FOREWARD
Architecture has always been in my blood from drawing the floor plans of my dream home when I was 6 to the fact that my great grandpa was an architect who taught at KU and worked at Black and Veatch. Going to KU and interning at Black and Veatch really makes it feel like I’m following in his footsteps. He was an artist and just like him, art is my outlet.
Art is how I express myself. I hope that through architecture, I will be able to help communities express themselves and connect to eachother in an eco-friendly, innovative, and meaningful way. I plan to spend my 5th year in the M.Arch program in Paris interning and absorbing the culture, art, and architecture so that I can have broader scope of how I look at the world and how I can help change it for the better.

2023 SUMMER INTERNSHIP
At Black and Veatch, I worked alongside architects in a hybrid environment. I helped with research, documentation, corrections, and concepting. I got the opportunity to go on site tours, be apart of a professional architecture environment, and see what client-firm interactions look like.
ODYSSEY
SPRING 2023

The first part of this project focused on choosing and working with the site which would act as a point of connection within campus. The second part of this project was to design a past room, present room, and future room all representing campus and it’s community and culture.

VIEWS

The site that I chose provided unique views from 2 of the biggest hotspots on campus: Allen Fieldhouse and the Underground off of Jayhawk Boulevard. The site is nestled in between 5 academic buildings, so I mapped out where people can glimpse the site so I could draw people up into the site and then further up onto the heart of campus.

The building going underground allowed for it to work with the site and not obstruct any views, so I decided that each room would have a roof that connects you to above in an individual way. The past room has a plated roof representing the fragments of memory and life that make up our past. A geometric line leads you from the past room to the future room which juts up above ground opening up to an flex space framing a beautiful view of the KU hill.

CUMULUS CITY

CITY
This project was for a multi-story shopping center meant to help start up businesses on Massachuesetts Street. We used abstract approaches to concepting including drawings made from stains and bead sculptures where the beads represent different spaces. These led to a very aesthetically pleasing final product.

This design focuses on organic shapes that stack are stacked in a way that creates a canyon like outdoor space. From Mass St, you can either go into the ravine or up a ramp that winds through the buildings and around a courtyard to the 2nd story. On the ground floor, you can find cafes and small restaurants along with a central pavilion. On the 2nd floor, you can go into one of the small, locally owned shops or you can follow the pathway to an outdoor flex space. If you go up the stairs, you’ll find offices, conference spaces, and a private courtyard for people to get their small business off the ground from.

This project focused on creating a journey using a kit of parts set by the professor. Using the square and rectangle pieces of wood and foamcore, I used an awning made up of parallel strips that allow sun through gaps winding to act as a guide up a set of stairs and platforms. At the end of this path, you get to see a beautiful framed view. This project was my introduction to digital model making, was a good physical model exercise, and required hand drawn floor plans, elevations, and sections.

LIGHT BOX
FALL 2021
This project was one of the first ones that I did in the school of architecture and focused on how the evolution of a shape can create different patterns, feelings, and textures using shadows and light. The shape I used was based on a section cut of a building. I then found different ways to manipulate that shape until I found one that I felt would play with light in an interesting way. After cutting out each piece in the evolution, I made them sit at a progressive angle using a continuous, folding piece of foam core.

WORKS

I like to push my boundaries and explore different mediums of art. I’ve ventured into photography, painting, drawing, ceramics, poetry, embroidery and many other forms of art. In the painting below shown in low light and direct light, I experimented with black paint on black canvas to create shadows and details that seem to disapear.
