypsum board as the partition walls. Overall, the self- weight/m2 is greatly reduced by 80.843%.

HIDE AND SEEK EXPLORING THE FUTURE LIBRARY

EXPERIENCE FROM PERVIOUS STUDIES

PROGRAMME: LIBRARY + COMPUTER LAB

As the idea and the programme of the scheme 1 is relatively stronger when responding to the lightweght issue. Therefore, I choosen scheme 1 to further develop. The selected site is located at the roof floor of the AIT building. This idea hide and seek is coming from the internal planning of the proposed library as there are many different types of space can be explored by the users and this library will be able to provide a whole new experience to them and redefining the future of the library. The main structure of the library is formed by timber log construction in the centre of the library. This make the external glass facade can be free from the columns which provide the feeling of transparent and light.

As we know that timber structure able to reduce large amount of loads by the pervious studies. So It introduced to be the main structure of the proposed library and other builidng components such as openings, foundation design of this library are also come from the experience that learnt form the pervious studies. We believe that the future of the library will combine with the electronic gadget such as tablets, notebooks and desktop as the popularity of the e-resources nowaday. Therefore, we aims to create different types of high quality space for the user to choose the most comfort place for them to enjoy reading, sharing good moments with their friends. At the same time not only using books, it can be using their own notebook or the tablets that provided by the library.
